How to STOP losing your wheel simulators. A quick video on how I took two versions of wheel simulators to minimize the chance of them flying off on the road.The best of both versions combined. You can of course walk away understanding how to install or remove wheel simulators of both types after watching this. Hope it's helpful. And if so. Check out the rest of the videos on the channel. And so inclined feel free to subscribe. It's FREE.
Some parts I acquired from RVWheel.com The wheel simulators and lug extensions. Lock nuts I purchased separately by taking one of the stud extenders with me to the hardware store to match it.
I used RVWheel.com. Sales@RVWheel.com 800-215-8007 For wheel simulators and stud extenders and Lug nuts. They were very helpful making sure I had the correct parts for my vehicle year, make and model.
But most parts are readily available on Amazon and many other sources.

Yah prior to this motorhome Ive had many over the years and never lost any. But I haven't really seen any revolutionary design developments that differ much from brand to brand. Snap ring or lugs. I think people loose them for all sorts of reasons. Some times something as simple as not being put on properly. The ones Ive lost in recent years were on long road trips to and or from Alaska to the lower 48 on I believe stretches of road riddled with construction. And Im sure there were other contributing factors. It was always the same wheel. Never an issue with the others. Good info/endorsement for people to explore though. Always good to have options.

Wow. Awesome tip. I’m literally on another RV trip and get out at the gas station and notice another one gone. Uggggg. Ordering the stuff now. These simulators aren’t cheap as you know.

Haha! Its like I made the video just for you huh? Yah they aren't cheap. But I can say since doing this I haven't lost one again as of yet. Glad it was of help. Hope it works out for you as well as it did for me.

Great video and info!! I have a question for you. Where can we buy the valve stem extenders that will work for these Dodge trucks? The ones that you don’t have to worry about any problems have any with? Thank you sir.

Hmm. I haven't personally been in the market but of course my search would likely lead me to Amazon. I can't imagine they would be too hard to find. Tire shop? Start with the google machine and I would imagine many options will pop up. Hope that's of some help. Thanks for the feed back.

Hey I'm new to the motorhome world. And I have a 2005 Fleetwood Tioga jamboree and of course I lost a hub simulator. I have a couple questions if you don't mind. Where's the best place to get the stud extenders and size? Also my front caps are different are they also prone to fly off? Lastly brilliant way to solve the problem 😊.

@ericinalaska7648 5 месяцев назад
Hey there. Stud extenders are readily available from many sources. Amazon of course as well as take your pick of auto stores. I believe they come in a few lengths. So You'd have to figure what you need there. Im really not sure how many choices or versions there are regarding the threads. Im confident that a quick conversation with someone that sells them could clear that up pretty quick. Over the years Ive personally found the rears to be more prone to fly off. I have yet to loose a front one. But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen or that others wouldn't say there experience has been the opposite of mine. Hope that helps.

I got these at RVWheel.com but that's just because they were what I needed to replace what I had and the price was right. Service was good as well. How ever. There are many sources. Amazon has quite a selection as well.

I wonder if a dab of silicone on the metal flare gippers would hold them in place as well

Hasn't been a prob so far but I would like if they had more purchase on the studs. I had considered putting longer studs in but have not as of yet.

You'd probably be able to buy some stainless nut covers to slip over those nylocks... Just measure the size of the nut. I'm certain that somebody makes them😁

Can you put in the comments, or reply to mine, with part numbers for extenders, lock nuts etc you used? Can’t quite see what your putting on after the lug extenders. Thanks.
@ericinalaska7648
@ericinalaska7648 3 года назад
To clarify I put on the lug extenders. Then the wheel simulator. Then a flat washer to cover more surface. Then the locknut. Instead of a lug nut. But a lug nut may be an option for you. When I ordered the wheel simulators. I explained to the guy I spoke with at RVWheel.com what I was doing and he included the appropriate stud extenders and lugs with my order. He was very helpful in making sure what vehicle I had as well as wheels and size etc to make sure I had the correct parts. Based on the model I have, He knew what I needed. When I removed the pho-lugs and put the wheel simulator on. The pattern of the pho-lug holes and the pattern of the studs on mine were not as well matched as I would have liked. Yours may be if you have a different vehicle, size wheel or rim and or different brand of simulator. So instead of using the lug nuts provided. Because the lugs/extenders and the holes were slightly off center to each other. I used a washer, to cover more surface. And a lock nut. I took one of the stud extenders with me to the hardware store to match a lock nut to it. I just took a look to see if my receipt indicated there size but nope. Just quantity and price. But It may not be compatible with your set up regardless. Are you just looking to modify what you have or doing it all from new again? If your just modifying the simulators you have. Im confident you can just call (800-215-8007)and order the lug extenders and lugs from RVWheel.com. Or you can inquire at Sales@RVWheel.com I see many options on Amazon as well but I couldn't tell you which you'd need for yours specifically. I would hate to send anybody down the wrong path suggesting part numbers that worked for my setup only to have them find out its not right for theres. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can clarify anything else.

Thanks for the info. I have the push-ons and keep losing them. Uggg Makes sense what you did with regards of the washer for more surface area, and it not lining up hence the grinding some off. Thanks for the reply!!

@@projectdad6561 By the way. When putting things away after our conversation the other day. I looked at the one simulator I have that's not a press on.(Designed as and sold as and held on by 2 lug nuts only.) And the two holes are elongated or oval. So for whatever that's worth.

Wheel weight screws up alignment.
@ericinalaska7648
@ericinalaska7648 Год назад
Do you mean that the balancing weight(s) are in the way of aligning the trim ring? Or are you expressing concern about the balancing of the tire from the weight of the hardware?
@Silverxxx450

@@ericinalaska7648 they affect the alignment of the hub cap tho sit flat against wheel.
@ericinalaska7648

@@Silverxxx450 Hmmm. Not sure how to address that other than possibly tire rotation that would work out so the weights aren't an issue. Or perhaps different wheel simulators. I haven't seen that scenario personally.

The steel wheel does not look so great but I would rather just take the cabs off and ride with the steel wheels because paying over $100 for each cab every time you lose one is ridiculous

Certainly an option. Last long trip I did before doing this. I did just that. Took the rears off so I wouldn't loose them. Since doing this Ive kept them on and I haven't lost one yet. So far so good. If I were to loose any again Id likely go without as well unless or until selling.

Im not worried about losing it Im worried about taking it off.... the nuts just spin and spin and wont break loose so I cant change the tire.!!!!
@ericinalaska7648
@ericinalaska7648 3 года назад
Did you get it? If not. Im wondering. Do you have a snap ring or is yours held on by two nuts. Which is typical. Im thinking you have a snap ring set up? If so You just need to pry that off around the edges until it comes off. The wheel simulator, then the real lugs are underneath. The nuts on the wheel simulator are cosmetic only. If Im understanding you correctly. If your talking about your actual lug nuts spinning, not the fake ones on the chrome cosmetic wheel simulator. I apologize. And don't mean to insult. But from your message I can only speculate. If you haven't got it already. Good luck.
