Fixed a long standing leak on my outside tap following your instruction to tighten the gland nut. Thought it needed a new washer until i watched your video. Sorted. Many thanks 👍

The big adjustable spanners are ok but most people will find the job easier if they just use an ordinary spanner or bike spanner, of the correct size. (Most people don’t have those big things).

Yes fair point, I could have used my small one. Thanks for the feedback 👍

As the 'T' bar was loose, why not take that and the gland nut off before packing?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 2 месяца назад
Potentially you could for easier access. But mine as most are, has a bit of a rusty screw holding it in which will more than likely round off the moment you try to loosen it. So valid point. Thanks for watching 👍

When I started plumbing in 1964 we would use traditional hemp and paste. It cured a multitude of leaks.

Would this work with a stopcock. Would you need to turn it off at the mains in the street.
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 2 месяца назад
Yes it would work for a stop cock, exactly the same principle. No need to turn water off but you can if you feel more comfortable with it off. Hope that helps, best of luck 👍

A question - my outside tap does not allow water - bills are paid - to come out at all? Any help welcomed. Thanks.

Dont ever do this for your nan because she'll never be able to use the tap 😂 Just switch it for a new one.... If you own 2 adjustable spanners I expect you also own a pair of pipe grips and swapping the tap is cheap and just ad easy.

Are you speaking from experience?! 😂 Yes, I take your point about changing the tap but a roll of ptfe tape is a few pence vs 10 to 15quid for a tap. The other issue is what tap you have. My tap came pre soldered to the pipe that comes out directly behind so you'd have to remove the whole lot which is hard work if a kitchen unit is covering it. Obviously if you have an accessible compression fitting then yes, it's an easy job to replace. Thanks for the feedback 👍

Yep, but it was a super strong (so he claims) 16 year old son that complained that it was too stiff 😂😂 Most taps these days have a separate wall plate or spigot but I had forgotten that the old ones were sometimes one whole piece. Either way, it was a good video and definitely got a thumbs up mate 👍👍👍👍

Thank you if it keeps dripping what is the problem when you close the tap
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 2 месяца назад
If it drips from the tap outlet (not the handle as in the video) then it's likely you need a new washer inside the tap. Hope that helps. Best of luck.
