If your baby is younger that 2 years old the crib is the best and safest place to sleep in.
If your LO is 2 - 2.5 years old, see if they can climb out of the crib.
If your 2 year old can NOT climb out then definitely have them sleep in the crib. A crib can get you 6 -12 months of peaceful sleep.
How to Stop Co-sleeping & Transition Your Baby to a Crib
The Gradual Approach
Step 1: Sleep with a little distance between you and your baby (for a few nights).
Scoot 1-2 feet away from your LO for 1-2 nights.
Step 2: Put baby's crib next to your bed (or travel crib).
Get baby used to sleeping in the crib (without realising it).
Place baby in the crib already asleep.
Aim for a few hours in the crib each night. That's a win.
For night wakings: Help baby back to sleep, then place them in the crib again. Celebrate ANY amount of time in the crib. You can also move the crib away from your bed.
Step 3: Begin sleep training
Work on getting your baby accepting to fall asleep on their own at bedtime in the crib & resettle each time they wake up at night.
A sleep trained baby (5 months old & older):
- Goes into the crib happily.
- Falls asleep independently.
- Resettles each time they wake at night.
Quick approach to stop co-sleeping
Begin sleep training on the first night.
Quick approach works for:
- LO's who don't accept gradual approach.
- Active, mobile babies.
- Exhausted parents.

It took us a week of crying and sleepless nights for our then 14 months baby to get her to sleep in her crib from co-sleeping. In the first two days she would cry to literally every sound we make. We would go to her room and try to soothe her back to sleeping but then it would make things worse. She would scream at her top voice. It was scary tbh. On the third day we went cold(sorry for all positive reinforcement people 😞 )We decided this because we live in a foreign country so all she got is a working father and her mother. It was becoming difficult for both of us. Her mother was depressed and always tired. After a week she started to get used to it. In the first two months she would wake up twice at around 12am and 4am to breastfeed. Then we cut the 12am feed. One month later she started sleeping through the night. Fast forward 6 months later she is a sleeping champion from 9pm to 8am. And a nap of 2 to 3 hrs during the day. All I wanna say is it takes a lot of effort and persistence to get them to learn. We definitely felt guilty at some point but it had to be done. We failed many times but it was worth keeping trying. Now we would put her in the crib and she would play and speak her gibberish language to sleep. And sometimes she will wake up in the morning minding her own business waitng for us to take her.

Good advice! My 6 month old sleeps in our bed and it's becoming hard on my body holding the same position all night. I have the pack n play next to the bed and when she's asleep I put her in there. The first night she slept a few hours, the second night 1 hour, the 3rd night 5 minutes, the 4th night instantly awake yelling her head off. Now she's back in the bed. My bed is really tall so he fell pretty far. I was totally terrified and feel so guilty that I let it happen. 💔 It's so dangerous for them and it could've been much worse that the red spot on top of his sweet little head. 🥺 I feel like such a terrible Mom. 😭 I'm doing whatever it takes to get them in a crib and making sure they're completely safe from this point on. Do you recommend still doing contact naps with the quick method? I don't want him to think I'm just casting him away lmao but I did start putting him in his crib all night two days ago (he is 21 weeks) and the first night he did decently well but last night was horrible. He will sleep in the crib but only for short bursts, I breastfeed so I can't tell if he really wants to eat or if he's just pretending he wants to so he can be in my arms. It's already emotionally hard on me because I enjoy bedsharing but the more he begins to move the less safe it will be for him and I am beginning to have body aches from sleeping in the cosleeping position.

Would you consider this the best route to try when baby is also exclusively breastfed (no bottles)? He'll be 1 in February (8 months now) and his dad and I are going to be going away for 4 days shortly after his birthday so I need to get him both weaned AND used to his bed. He already does well with a floor bed (because he falls asleep against me and then I move away) but it's hit or miss if I lay him in his pack n' play. Sometimes he wakes up, sometimes not, sometimes he sleeps for 2 hours, most times half hour... is there another video that might help me more? Or would this be the first thing I try??

So, I currently nanny a six month old baby. She can’t crawl yet, but she rolls over and I think she can kind of scotch just a bit. I have tried putting her in the crib after she has fallen asleep in my arms, and, I have also tried putting her in the crib when she’s just falling asleep. I think I made some progress today. She managed to keep her eyes closed for a few seconds without crying versus on Friday when I tried to put her in the crib and she was crying nonstop. I will often times read to her when she is fussy while she’s in the crib to teach her that being in the crib is not a bad place. She often times gets more calm but she doesn’t fall asleep. Whenever me or the parents tried to put her in the crib she fights and fights and fights and cries. should I maybe just let her cry five or 10 minutes before I pick her up, and come and give her those reassurances, or, should I use the quick method? I watched your video, And, I am wondering if I should try the gradual approaches for the quick one. Thanks!

The great news is that your LO is the perfect age to fall asleep independently. My daughter (she is our first) is almost 7 months and is trained to sleep on her boppy in our bed. She falls asleep drinking her bottle then we lay her flat after about a half an hour after because she has reflux. We are trying to get her into the crib but we find her getting her legs and arms through the bars of her crib screaming shortly after moving her. I am wondering if we should move her once she is asleep rather than placing her in the crib awake. Is feeding to sleep a bad habit to have?
@Babysleepmadesimple
@Babysleepmadesimple Год назад
It can help her reflux AND her ability to sleep in the crib if you start teaching her to fall asleep without your help. You can go slowly and take several days or a few weeks to slowly wean her off feeding to sleep and get her used to falling asleep in the crib. You can feed her early in her bedtime routine then read books, sing songs etc so her milk has time to digest while she's upright. Getting legs and hands stuck in crib railings is normal but usually it's a short phase (less than 2 weeks. The more she gets comfortable moving around her crib and getting into different positions herself, the better she'll sleep in the crib. My 1 year old baby daughter is refusing to sleep in her crib, only on her mom's shoulder, all night and whenever we try to put her in the crib it is nightmare, she starts screaming and crying full mode non stop! The problem occured that she got used to sleep on her mom's shoulder it is because we have twins and my wife was so tired during the sleepless nights that she didn't have the force to go out of the bed to put her in the crib ! Please help !! We are desperate. Any advice is highly welcomed.

Can you sleep train a 3 month old by putting them down drowsy but awake?
@Babysleepmadesimple
@Babysleepmadesimple 6 месяцев назад
Hello! You can definitely work on drowsy, but awake! Babies are developmentally ready to learn how to fall asleep independently at 5 months old, but you can certainly work on drowsy at this age. Just don't stress if your LO struggles here and there and needs some extra support until he/she is older!

My son is 9 months and formula fed. We have been co sleeping since day 1 & it has gotten to the point my husband and I agree we need to figure out how to get our son to sleep in his crib. His crib is in a separate room. My son just learned how to stand and likes to nose dive, the last few times we let him play in the crib, he’s hit his head every time. I need to find good crib bumpers. He only sleeps if he cuddles me(he sleeps on his side and holds either my ear or neck to sleep most nights, while being rocked to sleep). We lay down 9:30pm/10pm and wake up 6:30am. He used to sleep through the night but now he wakes up around 2-3am screaming bloody most nights or the better nights crawling around, giggling, watching tv and won’t go back to sleep. I try to get him to go back to sleep but most nights wants a second feeding. I don’t understand how I’m supposed to get my son to go to sleep with the quick method approach and what to do if he wakes up. Am I supposed to let him cry to sleep every night and leave him in there all night??? And he won’t sleep on his back, only his side….. when I’ve tried to put him down while sleeping, he always wakes up… please help….

Hello! I would try putting your LO in a sleep sack. Sleep sacks can help prevent your LO from climbing out. Also, make sure your LO's crib is on the lowest setting and that there aren't any pillows or blankets in there that your LO could be using to climb out. The great news is that your toddler is the perfect age to learn how to fall asleep independently and sleep peacefully all night long! I would definitely recommend checking out our Big Kid program. It is a gentle and comprehensive online course designed to help you teach your child independent sleep habits. The program includes a child personality assessment so you can discover how your kiddo’s unique personality affects their ability to sleep well and adapt to new routines. The truth is that having a toddler who sleeps great is a game changer for the entire family! Definitely click on the link below to learn all about our DIY package and Support package. I think, maybe this feed your baby (newborn) every 2-3 hours is wrong. I think best way would be, during the day feed your baby whenever they cry and don’t feed them during the night from very first days That way they sleep at night without wailing up, and then feed them all day long except night I think that’s how humans lived for millennium - because feeding the newborn few times at night to feed them is teaching them to wake up at night. I don’t think my family knew about 2-3 hours feeding rule for newborns and I and my siblings never had problems, and we practiced co sleeping (I don’t know what’s really better , maybe this new rule is better or maybe not idk)

Hello Samira, Thank you so much for reaching out to us! It can be SO exhausting when our LO's need our support to fall back asleep all night long. I am a mom of two and I can remember these sleepless nights, especially with nursing! Babies naturally have shorter sleep cycles and wake up often. It is normal and natural for us to help support them to fall back asleep when they are little. They need our help! The only challenge is that if your baby gets your support to fall asleep at bedtime (rocking, patting, feeding), then she needs that support to fall back asleep for every middle of the night waking. This leads to restless nights for both babies and parents! But don't worry! I have some AMAZING news! Your LO is the perfect age to learn how to fall asleep independently. This is truly the key to longer stretches of sleep every night. If your baby falls asleep on her own at bedtime, then she will self-soothe during the night without parental support! Yay for peaceful evenings for the entire family (get out the popcorn and turn on Netflix)! I promise that your baby CAN learn to sleep well! We have helped thousands of families achieve peaceful evenings and our team is here to help you too in our 21 Days to Peace & Quiet program.
