Many soft plastic baits come equipped with appendages that perform best when stored in original clamshell packaging - swimbaits or flapping trailers come to mind. Clamshells reduce warping/kinking caused by memory, a common problem when baits are packed together loose in a bag or tackle tray.
Ryan DeChaine shares his method for storing bulky clamshell packs in boat compartments. Just about any bag can work, but DeChaine prefers soft-sided tackle bags that expand in a rectangular shape. This bag style conforms to available space, compresses or expands based on contents, and keeps baits organized by size, shape and color. It also removes any guesswork when it comes time to re-order shortages.

So true. Taking SB's out of their original packaging can mess up tail action. Placing them together with other SBs in a Plano box can also lead to running colors, esp. in summertime. Yuck. I like the long, compact bag idea. Thanks.

This bag is designed to accordion down if there's not a lot of product, or expand in size to accommodate a bunch of product. Being soft-sided, it also conforms to limited or irregular packing space better than a hard-sided storage solution. Just my preferred way of storing clampacks but I'm sure it's not for everyone or every situation. - Ryan

Ya thats an ez way if u have a boat, but 4 most of us that dont have a boat im still looking 4 a method. I currently keep my swimbaits in the clam shell packaging in my fishing backpack. I guess i just have to cut back on how many i can carry 4 now. Thx 4 the video anyways.

Hi Mike, this is still a good way to organize plastics as a bank or kayak anglers. Keeps plastics in your backpack together and separated from other contents.

I use the kvd 20 and 40 just for storage and have 14 in total. They are the best I've found. I have 1 for each type of plastic I use. Try 1 if you are skeptical. Great for storage in the house. I don't even own a boat.

I’m partial to a 1 gallon ziplock and duct tape.

For sure. Ziplocks work great for most plastics but can ruin the action on plastics engineered to provide the bulk of the fish-triggering qualities -- namely ultra-realistic tail actions, straight tracking and body roll.

Let me explain a little better, sorry for the misunderstanding. I tape the entire outside of the ziplock so that it is essentially a duct tape bag. Then I use a magic marker to write what is inside. When it comes to my plastic Swimbaits I leave them inside their original packaging, like you recommend, I then place the entire package inside the duct tape zip lock. The duct tape zip lock bags can take a lot of abuse, this is how we water proofed all of our note pads and Ranger hand books in Ranger school.
