Great, quick, simple, informative video. Thanks for the tips. Very useful. I have a new bike that was in storage for about 20 years. I think the brake pads might be hard and dry from age and need replacing. I might try some of your cleaning and adjustment suggestions first, however.

We cleaned rims with isopropyl alcohol, then sanded the brake blocks to remove dirty glazed surface. Squeak now gone, thanks

Got a brand new bicycle and I'm a complete noob so I'm not sure what's going on. Not only there's a loud squeak when I hit the breaks, there's intense squeaking on both wheels when just pedaling normally, the wheels themselves squeak loudly on rotation. It's been doing that since my first test drive, been using it daily and after a week it's still present, if anything it's worse now than it was initially. My father insists on it being a "give the breaks time to adjust" thing but it quite literally has been getting worse as I said. I use it to go to work which is a 30 minute ride, so I've already spent like close to 8 hours on top this bike, surely it would have been fixed by now. I paid almost 800€ for this bike and it sounds like a damn rusty playground swing, any suggestions? (Have disk brakes, don't know if that helps)

No need of any alcohol, use a clean dry cloth and wipe the rim with pressure where the brake pad contacts. It worked all the time for me. Wipe it so much that it's smooth enough.

I've been rubbing isopropyl alcohol on the rim like a mad man and purchase new pad also adjusting it still making noises. I don't know what's wrong with it

Very good video thank you. But what if the bike is brand new? My son’s bike was bought new from the bike shop by his grandparents when they visited and it has squeaked since day one! It’s been driving me mental and I should probably have taken it back and made them fix it but if a bike has sat still for a long time, can it still wear the pads ie rubber fatigue?
