To answer your question, as much as I love puppy training videos, I would also love to see some rehab dogs as well, those who have the potential to be a good dog, but have had a bad history. Many times those are the dogs that suffer the most when it comes to finding a new loving home. Example, if they don't play well with other dogs at all, if they have mood swings, etc.

Yes! This happened so often when we got our dachshund-Jack Russell puppy one year ago. Our 3 yr old doodle (who is very similar to Inertia in temperament) was so good with him, but often ended up being my helpmate. One year on both are best friends and the puppy biting is a thing of the distant past. Now helping with introduction to strangers coming into our house is the lesson of the day. COVID meant no real visits for the year and now the puppy thinks this is the way it should stay.

Having just gone through this stage it’s rather satisfying to know it’s normal for a puppy to do this and they do come out of it. My puppy is now 6 months and rarely bites anymore thank goodness

Fun fact! It's super-easy to make your own snuffle mat out of old clothes, no sewing involved. Take a big rectangle of denim or other sturdy cloth, and poke a bunch of holes in it in a grid pattern. Then cut up a bunch of pieces of softer cloth (tee shirts are great, but bonus points if you can get various textures) into strips. Tie a knot in the middle of each and poke the loose ends through a hole in the denim. Tie another knot, so you have knots on either side of the denim and they don't fall out. Repeat until the mat is covered. And voila! Recycled-fabric snuffle mat. Machine washable, though I recommend line drying.

When our puppy was presented with a treat Matt she grabbed a corner and gave it a quick shake, all the treats went flying and she gobbled them up quick. Whole ordeal lasted about 15 seconds. 🤣

Perfect timing.. my 9 week old Shih Tzu x Maltese mix doesn't even have all her puppy teeth yet and she just wants to chew on EVERYTHING. I've been doing the whole play with me instead, but the sit to reward with the toy is a great next step. Thank you!!

@@SamanthaTwist yes my small beef is with time constraints they always have dogs pretty trained already. Even the biting withBiscuit I didn’t really learn what to do. I do distraction but sometimes he just needs a time out.

Inertia: "Dad! Please, please, please play with me!?!?!?!". Inertia is so wonderful. Being a good dog is so hard. And, I like that you pointed out that sometimes you need to train your puppy to be calm around other dogs. When we got one of our little dogs, he was fearful of other dogs (especially larger ones) and I focused so much on getting him to like other dogs that I made the mistake of not teaching him to ignore other dogs! Now he sees a dog and he wants to run up an play (which isn't appropriate to just run up to any old dog with an invitation to play--especially if you weigh 8 pounds). So now I'm having to go back and fix my mistake (we're working on it!!). So don't make my mistake. Teaching your dog to get along with other dogs is vitally important. But it's just as important to teach them that they can be calm around other dogs and not insist on visiting every dog they see.

Hi Zak, I recently got my first puppy ever! Her name is Toffee, and she’s a 13 week old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. She has… SO much energy, and she was so nippy! I followed the instructions in this video for about a WEEK and already she rarely nips at anyone in the house now, if ever. My family is amazed with how much I’ve been able to train her, and every time, I tell them I’m just using your information and your book to guide me. I had no knowledge of how to train a puppy prior to this, and frankly, I didn’t have any up until the day I got her. I have gotten her to sit, lay down, roll over, stay, and play fetch, all using your videos and book, and toffee is incredibly agile- something I never expected from a corgi! Thank you so much for making me see the bright side to puppy’s occasional misbehaviors. Toffee is so expressive and amazing, and you’re helping me harness that into something beautiful.

I rescued a 2 month old puppy and have been working with her on the basics of puppy training. She's only my second dog ever but this is my 1st time training a puppy! After 2 months I didn't feel like we made any progress and I understand training comes slow and steady not fast. But I broke down and now in addition to working with me she also works with a dog trainer 3 days a week. Your videos are a blessing finally kind and informative puppy training videos! Here's praying I can be a good teacher for my puppy 🙏🐾💝

Stumbled across your channel today, must say that it’s very engaging content that you have. This video is so SO helpful! I was starting to believe my ~2/2,5 month mix bred puppy is being aggresive, cuz he can start biting my hands (really hard), pant legs and growling at me out of nowhere, but I just started to treat that behaviour like asking for some play time and just after the first time it's been a lot better! It's been only a week that we have this little sharky boi and I still learn about him and how to properly deal with his tantrums and day-to-day behaviour

I learned to call that kind of training “bite inhibition”. I had a problem with a former dog who was taught not to bite the old fashioned way and when he had a bad moment he hurt the nearest dog. I wasn’t going to make that mistake again. I did a good job on Jasper though it took ages as he got stronger and I had to keep starting again but it didn’t work with Marzieh because the first time I squeaked as she was biting me, she never bit me again. Inertia knows what to do about puppies. She is brilliant!

Good reminder advice. 3mth border collie. Previous dogs didn't mouth like this. Bought the book. Been following the advice. Bit of relief hearing others mention shark if I'm honest. Distract distract but when those eyes do their thing I know I've missed the previous signals. Tired pup. Fine line between exercise for age/growth spurt. No pup training her - small rural town in New Zealand,plus not had last parvo jab. Thanks Zak, Bree and others in same boat. (boat - shark lol)

I needed this. We have a 16 week old Turkish Boz Shepherd with the teeth and power of a TRex! I’ve really been discouraged. She weighs over 50 lbs. I’ve been training her with your videos but still so much work to do! I’m going to look into the puppy classes again and see if there are some available.

Wow love seeing how big inertia is now and how tamed she is compared to when you first got her. I got a dog when you got inertia. But at the time I had to give her away because I couldn’t look after her. But I’m looking and getting a dog again soon because my personal situation has changed and it’s just so cool to see how well trained inertia is only a few years down the line :)!

I personally find that the fastest, most effective method is to wait until they bite and then just absolutely SCREAM in agony dramatically and flail and then run out of the room and leave them isolated for 15-30 minutes. It's not the most charismatic method but they quickly associate the constant nipping with not getting the attention they want. Puppies learn surprisingly fast with negative stimuli for things that positive reinforcement can't address.

Thank you for helping regain my confidence in my (so far pretty successful!) training of a lovely 8 month ish pitbull puppy we recently rescued from a horrible situation. She never got a chance to be a puppy-puppy and we are trying to make up for it! Our pup only nips and paws hard at us when excited, and varies from gentle to rough very randomly. She is also reactive and has some anxiety I believe. These videos have been so helpful, words cannot express it enough! You guys are amazing.

We have a 1 year old Brittany who was such a biter! As far as biting humans, we were pretty successful at getting her to use a softer mouth and as she got older did the loud "ouch" which made her stop biting humans almost completely. She has always been a aggressive, chewer however she always preferred her toys to furniture etc. She can chew through every single toy we've tried. Even the black Kongs are no match. We've found getting a rope toy every once in a while to let her shred is a special treat but otherwise stick to bones and antlers.

I feel so good (and happy 😜) that this happens to THE Zak George as well 😂😂 I’ve a beagle who has chewed up the house because he would want constant attention AFTER spending hours playing and running around the garden already (he’s a sweetheart now but his puphood was too energetic)! A puppy is exhausting!! (Ultimately 1 year in we got a puppy for my dog and that worked wonders 😂😂😂)

Zak, Bree loving this series as I have all the rest. I watch them over and over and I don’t even have a dog, yet! I saw the cute frisbee Zak had with Biscuits. Where did you find it?

Biscuits reminds me of a friends Parson Russel terrier with her high energy and sweet face. I'm throwing terrier in the guess what breed lots.

My Beagle pup had teeth like razors. She used to bite my hands, and my feet as I walked. Glad to say she outgrew this stage and is never destructive.

I have a mixed Golden Retriever and Spitz and I'm teaching him leave it. He's also teething and I can totally relate to Zak's injuries with Biscuits😂 this series helps me with my patience. My dog thinks I'm Father Christmas who brings him food all the time😩😂

My corgi/aussie/heeler mix but my daughter's hand today as a result of a resource guarding and her trying to take a sock out of his mouth. He is 15 months old and after 3 trainers, I'm not sure what to do anymore. He's a great dog 95% of the time and we adore him, but I need to figure out this particular issue. Zak, I've been watching you since we got him at 8 weeks old. I appreciate your videos and look forward to your next one, about resource guarding.

Amazing series! Followed your advice for the 1st time 7yrs ago when I got my 1st dog. Told myself I will never get a puppy again, and here I am, adopted another pup. I do have a question, how do you control new puppy around your older dog, ie not stealing their toys, food, or jumping all over requesting attention on them when you are petting or paying attention to an older dog? Thank you!

I followed your advice for my dog when she was a pup. My dog is 2 years old now and biting is 100% under control. I like the soft bite method. Sometimes I still let her bite while playing but it’s never too much. I found it more useful teaching her how to bite, rather than teaching her not to bite.

Thank you this is so reassuring Same! I have a new Pomeranian pup I’m trying to train but my videos aren’t quite as successful as Zak’s even if I watch & memorize them 🙃😂 I appreciate though that in this one he is dealing with a lot of the same issues I am

Omg!!! THANK YOU! Although I tried already everything, it comes at ease that my dog is not the only one that does this. He is also an adopted dog that is now 4 months old and he looks similar to Biscuits. What you have on your hand is 1% of how my hands look like. He just simply ignores any toy or bone or everything, sometimes he just wants to bite human flesh…. It is a struggle that comes with a lot of pain and frustration 😖 At least this video encourages me to keep going with the method or adjust it a little.
