I built my home in Mexico 35 years ago and after wetting my cement blocks I used the same air gun that used to spray a textured ceiling to spray stucco directly on the block . It’s been this long and my outside walls here in this area of Baja California Mexico is still in great condition.😊
These guys are good, I’ve been doing stucco since 1992 and now days no one wets the block first with is “very important” and yes it’s ok to use a go devil on block but not lath, and that’s exactly right, it’s all about moisture and layers not one shot, THE ROD is the only way to do smooth or float finishes and see how he finishes it side ways?! that is knowledge...Great job!!!
You said,"No Lath"..why do you say that? And when you say Lath, do you mean that metal mesh stuff that you attach to the wall and then stucco over? I want to someday build a house out of cement block then stucco/render over it. I thought that you use that mesh stuff so the stucco lasts longer?
@@PxssyGalore I'm not as experienced in stucco, but I do some and I'm a mason/bricklayer. You do not need galvanized mesh over concrete block. There's a natural, mechanical bond, a cementatious bond that occurs. Make sure the block is as clean and dust free as possible, and dampen it, but don't saturate it. Over wood? Yes, use a moisture barrier then attach the mesh and plaster coat it.
Oh plus all the names of the tools your using! Closeup of wall was excellent to see the consistency of the mix on the wall, what it should look like! 👍👍keep up the great work & videos! thank you
So Miguel wears a white shirt and after the job is done his shirt is still white... must be great to work with someone so competent. Good professional video too, thanks!
I am did same like this plaster when I am doing I feeling so much enjoying,, I will tell you for drying issue use a brush and throw some water on face plaster before shaping... Also sometimes I want to do plaster some kind of mans after making hammering on his face,, I wanted learn how to do decors from concrete then painting I like to amazing architect design,, I love this construction job,,
Great video! I have a couple of questions. 1. How did you nail the corner bead without blowing out the block? 2. I started to stucco a small courtyard cmu wall in my backyard. I put the whole 1/2” coat in one shot. A big chunk fell off the middle and I noticed a lot of sag on the bottom of the wall. Would you recommend two 1/4” passes to avoid this problem? Thanks for the great videos and your advice! 👍🏼
Is that like 2 parts sand to 1 part concrete? I'm in the midwest we get 100F in summer and - 10F in winter. looking for a mix that will handle the extremes. Thanks for the help.
I been a stucco mason on the east coast for over 20 years. California seems to be behind the curve just a tad. We use vinyl beads and Jmolds etc. Glad to see you guys using rods too. Atleast you guys arent hacking it up like that Kirk Giordano guy, that guy is the worst I've seen.
Wrong brother we use metal trim because we don't have humidity like you we use stainless steel next to the ocean but everywhere else we use regular trims and we have the plastic trims to some city codes ask for plastic trims some don't
Looks pretty good but would it be possible to use something more fine grained like how spackle is for drywalls? I'm guessing it will be much easier to work with and much finer finish. just a matter of using very fine sand?
I’m in Austin Texas and had someone do our foundation facing! Wish I had seen this video before we had someone work on it😫! We didn’t know any better so the people that worked on it made a disastrous job of it! They used different types of cement, so our facing has different shades of grey on it!
How do you do this on a 10ft tall wall that's 30ft long by yourself without it drying out or leaving a joint? Do the bottom all the way across first then jump up and do the top? Or jump up and down
Thinking of doing this for wall in my backyard, but it’s painted. Can this be applied over a painted wall or would I need to get the paint off first? Thanks!
How different yous do it compared to us in Ireland... we do a scud coat first at 2to 1 which is like a splashed on coat.. then scratch coat at 4 or 5 to 1.. then a finish coat at 4 or 5 to1... one coat you usually see every block through it
Have you ever had marble sand together with white cement, it's a miracle so beautifully white when it dries, you don't even need to paint it, we use it smooth or thrown rough, rough can be used when a wall is crooked and abnormal.
For a block wall you just need a base coat , or 2 passes to get a good thickness and hide those block joints, stucco or finish, color coat is Also cementious product but has more bonding additives, the finish they are going to do is a smooth, as fine as flour.. so yes same stuff on both coats, stucco or different material for final coat
Nice job!! FYI - What you applied to the wall is 'cementitious coating'. The legal definition of 'stucco' is a 2-3 coat application measuring 5/8" MINIMUM!!! Just sayin'.
You guys have a pretty tight operation running here! I have a garage I've thought about doing this to. What would you do to the brick if it has been painted? Im guessing the plastercrete mix wouldnt stick that great on the non porous paint covered brick. Would I need to screw a mesh on first or something? Thanks!
@@LF12468 all concrete crews are immigrants now. Americans are way too lazy for hard labor. Go to any job site or stuff like oil fields and everyone is talking Spanish, even the engineer. White boys rather sit at home doing drugs than work.
