The problem remains: the high price, the accompanying tools (strop, water stones , pastes, etc !! including hard work), and finally with that you rarely get the perfect sharpness. The double-edged blades and safety razors is a blessing from God!

I guess it was a little easier for me beings I already had stones and understood how to sharpen, but I'm less than a month into straight razor shaving and aren't having any trouble. The first week was a little rough learning how to maneuver the razor. My very first edge I put on a $15 Gold Dollar shaved really well.

One other thing, knives are 100 times harder to sharpen than razors. You have to hold the angle with a knife, the spine doesn't do it for you.

geofatboy-I want to thank you for this channel. Two years ago, I had trouble wet shaving because I was carving myself up. Two years later I’m using a Muhle R41 on a daily basis with no cuts and a very close and comfortable shave. Thanks again!

I wanted to get this razor as I really love the look but for starting/being completely new to straight razors it´s too hard I guess A 5/8 would be easier or what would you suggest ?

Do you ever have problems from not stretching? Did you do any stropping before first use? I want to get a Dovo at some point, I’ve been using a razor I found at an antique store that I honed and stopped the crap out of. Sharper than all my other disposables now. 🤯 I can only imagine from a reputable company, with known steel, and.. new, I’m excited.

My grain is the total opposite of yours Geo. First pass I can visualise but not any subsequent passes

A barber would tell you to just follow your grain and comfort level. If your grain isn’t the same as his, just do yours. Then with subsequent passes as you get comfortable with your hair and skin you can worry about going diagonal with the grain, or across the grain, and IF your skin/hair combo can tolerate it against. Now imagine doing this on whoever walks in and asks for it. 🤣💈🤘
