If I'm consistent with this, will I eventually be able to have a life? or do I need to be ready with a treat on guard at all times, and crate the dog for life?
When I first got the dog she probably would have killed the cat. She had never seen a cat before. Did all the stuff you talked about. They get along great now. The dog treats the cat like her own.
it’s been a few weeks since we adopted our cat. Our dog wants to chase him but the cat wants to be friends. We’ve got them to the point where they can both sit quietly next to each other. We have the added bonus of having a cat that has turned out to be very obedient and trainable too, so that’s a plus. The cat is more likely to harm the dog than the other way around so they can be together but only under close supervision. We hope one day that they can truly be friends and actually play and snuggle together. Both get lots of exercise which has helped enormously. Thank you for a lovely video and great advice.
Same problem ...The dog was first ...she loves cats...but then I got one ...she enjoys to chase her ..🤕.(the dog 2 pounds) kitten same size as her ... The kitten could do her some harm ...but she wants to be the dogs BF ...My dog wants nothing to do with her ...weird ...geuss my dog likes cats as long as they dont live with us 😳😬
My dog and cat have become good friends. Dog chases cat... Cat chases dog. They wear each other out and curl up together to go to sleep. As far as I can see, there is no problem.
I have 2 cats and 1 dog. Gatsby will be 2 years old this month. I have always told friends and family that have new puppies or dogs that a tired dog is a good dog. I have to admit to you that I'm not in agreement with your type of training. You should also NEVER EVER use your dog's name in a disciplinary manor. For example never call your dog by name to get it to come to you so you can put your dog in a "timeout". I have never agreed with that either. My dogs have always been exceptionally well behaved, no unnecessary barking, no destroying my things, furniture shoes etc, no accidents in the house, basically they have never had bad behavior. I have also not disciplined my dogs. I use 100% positive reward training. Every time my dogs do something I like I tell them they are good by vocal, clapping and patting. I make sure to purchase a lot of various kinds of toys that they will chew. Dogs don't just like to chew "bones", they like to chew fabric, nylon or just about anything. I purchase various PUPPY chew items when they puppies and Adult when they grow up. I keep their toy box in our living room where they most often play. Variety keeps them busy. When they are puppies if they get a hold of something that isn't a toy I very quickly and quietly replace it with their toy. When they chew their toy I praise like crazy. If the puppy goes to get a different toy, I praise like crazy! Praise is so important and dogs love to get positive reinforcement. When you let them know what they are doing right, they will do it over and over to get that attention. They learn that makes you happy and they want to please us. If a puppy has an accident I say nothing and I go clean it with white full strength vinegar. I leave the vinegar a bit wet to deter the pup from that spot because they will avoid the smell. When the pup does go per outside or on the pre pad I praise like crazy!! So excited to give love, clapping and pats that they will want to repeat that reaction. Again never say anything about accidents. ZERO reaction. Clean and go. Now the big thing with all of the training is the most important part, you have to watch puppies like a hawk and your life depends on it. You have to be present and aware of them constantly because 5 minutes later to react is no use because they have no idea what you are talking about. You have to praise immediately and even during is better!!! If you can't be present during the first few weeks of coming home then be 100% present when you get home from work. Puppies grow up quickly and so does any bad behavior. Encourage good behavior and reward immediately. For the first 6 months at least it's important to keep a strict routine so they learn what you want. Such as bedtime, morning tinkle time, breakfast, walk etc. Try to walk your puppy at least 15-30 minutes minimum every morning to get their bowls working and especially if they are home alone all day. I would suggest 30-45 minutes minutes of brisk walk with a 15 minute smell walk. Dogs LOVE to smell and walk and it tires them out. The after dinner walk 7pm is a good time to walk so it gets bowls working, pee themselves out and get any extra energy out for a tired pup while you relax. I walk my dogs a minimum of 1 hour from 6:45 to 7:45+ every night ANF they go to the door knowing it's time. They have a built in timer I think! LOL The cats LOVE our tired out evening pup and then he's more likely to let them lay next to him for their nightly ear cleaning. 😣😜😄😃🤣😂 I always get asked how I get my pups so extremely well behaved and I know it's because I reward them with love and attention PLUS I also talk to my pets. For example my Gatsby was looking at me for an evening treat so I thought I would put a bit of his natural peanut butter in his tiny Kong. I looked all over and couldn't find the Kong. So I sat down on the couch and pretended my pup was new to speaking English and I basically played charades with him. About 2 minutes of the charades for his Kong he suddenly looked at me like a light bulb went off and he bolted to my bedroom. He came running back like a demon with his Kong!! He figured out what I wanted!!! I was truly shocked. I then decided to use that more often and now he seems to want to play that game. He is very smart but he understands a lot more. I just recently used charades to describe vacuuming that he hates! Then when he took a leaf (not poisonous) to rip it up, I told him I would have to vacuum and he IMMEDIATELY spit the leaf out of his mouth. He has now spit out potential messes (ie Kleenex) every time I say I will have to vacuum! It's really funny but it has actually stopped any paper tearing up. Dogs can learn words so teach your dog words that you want them to know. Hope this helps!
We have the opposite challenge. Our old Burmese boy chases our 3 year old Standard Schnauzer. Luka (the dog) is very cautious around our spikey orange Burmese. Jasper is a meany and likes to chase poor Luka.

2 years ago we got a new dog and he taught our dog to chase and attack cats and then they got ahold of my sisters cat luna and played tug of war with her, i still cry about it to this dsy snd i wish i was nicer to him.
My dog gives no warning before he goes after the cats and he doesn't just chase them. He is aggressive. If he were a larger breed, I'm pretty sure my cat would dead.
Yea I have a 2yr. Jack/Chi I just adopted and 7 outdoor cats. The few times she is alone in the yard and finds one hiding, she is aggressive and growls. I can stop her when I yell, and I have tried the "good girl" and a treat for good behavior......when I'm there......it's when I'm not right there. Now I'm trying the every time she even looks at a cat I get an aggressive tone, beat the floor with my flip flop so she understand without a doubt, they are off limits. If she chased one........she goes in the crate. Seems to be working, I don't think she was making the connection with leave the cats alone or I will go ballistic on your furry behind. My dog gets to chase two balls with a Chuck It every day twice a day and gets walked. I am also training her to the treadmill.......so no excessive energy there. She is just a pig headed gonna do what I want personality.......I don't think so. Good luck with yours:) Just in case.......I don't EVER hit my animals.......
How about the cat who won't leave the dog alone? We just brought inside a barn cat that lost its friend to a coyote and didn't want it alone outside anymore. The cat has ok manners, using the litter box and we put caps on it's nails to keep the scratching down. Just wants to beat up the 15 lb dog and the cat is also 15 lbs.
Yes that is great but I have a 4 year old pit bull and when he plays with other big dogs he always bits at the other dogs back legs and neck so how do I stop him from doing that.
I just got a Pit Bull - Terrier mix and we have three cats. He’s only 3 months old and is never too harsh on the cats when he does pin them down but he just chases them all day every day and it really stresses the kitties out. Gonna give these tricks a shot. Thank you for posting!
Just got a 7 week old lab husky mix and she’s chasing the cat. Normal The cat has a lot of patience but doesn’t like when even humans approach her quickly (only I can), she’s a rescue. She’s not hissing or trying to constantly attack the dog or anything it’s not bad. I just have to teach the dog to be calm around the cat
Hello! I was looking for this video exactly because i just got a cat(4 months old) very lucky to have him get out and feel confident around my bedroom in 3 days, hes a very brave boy. But we have a female mix retriever/rottweiler of 2 years, when she was little she didn't care about the cats or anything fluffy and small until during a time we walked she saw 3 dogs chasing a cat, which is when she started to learn to do that, she's incredibly strong so its not easy to stop her, she heavy breathes constantly and even starts to drool, I've tried getting her attention previously but it simply doesn't work. Honestly I'm starting to think of getting her a trainer because for 2 years she did learn a lot of things we tried but my father always believed that if she was trained she wouldn't be the same and she "wouldn't be free" but i think thats the wrong ideal, dogs are free and even in their past they trained each other with their packs for boundaries and tricks.
I just got a 6 month old staffordshire bull terrier boy. I already have a 2 year OLd cat home, and my dog actually really Wanna kill me cat, not only chase or bark, but kill my cat! How Can i learn my dog to only Play with my cat? Pls help
Kedi Krasniqi I know this is late, but I don’t think there is a way to stop your dog at this point. I’m not an expert, but you should have checked if your dog was good with cats before you got him. I would recommend a dog trainer or an experienced vet.

Dr. Jones I've had on and off problems with my lab doing this and she's grown up with the cats.. they use to get along fine together.. then all of sudden of she(my lab) saw one of them she would go after them.. now one cat will stand her ground the other one runs and hides.. now my 3rd cat she doesn't chase at all and will even kiss the cat and walk away or just go about her day lol.. what is it with her just going after the 2 other cats tho like they're dinner? I usually use the stern voice and call her and tell her no be nice to them.. haven't tried the treat trick.. but why just the 2 is what I've been trying to figure out when they use to get along fine before..
I have tryed this but it doesn't work for me.they will stop for a minute and go back to it . and I have l lightly spanked them and tryed time out and it seems to be getting worrise.please help.if u can .I tried treat s to.and I have been dealing with is sents shilo dimilo was 11/2 year old and now he's 9 year's old.could it be beacuse of his head drama and inbreed issues.is there anything I can do to help.

I have a dog that I’m pet sitting and I have 2 cats one named Mila and one named Charlie and she barks at then and chases them around the apartment. What I do to stop her is to get treats and put close to her mouth or her nose and she’ll stop for a tiny bit.
I had 3 dogs, 1 cat and 1 kitten. They were just fine until one day, the 3 dogs suddenly fought each other. I didnt know why. Since that day, my dogs began chasing my cats and bite them. My dogs are large sized. I am afraid that one day my dog will kill my cats. Once one of my cat ran away and came back after 1.5weeks. I was sick of them. What should I do?
That's my big issue, my dog is a rottie and we lived on a farm until now so he won't stop chasing. It's so easy for people to say just introduce them this way or that way but when they're the size of a wolf I just don't think it's that easy lol

The thing is mine is a puppy and nothing i mean nothing works on him he does not care not even a BIT!!!!!!! he will bite and chase the cat no matter what
We had that happening at our house and it got worse as my dog older so I kept a water bottle and sprayed the cat and then he would stop. But I always had to keep an eye on the cat. Now we have a new puppy and the opposite is happening! Karma I guess.

I have a jack russell and we brought home a kitten, things have improved and she just wants to play, but you can see the terrier jumping out when the cat moves. Hopefully your suggestions work :/
Be very careful with jack Russell’s, those dogs were bred to chase and hunt down and kill small animals. I’m sure your dog will be fine with your kitten with enough introducing and stuff but just keep an eye on it never leave them alone. Anything could happen
M 123 thankfully we managed to introduce them gradually and now my cat chases the dog 😂 it’s actually funny, they love being around each other, even though the dog is jealous. We don’t keep them together when we leave the house, I always make sure the cat is in her room and locked because I want to avoid any accident
Just adopted a 3 year old from the animal welfare. She was there for a while and the first day she didn’t show any interest in the cat. The second day the cat went after the dog now the dog chases her. I don’t want to bring the dog back to the welfare society but this is crazy.
My cats get zoomies in the house then my youngeat dog get zoomies. Chase my cats. But my cat starts it. Few minutes later they chill on the couch or bed. I do not like my dog chasing. I get her distracted. Or let her outside to run about. Them i get zoomies with my cats. No one been hurt in all this zoomies. I just do not want to give my pup the wrong ideal and start playing to hard. Even tho i have maincoon cats. I also have shelf step to get up on top shelf , that is all around the livingroom if they need to get away. I will redirect my pups attention. So if i have company, they wont think i have a crazy zoomie dog and cat house. 😊 haa haa the funny farm. 😅❤
I'm astonished that someone who gets so excited just because his dog actually comes to him when asked can think he's qualified to teach dog training to others. Isn't recall one of the first, and simplist, things we teach our dogs, for their own safety?
Sounds like Tula may be doing it to get your attention as it isn't all the time. :) I agree back to basic training. I'd put a long line on Tula for recall training and as soon as she turns towards you say YES and she'll soon understand Marker training. good luck :)
Zenith Star yeah.. I found a stray cat in my neighborhood and my dog chases her a lot! And I’m taking care of the cat because the cat got dumped. She was confirmed to not have a desiease or fleas on her fur. So I’m gonna make him my pet
