I'm a catcher and when I have to block a ball, I turn and expose my back in fear of the ball. Hopefully I can change quickly!

Ive been scared of balls since elementary school. In gym class people would constantly say "dont be afraid of the ball" THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS YOU CANT JUST TELL ME TO NOT BE AFRAID.

I really support all of this, though I just got beamed twice in one of my “league” games. So pitching is a lot more slower, but now I’m in tournament, and in tournament pitching is way faster and way more pressure for kids like me. I heard you explain “don’t worry about getting hit when your up there”, Though that is kind of hard for me and I’m trying my best to get over it because I know I’m really making a big deal out of really nothing. So for me it’s hard and you would get that. So I really wanna say thanks and I really think it is gonna help.

This is my first year in kid pitch and I got over my fear but then one day at practice I got hit and it really hurt and I have been so scared ever since. I'm still am trying to get over my fear and thanks for the tips.

Great advice coach, but what about the youth that for some reason become afraid of the ball in the infield. My son was good in the 1st and 3rd bases and then he became afraid of the ball after getting hit real hard once. he is trying hard to be the same again, but it is tuff. What is your advice for him?

This is good help I haven’t played in years after being hit batting and warming up after a friend threw it and I didn’t have my glove in the right place and it almost broke my nose so I got scared and quit so I’m going to start practicing this and hopefully be able to play cause I just feel like I want to play this year (Edit) sorry this is so long

Hey coach Justin I hope this video helps me a lot and the reason I am scared of the ball is that I am 10 years old and in April I am turning 11 years old so I was put in a 11-12 league and the kids throw harder but I can catch those throws because they are easy but yesterday I had a scrimmage but when the kid threw that ball fast and hard I didn’t feel like I could swing the ball and he threw a ball that went coming to my body but since I felt so nervous that I did not have the motion to move my body sothe ball went threw my legs so I guess I was lucky but I never swung the but. also when I went to the box the first time the mound was kind of close to me so I guess that made me more nervous and the team we were playing was a select team that joined our league so that made me even more scared and th other kids crushed the ball hard even when out pitcher was throwing fast so it made me think That I was not ready for this

This is awesome and a lost art. Watching MLB players, a lot of them now don’t seem to know how to properly wear a pitch. I also teach to drop the bat and bring your arms in close to protect your hands and elbows which also flattens out your scapulas (if that makes sense) to make sure it doesn’t hit one of the points there.

I’ve been hit in the elbow twice and in the knee. But this video helped me to not be anxious

My lefty kid got hit 13 times in a season and wouldn’t play again. He was done with it unfortunately. Thankfully he’s killer at golf and wrestling.

i've played baseball for years. one time we had someone who once played for the American league come in a ball pen cant remember his name but he taught us how to read his body language as he pitched to help us understand if he was to pitch to hit us or not he never intentionally pitched to hit us and was throwing to us at a guess of 90-96 mph none of us hit one pitch. Basically showing us how not to be scared. he said that when the pitch is planned to hit you intentionally the pitcher will give you a warning sign such as a weird tap on his arm or specific part of your side; all would like he's just preparing for a normal pitch. The only reason to fear getting hit is to pay attention to how long a pitcher has been on mound. the longer they're pitching the higher a chance that they may accidentally throw it too close inside. another reason is rivalry teams or certain elements in the game like many bad calls high frustrations and etc. At least this is what i learned.
