Do something you lazy fuck.
You're welcome.

I discovered this video a year ago. Now I'm excercising almost every morning, keep my kitchen clean, finish my third novel and enjoy feeling healthier every day. It's ridiculous how a single video made me discover many other interesting videos and authors. Often I just tell myself "Don't mind the outcome, just do something!". It is indeed magic. Thank you, Mark! 🤣

Hi Mark, I just wanna say your philosophy deserves to be in every high school syllabus around the world. Imagine depressed and distracted kids, start acknowledging their pain and start doing something since an early stage of life. Most parents and teachers do not share such ideas unfortunately and probably due to their cliche expectations. And your ideas would surely fill such a gap in education.

The best part about the "Do Something principle" is for myself, it's a reminder at the end of the day that I did something. Maybe there's a "Did Something principle" out there! Mark, I just finished reading The Subtle Art and it absolutely changed my life. It helps that I've been to Cape Point and your whole description of that part of South Africa, where the ocean meets the sky, that endlessness on all sides of you, it was some of the best writing that I've ever had the privilege of reading. Your book has absolutely changed my life. After finishing my masters in commercial law and entering the workforce I've had two years of absolute hopeless depression, and nothing has helped me (including dozens of hours of therapy) as much as your book has. I've got a channel here on another name and I hope we can have a conversation some time. All the best dude, you're the f#cking greatest

What do you do when you try to do something the worse it seems to get and the worse you seem to feel? When doing the thing you know you need to do just makes it feel larger and harder to do and you feel like you're spiraling into more and more anxiety because you still need to pay bills and go to/find work while making time to socialize so you don't end up having no friends in your 40s? When you feel less and less competent the more you try and do the thing and realize you are more and more out of your depth but no one seems to know how to help you because these things come easy to them? That they CAN just do it and it gets easier like a downhill snowball, but yours is uphill where the more you push the bigger it gets and it gets harder and harder to push as well as more dangerous cause if you slip you are now at risk of being carried downhill by this huge snowball that again gets bigger before you inevitably crash. What do you do when you can get started and maybe even feel okay for a few minutes to an hour but it just feels worse the more you do it? But you also feel guilty not doing it, and this pattern has been going on for decades and you feel like an incompetent nothing because again everyone else can just do the thing and it's easy but you can't so you feel like a perpetual lazy idiot. How do you stop that?

Momentum is 1000 times more important than motivation. Everyone who wants something badly is motivated. The hard part is getting started. This is why the Japanese use the one minute rule. Do something for one minute. It’s very small and easy and it gets you started. That leads to momentum if you do a minute a few days in a row.

As ever Mark is slowly helping me sort my nonsense out. The blog post that goes with this is really good too and more indepth. I recommend people read that and also if you're procrastinator you may enjoy a TED talk by Tim Urban 'Inside The Mind Of A Master Procrastinator' TL:DW There are actually two types of procrastinating. One is where you have a deadline where the chronically disorganised can half-ass an attempt to rush the job when it's nearly time to be done and get away with it some of the time. The other, is for things that are more open ended and general, where there are no deadlines, and that's where the blog post is especially helpful and more psychological :)
