In this video I'll show you how to strip paint from miniatures and models so that you can salvage them after a paint job gone wrong! Sorry about the amateur audio, I'm continuing to work on improving video quality.
If you read this, go give Pine-Sol a try. I've used it and it did WONDERFUL! I left the mini's (old lead ones back when adults and children were smart enough not to eat one and die...and I think a pewter-base one from GW) in the pure Pine-Sol over night and a bit. Probably 26 to 30 hours. I picked on mini up and the paint sort of just 'sloughed off'. A toothbrush scouring later and I had a 98% clean mini. Very impressive. :) I have heard others with similar experiences, even with Plastic or Resin mini's...although I'd be hesitant to leave a plastic on in for more than a day and a half...might be worth a test first.
I did this with 4500 points of badly painted Bretton's last year. They were my second army, from way back in 94. And all the spears made it a slow job. Worth it though.
Simple Green changed their formula a year or so ago. It is not near as effective as it once was. I use LA's Totally Awesome to strip minis. It is available at all the $ chain about here in the US. It is $3 US for 64oz. It will strip both metal and plastic.
It actually is as effective. You have to get the big, concentrated bottles. I use it to this day it works perfectly. That being said, I saw a comparison with LAs totally awesome and it looks like it works even quicker for less money.
Back when I built model cars, I used Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Put the model in a ziplock bag and spray the oven cleaner into the bag and seal. Let it soak 30 minutes to a couple of hours, longer if you still have issues. I've used it on metal and plastic, but not resin.
