Have you ever thought about your shopping habits? do you have an addiction that you are willing to face? there's no shame in realizing our truth. It only makes us better.
I don't want to point fingers but I think social media as played a large role in developing unhealthy shopping habit, from targetted ads to seeing others post their outfit of the day.
I have a shopping addiction. Luxury items to be specific. Last week I got laid off and my addiction has since been cured. No more shopping. I even started selling some items and returning those I just received. It’s time for me to stop the hemorrhaging and save as much as I possibly can.
I feelike society doesnt take shopping addiction seriously. I have a very bad spending problem and it truly ruins my life I really want to get better because I rely so much on material objects to make me happy. This video really helped me thank you I'm hoping I can get better and start saving!
Shopping addiction is a real thing. Have you tried tuning into some podcasts to help you when you have the urge to spend? They might have great tips that you could use to start your healing journey
@rowan orre thank you so much for your kind advice, I found that cleaning helps me when I'm feeling impulsive to buy things and I now deleted apps like afterpay that lead me to spend a lot of money.
Hello Angela. I feel for you. I was there. I ruin my life. I used shopping to cover my depression and anxiety (I am dealing with that as well. Professional helping me) 1. I cut all my credit cards 2. I block my savings account 3. I stopped watching shopping channels 4. Unsubscribe 5. Only use cash. 6. YOU must stick to your budget 7. Find some new hobby 8. Find a good people who support you. 9. Don't use website buy now pay later. Very dangerous
@@jeffishighok I'm so glad you're in a better place. Yes I use shopping as a way to forget my reality and mental health issues luckily I've been getting better thanks to therpay the tips you listed are great and I'll try them out. I wish you luck on your journey 🙏
What you said resonates with me. Trying to fill an internal whole with purchases. Thankfully as I have matured this has improved massively. I recognised time to contemplate and think deeper is important but now I see it can help avoid unnecessary expenditure. Thanks
I started to realise the extend of my compulsive shopping problem today.. and I am going to talk to my therapist about it. Until now I was much too ashamed of myself. But after seeing your video I have the courage suddenly.. maybe because you‘re talking so open and honest about it.. i don’t know. Thank you anyway!!!
You’re most welcome. Talking to your therapist about it is the best decision you could make for yourself. I did too. Years of therapy, and today I read self help books. 😀 I can see the difference in me and my husband can definitely see it too. Good luck dear.
I can relate to this so bad!! Even if i don't find anything to buy for myself,I buy for my family, cousins even friends. It's like I always try to find any kind of excuse just to shop.
It’s a sickness alright. Whether or not for ourselves or for others. The money is best invested in something that will help it grow or saved for a rainy day. Last time it was Covid, next time it could be another GFC.
Quite a thoughtful. I spend on art supplies to explore and learn on daily basis .but yes sometimes I spend quite a lot but then I use those art supplies to make more art work .
Perhaps set a goal on how much you should spend a week on art supplies. And when you run out, try using anything else you can on making art. Or have a goal to finish absolutely every art supply you have even all the colours till you buy anymore. Won’t it be interesting to make an art from just one or two colours? You might just force yourself to think out of the box and make a masterpiece that you could sell.
Thank you this is so helpful I have an Amazon addiction I buy something and when it comes buy something else I like coffee and will buy everything for it
I love coffee too. It’s ok to put stuff in your cart, but before you pay look at your cart and think about how you manage currently without any of those things? If you’re managing perfectly then the cart can be emptied. That’s online window shopping. :)
@@SeetalMD Thank you that is a really good way thinking. I have deleted most of my shopping apps. And I have to change my way of thinking. I Will think I need it because I can't make that flavor of coffee.
I feel bad for my husband. He tries to understand me but I just can’t control my shopping addiction and it’s affecting our relationship and our future (finances). There is an impulse. The addiction is making me depress and think of just ending my lif3. I’m overwhelmed.
I hope you are recovering/recovered. Just like any addiction, it takes time to overcome. I'm currently in the process of overcoming my sugar/shopping addiction and what has helped me a ton was to just go cold turkey. It will be SUPER uncomfortable the first few days/weeks, but afterwards, it'll feel amazing. I DO NOT regret giving up shopping, but I ALWAYS regret buying unnecessary things.
I got sick this last semester of college. This sem is also really hard for me because I'm stuck at home because of covid for 2 years already, and I have to do my thesis and practicum at the same time. It just got all really heavy that I developed a habit of online shopping. I already bought 11 bags in just a month probably, and I don't want this to continue anymore. I let my mom keep half the money im getting from my scholarship, but the other half I already depleted. :( it makes me so sad. The troublesome part is, i dont even have a job. As ive said, the money im getting is from my scholarship. Now that im graduating, im scared that ill take this bad habit with me when i start working. I want to be better, but i dont know of any way to boost my happy hormones. I may have other issues. A doctor told me to visit a psych because i may have mental problems. Im not going because i dont wanna spend money on it. It's so ironic that i spend too much on material things, but not on my wellness. :(
Have you tried physical activity such as walking, gym, indoor swimming or swimming lessons? It all helps physically and mentally!!! The best of luck to you!, you can do it!!
It’s so easy to fall into retail therapy. That joy of hitting buy and the anticipation of waiting for the arrival of the new purchase. It’s the sense of new ness that we thrive for. You most definitely will benefit from psychologist visits albeit the cost. However, perhaps but audiobooks or self help books to help with your spending. I’ve read “spenditute” it’s a very good book on spending habits. Otherwise go to the self help section and see which book speaks to you. Read, read and read your heart out. I hope that helps ‘mon cheri’ and wishing you loads of love.
Oh wow. 2 months made a difference. I just graduated last august. I went back to the university to undergo training, and it helped me get my mind off online shopping AND let me see how hard it is to actually save and earn money. Now, I’m back home as I am trying to find a job. I do my best not to open any online shopping apps. I do not want to get into that dark hole again. Thank you for your comments! And to people still struggling, there’s hope for you. Reading my previous comment, it brought me back to such a hopeless time where I just lost control of my spending. I guess a new environment, hobby or activity can really break such bad habits. I pray you will all have the courage to try something new and healthy. Also, I haven’t gone to my psych yet. But it will be my priority once I get a job. It really is important to get help.
I wonder if it's possible for NEVER shopping to be tied to an underlying personal issue. I struggled financially 25 years ago when I was raising my daughter. I had to avoid spending anything I considered "frivolous". I've never gotten back into the habit of shopping for clothes, and other things out of guilt. Why can't I buy something nice for myself? Can you please do a video on that? :-D
That is so interesting. You now associate shopping with frivolous shopping. Yes! this is definitely a good topic to talk about. I have plenty of advice under my sleeve. cant wait. thanks for watching. xoxo.
Thank you for this video! I can totally relate. I get Fomo, I make purchases “by proxy” and don’t take time to think before swiping the cards. I feel stuck. I would love resources to help myself clean up my act. Thank you!
I would suggest seek therapy by a psychologist so you can understand why you do it. But if you like to read a book on it here are two of my favourite: spenditute and happy Money by Ken Honda
Can you please share resources with me? I’m in crushing debt due to my shopping addiction. I don’t even love the things I bought as I quickly lose interest in them. It’s a hunger that is never satisfied. I have a strong meditation practice but forget to buy mindfully. I get such an endorphin rush from shopping. I seriously need help. I’m ready and willing to embrace mindful minimalism.
I’m so truly happy that you’re ready to take the next step and thank you for being so forthcoming. Please email me at seetalwalia@gmail.com and state the country and state you live in so I can help you out. But if you’re comfortable staying it in this reply message then do so instead and I will link some resources for you. I will also link some online resources that you can engage with that will be helpful. In the meantime, read the book “spenditute” to understand why you spend.
Such great insights there on ddigging deeper beyond our shopping habits and urges! I believe that we need to be aligned inside out and these bad habits will go away. Awesome content Seetal! New sub here :)
Tip : Uninstall online shopping apps when not needed. Cook your own food....instead of ordering online food, Go to parks ,play,do yoga or meditation for keeping mind calm and peaceful.
I have this I just feel so relieved when I get to buy things and the problem is I buy things that I do use so I don't know how to control it and end it
You need to replace buying with doing something else. Perhaps reading, exercise, cooking or some hobby. Even watching TV. Do it when you have the urge to spend.
It’s the newness that you like. How about reading about the fashion industry footprint on the earth? Visit the bookstore instead and see if anything sparks you there. Read lots of self motivation or self help books. You will love them.
Me too. I feel that clothes only cute when I never use it before Idc whether it's thrifted or ofc new ones. I guess it's the underlying issues of me can't pursue my dream doing drama and characters are great cause it's fake and they have lots of costume. It's sad 😢😢
I have wasted a lot of money on watches and perfumes especially not to mention shoes for hiking for running for trail running for office for formal office for casual office blah blah. But yes I think getting into fragrances is never worth it. For watches I think only Seiko is worth there price. Rest all is overpriced hype.
I buy clothes that I regret buying after. I am not able to decide what to wear I bought two jeans that I feel tight and comfortable. My legs are fat so jeans I m not comfortable with
Then don’t buy jeans. Jeans are meant to feel comfortable. Maybe you’re not looking at the right shape of jeans. Or maybe just avoid jeans altogether. Have you tried trousers? If you’re filled with clothes you regret buying, sell them off. Then hire a stylist to help you pick out clothes that flatter you. That’s a much better investment because once you understand what looks good on you and more importantly makes you feel good inside and out, then it’s worth shopping.
Forget about SHOPPING ..i am ADDICTED to........ THEATERaholic..LOL.... i go to the theaters to watch movies 4× on Weekly Basis..just because i don't have BIG SCREEN TV..& also its a escape from my depression..... I NEED HELP.....
Have you tried some credible resources? Whatever deep feelings you have will take lots of time to uncover and work through. But it’s totally worth it. Make an appointment with a psychiatrist first and foremost. It’s worth it. Let me know if you need some resources S
