Its weird because literally everything you did you can do at the top of the channel in the mixer with the gain, hpf mid and lpf, compressor on there...
Not necessarily, So what happens when your “source” sound is too loud (hot) or too low (soft) those processes you mention aren’t meant to adjust gain/volume for your source sound… Those processes are meant to do a specific job in their own respective systems
