I will give my best advice to developing board artists. Remember boarding IS filmmaking. So you want to be very well versed in the skills and art of filmmaking. To this end you must study all the live action films you can. (study is not watching) Everybody watches but that doesn't make them film makers. Learn the shots. Sketch out sequences from your favorite films. Look at the compositions. Pay attention to the edits and transitions- how and when they happen. Pay attention to the character blocking and what the camera is doing. What is the pacing of the shots and editing? What is the art director doing in the sequence? How are the actors performing to the camera? What lens is being used in your guestimation? How is lighting being used? By learning all of this stuff you develop a catalog of ideas in your head that you can quickly call upon when it's time to board your own sequence. Without good ideas it doesn't really matter what you draw.
@mesolithicman164
@mesolithicman164 2 года назад
Yes. That seems a very logical way to progress. Any thoughts on particular films and/or film makers to study?
@mesolithicman164
@mesolithicman164 2 года назад
@@MeelisMatt Thanks but that's a bit of a rubbish answer. Anyone with an ounce of Common Sense could come up with that. I thought you might say Citizen Kane or any Hitchcock movie. Analyse the action sequences of a Spielberg movie. Your initial comment suggested you had something approaching an in depth knowledge of film. To say, "just study films you like" seems a rather effortless response. But never mind.
@BearyK8
@BearyK8 2 года назад
@@mesolithicman164 It'll be different for everyone. My study ideas instantly go to things like Over the Garden Wall, Paprika, and Pan's Labyrinth. Yeah you can google "films with the best cinematography" but your favourite films are your favourite for a reason. Just think about films you love and watch them with the questions in mind. If you just do what you're told is best then it won't be something unique in my opinion.

It’s scary how well timed your videos are. When I was studying anatomy, boom here’s an anatomy lesson. When I’m trying to decide between Adobe and ToonBoom, boom a comparison video, and today in my art class we were trying to choose on what to cover next and I pitched story boarding... like? @felusthefine7700
@felusthefine7700 3 года назад
@@nottehpuglord Sure thing. Man, I can't believe this was half a year ago! School and stuff definitely keeps me busy as it is, but I do have an idea for a "sci-fi clash with medieval magic" kind of animation. I think I'll use what I've learned about storyboarding to complete the project in "episodes" completed and released over time and then maybe string them all together with a few bonus scenes that would make for smoother transitioning between the episodes when I go to combine them into a full-length movie kind of thing. I can't wait for summer break because that means I'll be able to dedicate much more time to this. I'll start small, and I aim to complete a proof-of-concept early in ths summer break. I just figured over time that completing this project in "episodes" would better keep the audience engaged as well as keep me from burnout over the long-term. In order to meet these goals, I'm making a physical checklist which I will keep with me. The lrogress I've made so far is not much, I will admit. I only have the concept idea. However, I am looking forward to working on this further and will keep myself from procrastinating any longer in order to get stuff done. Anyways, thank you for reading this! I know it was probably a lot, but know that I'm glad to see someone who is interested in this project because now I feel even more motivated to work towards it! Huge thanks to you! 😸👍

I'm tried make animation in Blender, but when I'm modeling scenes I'm realize that it will more huge than I'm expected. And it not a normal animation with dialogue, but music video with the song. I was stuck where should be next scene and how all thing would look like. I'm relize that I should make a plan, a storyboard. Of course I'm thinked that storyboard are all nice drawed, but I saw your examples that story board can be also just ramdon shapes. Now I'm helping with model with video game, but someday I will work on my storyboard once again.

Now 7 months later im 19 days into making my newest animation. I have made the storyboard the script, detailed scripts that describe the scenes. Rigged the characters to animate them and i think this is really the one. I post the progress to be able to look back on it : D

Great stuff- I'm taking an animation end to end course with the school of visual arts and we just did storyboarding! Really helpful to have a script as I found that helps limit the scene- without it I feel there is a danger to becoming overwhelmed. As you get closer and closer to an end product- effort increases for any big changes. Having a script and storyboard is a great framework to combat any "creep". Thanks for this so much!

I think it's best to have a raw script for the animation you want to make, THEN think and clarify what point you're trying to make (subdivide it into the scenes if it's a long animation), and now it's when you start writing the detailed screen script. That way, when writing, because you have the point you want to make in mind, you can twist a few details to further convey said point.
@Vicious-scribbles
