I am so excited to try this at the range. I have been having a huge block/slice issue with driver, with a path about 6-8 in-to-out, and could not for the life of me figure out why. I always thought it was because I didn't bump my hips enough, but this absolutely reveals my huge flaw. Can't wait to try it out and actually hit the driver better!

This video helped me so much. I’ve been playing golf for 3 years or so and my hip sway has really been my major problem for the past 8 months or so. I’ve watched countless videos, and this is the first one I’ve found that fixed my hip sway. Thanks!

Awesome video! I'm really excited. I now realize how my slide/bump has been the source of my block/push. You give a great example for me to model.

It's fun to watch you work! As I've grown older and stiffer, I have a tendency to start a downswing with my shoulders or back; i.e. I move my center mass to the left as a continuation of "the move" to the left. I play little now due to medical problems, but in my batting cage, slowing the whole swing gives me time to lead with my left knee, as I see you do. This prevents the sway (for me), and continuing the hip turn to the left is a natural extension of the torque applied to the left knee. Peter S K . Peter Kennedy MD

Great video. I also noticed that when you were demonstrating the proper way to turn not slide, that you also had a lot more anterior pelvis rotation than the ‘slide’. I tried for years but was was never able to fix this until I finally understood this move.

I'm not getting any younger, but for about 5 years now I have been struggling bad with the club bottoming out about 1-3 inches behind where I set up. Moving the ball back in my stance, the contact, the flight is not what I'm looking for and it is not consistent. Ideally I just need to bottom out about 1- 3 inches further forward then where I set up rather than the other way around. I'm actually waiting for the range to open this spring to work on firing my lower body first in the down swing as I'm pretty sure my hands and arms over the years are starting to win the race to the ball.

I'm currently working on this as I have an early trail heel raise in early DS. I struggle slightly with the feel of rotating trail foot clockwise in transition. I noticed this weekend JT has an early heel raise too. Is there a checkpoint i should be using? Eg degrees of open hips at impact?

I'm pretty sure that my hip slide has led to some real left hip pain (hip flexors...but also abductors I think). I know I need to clear the left hip, but struggle to get the feeling, so looking forward to see if this slow motion practice approach can change my bad habits. As others have pointed out...GG Swing Tips is obsessed by this move...but I just can't perfect it!

Great video! Quick question. With the driver your left hip will be on the inside of left foot on contact, but with an iron shouldn't the left hip be straight(over) with the left foot for compression? Thanks

most of his movement towards the target happens in the back-swing as the club gets to the top, which is only natural. as the club moves towards the target, the momentum will pull a player towards the target slightly. but he does continue to move towards the target on the way down, and he does cast in the hitting area, as you say. but if you look at is his right knee, you will see that it is twisted off to the right at the top. he then starts his downswing by rotating his right hip, in attempt re-align his right knee, and this throws his swing out of kilter. we are all taught to maintain the position of the right knee in the back-swing, but in the second half of the back-swing the knee disappears from our peripheral vision and we often think that the knee is in position, when it isn't. i was taught to keep my right knee in position and i did believe that what i was taught was correct. the hogan book, also, tells us maintain the position of our right leg. but hogan didn't do that. post 1948 his right knee twisted off to the right in the takeaway, but then re-aligned itself in the second half of his back-swing. he never told anyone how he did this but he did give a slight clue in modern fundamentals. and another clue came in his, 1948 letter where stated that groin in the right side should feel tight at the top. i realiz(s)e that hogan, also, talked about actively turning the left hip on the way down, as others have, but hogan didn't actively turn his left hip on the way down. and his left hip didn't actually start to turn until he got into the hitting area. hogan's left foot didn't spin off to the left in the hitting area, like others do. he maintained the position of his left foot thru the ball by learning how to make his left hip turn passively. and how he did this is easily worked out. i can't believe that no-one has.

basically... u want your hips to move back, and turn, then forward and turn, while your upper body maintains the same straight up and down stance, correct? im not sure how else i can say it, but to me it makes sense like that... but i guess i kinda already do that anyways.. theres so much to know about golf swings, its so hard to become scratch... but i guess i gotta do what i have to right?

I would agree with that for the most part. The upper body has a bit of a tilt, but other than that, I think your idea is perfect. In a nutshell, here is my blueprint to scratch. 1. Develope solid fundamentals for the 5 pieces of the TSG system. 2. Get as much Swing speed as you can. 3. Work like crazy on the short game. In that order.

Hi Doug, your body won't open up enough typically if you're sliding which will usually cause an early release (flip). It's also a little more rough on the lower back. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

You have to slow down your transition to give yourself time to break the knees and squat. Otherwise it's a slide move or quick spin-out. That's the tough part.

So instead of hitting pushed shots out to the right, now you've got him coming over the top and hitting a slice cuz he's all hip turn and no weight shift forward... I'll take the pushed shots to the right tyvm!

Look at slow mo video of every great ball striker-they all have a lateral “move” to the left early in the downswing, NOT a squat, even the instructor didnt “squat” to start his downswing
