Vinyl records are fragile and should be stored and handled properly. In this video I explain how to properly store your own vinyl records.
A few main points:
Make sure your vinyl records are not stored in direct sun light or close to heat sources.
Store your LPs vertically and never stack them up in a pile.
Find furniture with dividers which will allow you to have less records per section.
Make sure to not overfill your shelves to the point where you can't easily pull out your record. Also make sure your shelves are not half full so the records don't fall on the side.

I've had my records flat in boxes for 30 years while life happened i recently started playing them and almost every single one is perfectly fine

They probably were stored at cooler temperatures. I think the jury is out on that one too.

I've been collecting LPs for over 50 years and plastic sleeves though they protect against ringwear won't necessarily protect against age spots or yellowish/orangey stains appearing. Any dampness or heat will affect LP covers whether in plastic sleeves or not. So rooms for LP storage must be kept cool or warm but not hot. And kept far away from any moisture. Sometimes plastic sleeves also cause problems with fostering eventual stains. I heard of one man who placed over a hundred thousand dollars worth of LPs in plastic sleeves and they all ended up with mould.

Right on man. Great video. You covered everything someone needs to know who's just getting into vinyl storage. I'm one of those who keeps his inner sleeve open on the side because it keeps me from manipulating the outer sleeve everytime I play a record and helps to preserve it over time. I use resealable outer sleeves to keep dust out. It's also a habit I picked up in my DJ'ing days. Anyhow, thanks again and keep posting. You have what looks like a solid collection.

Hey ....... That Bush LP in your video is one of the most underrated albums of the early '70s. Too bad they only lasted a year & half. Cheers!

Dude. *Kallax* are great as you say - I've been using them for almost 20 years *BUT* you are using them *WRONG* . That looks to be a 4x2 Kallax and while they can be laid on their side as you're doing here, you *CANNOT* use them this way for vinyl storage long term unless you brace them. The horizontal shelves in this configuration are supported by *NOTHING* except four small pieces of wooden dowel. They *WILL* break and you will have a small disaster in your shelves. I've even seen a local record store that had an entire unit collapse (not just a shelf or two). It's a matter of a time. You really have to add either some bracing to the back (which is the real reason many do this like you mentioned but it is *not* for dust prevention - it is for support), or adding L-brackets beneath each shelf to add strength where the dowel pieces attach. If you're using it normally, it isn't necessary because each horizontal shelf piece is braced by the lateral portions taking the weight. Sorry to rant a bit - I just hate to see a collection like this in danger, and especially when recommending the same to new collectors. It's only a matter of time before they fail if used this way. Cheers and love! Brace that shelf! (or turn it upright!)

Get rid of your inner paper sleeves. They scratch/scuff your vinyl.

I use a old blue bin/crate that fits my records and it holds about 100 records

Nice suggestions. I like that IKEA shelf but your outer sleeves look very cloudy.

I have 30 LPS in a box and the one in the backs cover started to curve slightly, is putting something slightly heavy to store them totally vertically like a bluetooth speaker in behind them as support a good solution?

Basic fail picking up your records by the edge! What's the point storing them well if you can't handle more carefully. There is no need to touch the vinyl, i have many records with quiet intro's that have been ruined like this. Whatever crud is on your hands ends up on the lead in grooves and start of the track. If you only touch the labels you can avoid this

Was gonna disagree with you, but then I saw him pinch the record from the edge instead of fingers on the label and thumb touching the very edge to balance. Yeah, don't pinch the edge! And wash your hands before touching them. Every time.
