I'm always back and forth on a lot of your vids. Followed for years, every single visit is as rewarding as the last. Constant wisdom on tap. We need that. Thanks so much! May no more innocent trees be maimed by my hands! ... we strive. Cheers 🙏🏼
Awesome video! One type of bonsai video I've never seen before would be a video on different reasons a tree might not feel well (under/over watering? Too much sun? Too much fertilizer?) Would be really helpful for a beginner like me!
Hello thanks for the great videos I just had a question, all of the nana junipers at my nurseries look a lot bluer than the one you are working on. Are there different nana junipers of the bluish look is not picking up on the camera. Thanks again
I would love to see some more detailed videos of wiring, not bored by it ha. Also interested to see why you deemed those larger branches worthy to remove
Summer is your best option. After the spring flush. If you wire in spring the tree will grow too quick and you'll have to remove the wire soon after you apply it. You can pretty much prune a Juniper any time of year as long as you don't take too much foliage off as the tree stores it's energy in its foliage so the more you take off the more you weaken the tree.
Before bonsai became what we know it as today ( the Japanese model ) it was originated in China and was called Penjing. Penjing uses a clip and grow method where you cut a branch then angle the new shoot towards the sky letting it grow upwards. It was a more natural style. What we see today was created by the Japanese as an extension of Penjing. Early methods involved hanging weights off branches using string to pull branches down. I'm sure there was other methods used before wire as well.

Hi phil, we will still be doing the Podcast but this year has been difficult. We had guests booked at the beginning of the year but had to cancel due to the virus. We could maybe do them over the internet but they are less quality when done that way. We are currently trying to get back on track with everything so hopefully there will be a new episode soon.
Go slow, more closeups. Longer content, this is a teaching channel. If, I want to watch a movie, I’ll watch Quigley down under, Grand zTorno, Patton, Tora Tora, or the Wizard of Oz……. Grin…. ❤❤❤
