Here is my latest video on this topic where I talk more about emphasizing broad shoulders while still creating balanced outfits: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Ur-xazc7yM.html
I have grown to love my broad shoulders. My grandma always told me she envied my broad shoulders bc they make clothes look better and give a woman a stately appearance. Thanks grandma! I
Your grandma is right, I don’t like broad shoulders for myself personally, but I have noticed as well that a woman with broad shoulders that wears a mature style looks stately! That’s a good word to describe it, never had a word for it.
My issue is not that I dislike my broad shoulders..it's that whenever I buy something it is too tight in the shoulders...i feel like the Hulk busting out! Note to designers: not all women have dainty shoulders.
**L** That has been me my entire life (I'm 62). I still have problems with things not fitting well across my shoulders. There are certain cuts that work well for us without having to size up.
I felt this in a deep level, I usually just buy men shirts at this point but it always made feel like I lost my feminine touch because of it but then I try to go get something from the woman’s section and I literally have to size up to like XL or 2XL literally making me loose my waist and myself since im like 5ft tall 😭
As a competitive swimmer my whole life, even in college, it’s been a blessing having stronger shoulders. But now that swimming is in the past I’m left with this weird triangle shape with broad thick shoulders and oddly long arms 🥲 I never wear sleeveless or strappy tops bc of this. Glad to see I’m not the only one! Thank you for the video!
Same i was swimming as a child and i didn’t even know it did that to shoulders and shape them and i stopped LONG time ago and going to high school i learned someone also was swimming and it changes your shoulders Boy i regred bc sometimes i have such nice outfits but the shoulders make me look weird especially in blouses or dresses :(
NO NO NO AND NOOOO!!!!!! Broad shoulders are gorrrgeus!!! I' ve been a rhythmic gymnast all my life and we have a ballerina-ish body but with wider shoulders. I love how they structure my whole body. I love the contrast with my tiny waist. And I adore my calves wich are literally wider than my mouse face, legit🐭😅. Narrow shoulders tend to create the optical illusion of having super wide hips. Gwen Stefani, Mila Jovovich, Stéphanie and Charlene of Monaco for example😍🙌🏻. The way society "punishes" female swimmer body is outrageus😤 🧛🏻♀️🖤🖤🖤
I was traumatized as a kid when someone told me my wide shoulders and thick calves made me look like a linebacker-football player 😭😭 ....but I love me now 😀❤️
My own parents made jokes about me as well and I didn’t realize how much it impacted me until I turned 30! They were joking but it really made me feel less than other dainty looking women. I felt inferior around them even though my shoulders were superior lol Now Im learning to truly love the way God Created me. We are All beautiful 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Sharing my traumatizing experience as well. My roommate took a picture of me while sleeping and hugging a pillow which emphasize my shoulder/arm muscle and even shared it with our common friends. Made fun of it because it's like a male arm.. 😢
As a girl with broad shoulders, ppl sometimes mistaken me as an athlete or even a policewoman because my shoulders make my appearance look healthy as if i just come out right away from the gym😂
@@TheAkhilamascreen same and I haven’t seriously worked out in years XD I personally love accentuating them though with halters and v necklines because strangers think they shouldn’t f*** w me cuz i look tough apparently hahaha
Tbh i find big shoulders attractive, it makes a person look really strong and tough. The media really wants to over glorify dainty, fragile or smaller shoulders, and while they are attractive too, its just simply over glorified and over used. A lot of tough characters in gaming, when the character is a true fighter often have stronger shoulders. If they dont then something is wrong with the team that created em lol. Which is why i have a major problem with the casting of marvel or super hero female characters. I think we should embrace the shoulders, i certainly want to practice embracing mine too.
And broader shoulders don't exactly mean muscley or buff as well. I love seeing broad shoulders on men and women. Clothes seems to hang better and the body looks more balanced.
Did i just learn that my body is indeed a mix between inverted triangle and hour glass? Yes. I have broad shoulders + im tall, my relationship with my shoulders is ✨complicated✨ but I guess we kinda learn how to dress more properly in our very unique way and not just by following trends. Great tips, and even greater examples, thank you for this!
You could be a top hourglass. I'm like you girl I would be an hourglass if my chest was a little smaller and my shoulders were a little less wide but idc I still love my body 😁
I Love How down to earth her attitude is. You see that the whole video really is about giving tips to the ones who need them and not about representing oneself. It’s a great video. Keep doing what you do!
It's because broad shoulders are beautiful! There are no problems with having big shoulders, in the Model industry, beauty pageants that's a plus! Always wear something that compliments it!
@@Persona_0909 I never said they weren’t. I love broad shoulders but I’ve noticed that a lot of women aren’t as happy with their broader shoulders as they should be so I wanted to film a video on some tips for them. Like I said, it’s about experimenting and wearing whatever makes you feel confident. Also, not everyone has the body of a model so they might not feel as happy with their bodies and shoulders as models do, this video is meant to help change that. If you watched till the end I mentioned embracing your shoulders as well. 🤍
Hollie, to Kibbe many Models have broad shoulders (they are 'flamboyant Naturals' in his system), you might be also one or a 'Soft Natural') + you have many style options.
Hi everyone, Just Look to Video 'style thoughts by Rita': there is a new one (14 ours ago) with 'Flamboyant Naturals' + 'Naturals', just for your frame !!! Enjoy IT. There is also 'Aly Art'.
I’ve never seen someone with such a similar body type to mine - long and slim but muscular legs, a short torso with a small, high waist and hips that aren’t particularly wide or narrow, with a bigger but not massive chest and broad shoulders. I’m so glad I found your channel!
I have always been so insecure about my broad shoulders, It has always been so hard for me to find clothes that would fit well with my shoulders, I would literally cry in the stalls at stores because clothes would not fit me because of them, After seeing this video it made me feel more secure about them, being able to see someone else also have broad shoulders and embracing them making them look like a work of art has inspired me! Thank you for making this video and making me feel less insecure about them, this was honestly something I need for so long 🖤 and the tips for sure I would put them to use!
Broad shoulders help balance your silhouette already. It also makes your waist look smaller if you’re going for an hourglass effect. It’s one of the best natural features to have!
No they don’t i look like a man!! it makes my head look so small and on top of my big ass shoulders i’ve also got a wide ribcage so even if it did balance my silhouette my ribcage completely ruins it
@@fakingfrench I feel u😩 I'm only 112lbs but I'm short, have chubby arms and face so I get called fat all the time. Like I don't even care explaining anymore I'm just tired
@@hiro-sl5og I also have a round/chubby face. Not to mention I've gained like 15lbs. I'm sure you're beautiful! Having a round face isn't all bad. People think I'm 10 years younger than I am! Gotta focus on the positives.
I’m also in between an inverted triangle and hourglass. I love off the shoulders and the trending puffy princess sleeves! I actually feel like the puffy sleeves disguises my broad shoulders. Instead of people thinking that I have broad shoulder, they think it’s just the sleeves.
As a swimmer who competes in pool and open water ocean races, I have really broad shoulders! I've learned to love them as they are a result of what makes me a healthy & strong woman. Surprisingly, it's actually what I get complimented on the most. I love that you are celebrating body positivity Gemary. Thank you for all these lovely outfit ideas, it's inspiring me to put some new looks together!
I'm not a swimmer AT ALL, but I look precisely like an Olympic swimmer, with extremely broad shoulders and also a VERY broad back. Makes finding blazers that fit well, really hard. I have larger upper arms, too and can't lie, am envious of women with normal to slender shoulders and upper arms and back. (I have wide hips, very much an hourglass.) But I also see the beauty in having a body that resembles an Amazonian/Wonder Woman shape. :)
Me and my broad shoulders, flat chest , no ass no hips 😂 God just did his job 🙏and if I gain weight it go in to my arms and face just imagine don't forget my hip dips ......thanks for all the like and reply 😗😗 girl's let's love our body
You literally have the same body shape as me where like, I kinda have an hour glass with broader shoulders and being 5ft, I felt like I couldn’t ever find cloths/styles that suited me. You channel has helped me be so much more accepting and confident of who I am and I’m so much more better at showing off my body rather than hide it :,)
We have the same body shape, and I've been confused about what it is for years. I mostly just dress like an hourglass but I avoid super puffy sleeves. I feel like a football player in puff sleeves.
Exactly, i actually liked the first photo of the thumbnail that had the wrong symbol on it. It kinda balances off onto your waist pretty well. When i saw that i felt like that was the right way to do it. Personally i actually liked it better. Broad shoulders look cool i feel like.
Is it weird that I prefer the picture on the left of the thumbnail to the one on the right? Sometimes, fashion tips appear to be all about making people blend in. I have broader shoulders and I love them. Maybe it’s because my shoulders to hips to waist ratio is hourglass. Anyway, I’m learning to love the body I’m in as it is.
ME TOO!! I actually feel like mock necks or that type of shape where the neck line goes in is not only pleasing to my eye, I find that it take attention away from the shoulder and gives the illusion of smaller shoulders like those illusion dresses that make the waist look smaller by making a curved line where the waist comes in. Adding extra fabric I feel draws attention to the shoulders. But like you, I think broad shoulders are pretty and regal. Almost "modely". I'm more of a shape person anyways. I like shoulders that are kinda boxy as opposed to sloping regardless of if they're broad or not.
I definitely think the hip to shoulder ratio matters. My shoulders are wider than my hips, so I wind up looking square at the bottom and wide up top because my boobs and shoulders are big. It makes me look so weird when I'm trying to wear a dress. If I had the hips too, I'd look amazing.
The one on the left looks like they work out, powerful, cool and the one on the right looks.. average. So yh. I agree. Rather than trying to fit the norm, one looks way more attractive embracing how they do look like.
I loved how you showed how to use "unflattering" pieces. Everybody else (who isn't our body shape) only mention what to use and what NOT to, and skip how to style things usually unflattering
as a girl with broad shoulders and hips and a small waist that was growing up in 2000s when anyone that wasn't a size 0, skinny, with narrow hips was considered ugly and 'fat' lol and it made me so self concious and hating my body. now as a developed woman with a very dramatic hourglass figure, i am proud of my big hips and shoulders and i really enjoy my figure.
@@al.345 I totally agree, I wish there was more diversity of human bodies in the beauty and fashion industry so young people wouldn't develop body dysmorphia, eating disorders and lack of confidence.. I really feel like 'body trends' are damaging for everyone.
Thank you for making broad shoulder girls feel seen!!!! I have a love/hate relationship with my shoulders, and seeing a strong and inspiring woman like you create content for our body type is amazing. You have been my style icon all year, I’m looking forward to future videos! Love from NYC xo
Broad shoulders unite!!!! 😂🤍 All shoulders are beautiful, sometimes it’s just a matter of styling. Thanks so much for watching love, I really appreciate it!!
I’m so glad I found this. 1) I’m doing a wardrobe makeup quite soon. 2) I have internalised trauma from being teased about my shoulders and so I hunch subconsciously. I realised the hunch and I’m working to fix that because I know I look damn good and my shoulders are quite fine. Thanks again because I loved your tips.
yknow what’s so funny, yesterday i tried on a sweater i bought and i randomly unbuttoned the top button and i was shocked at how it made me look 😆 i have broad shoulders and i didn’t realize that showing a little bit of chest did good for me 😅i don’t like to show skin, i prefer to cover up but this was a great tip to learn! i’ve been experimenting with clothing so i’ll definitely be trying the unbuttoning look! thank you for this video, very great 😊
As a person with broad shoulder, I personally think halter tops are better for me, it's up to your choice of style I think. I don't like looking loose and curvy so. But layering tips are really helpful, I love it.
I'm just here to say I FLAUNT my broad shoulders and after years of finding them unattractive because they didn't fit the mold, I love them. I feel powerful and strong with them, and would never want them to look smaller. I hope one day you can feel comfortable in your strong shoulders and view them as a blessing. Not everyone has assets like those, and they look beautiful
Yes girl 🔥 I actually think she looked better with the accented shoulders - it really showed of her waistline. I appreciate strong shoulders. Everyone needs to stop trying to fit a single mould
@@chukhuyayo789 THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. I’m technically close to being on the underweight side but somehow the fat on my body stays in my upper arm/armpit area. I don’t understand it at all RIP.
@Lin we have the same body type, inverted triangle, broad shoulders, flat chest, small hips, thin waist. Did you play many sports as a kid? I know with swimming this body type can have advantages.
I’ve never heard a more clear description of my body type. Not rectangle but not hourglass. Yes botas shoulders… soooooo helpful thank you!! I was wondering if anybody related to my description just as yours!
So glad someone finally did a video on this. I have broad shoulders and an hourglass figure and am always trying to find someone online who understands my body type. I think you’re the only one who actually gets it. It’s definitely a struggle sometimes.
I just learnt that I have broad shoulders AND I also just learnt that people don't like them? Why? I think it's stunning & makes you look like a model imo.
Ikrrr i love my broad shoulders too . The other tank top which made the owner of this channels shoulder looked broader i thought it looked sexy and without reading the caption i thouht shes prolly teaching how to pose cuz the second pic looked dull comparatively to the other tank top pic which focused on her shoulders
Who doesn’t like broad shoulders?!?? Most supermodels (the actual real original ones from the 90s and early 2000s) all have broad shoulder and it gives them presence. So tired of people always finding features that makes others feels less than. Like freaking hip dips were no issues until the Kardashian fake wisdom teeth 🦷 hips started trending.
@@froyokid I swear to god, people are just finding new things to feel insecure about. Not saying videos like this perpetuates the idea that broad shoulders are bad but it lowkey does SMH! Why cover them in the first place? We're not cookie cutter copies of each other, we don't have to look like one another & live upto ONE strict beauty/body standard.
I have had a difficult relationship with my broad shoulders! I’m not very thin so I don’t look like a model and its kind of a complex that I look manly..:/
As a broad-shouldered almost-hourglass (a Soft Natural among Kibbe body types) growing up in Asia, looking for clothes that fit well is a life-long struggle. This video helped open my eyes to why certain combinations work better than others. Thank you thank you thank you, I (finally) feel seen
I had no idea my shoulders were broad or normal but I after watching this I know for sure I have super broad shoulders and oddly I have been following all of these tips without realising it! I always thought I looked "heavy/bulky" in the outfits designed for tiny shoulders so I just tried to change my outfits a bit and I really did follow these tips with trial and error, loved the validation though :D
Omg I didn't know I needed this video! I always believed that I was just born with these "unfeminine" shoulders and I couldn't do anything about it - I didn't know I can work it to my advantage! New subscriber here!
THANK YOU! Growing up I've always had broad shoulders to where people thought in highschool that I was working out, lifting weights. I also have the whole inverted triangle and hourglass thing
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm so glad i found somebody with the same body type as me!!! I have really broad shoulders, a tiny waist and a bit of hips but theyre not as wide as my shoulders. I'm currently going thru a fashion style change/journey, and I want to be proud of my body!! I've realized our bodies will inevitably change as we get older and I want to make the most out of the one I have right now.. thank you for the tips!!
This was randomly on my recommendation tab and I'm glad I clicked. I always wondered if I'm styling my broad shoulders correctly. I got them from my mother and I don't mind them, I don't have an insecurity but I want to style myself correctly. This was very informative. 💫❤ You have a new sub!
I’m so glad I’ve found this video. I’m extremely conscious and insecure about my shoulders and I even stopped doing things I loved in the past (playing tennis and swimming), just because I thought they were getting too wide. 15 years later, I regret those decisions but today I’ve decided to have a healthier relationship with my body and myself. Your tips were so helpful and I’m definitely gonna use each one of them. I believe that, by feeling confident, beautiful and good in my clothes, I’ll be able to embrace my wide shoulders soon. So, thank you for sharing your tips 💕
i have the same body type as you and i’ve always been so insecure about my shoulders because they just seemed so BROAD, but i think it might be time to just embrace it AND learn how to dress so that my shoulders don’t stand out as much thank you so much for this
This is the first video for styling a specific body type I’ve seen where everything was practical. There were facts, which could be problems, but you gave us solutions. Very well organized video, thank you!
This is the video that I didn’t realise that I needed! You have an enviable body shape and these were Great tips and helps explain why, when I followed other body-type tips, the clothes still didn’t seem to sit well on my body. Glad I came across this video 😊
BLESS YOU for making this video. ive found so many videos that are just made by middle aged women that say you cannot wear anything but v-necks if you have broad shoulders and i feel like this is the first realistic, uplifting and practical video aimed at younger people who want to be able to go along with current trends
My bust and my hips are exactly the same size, my waist is 10in smaller than both and my shoulders are wider than all these other parts, so it's not a very common body type. I love how you never implied broad shoulders have to be hidden. I think they're great. Some days I want to balance everything out (and I love your tips for that! ❤️), and some days I love my broad shoulders and want to accentuate them and look powerful. Also, they make our waist look snatched in comparison, so that's a nice bonus!
Gurl, same. And I need to wear blazers for work and good luck finding blazers that fit my upper arms and shoulders well, while not being overly huge elsewhere. lol. I often end up wearing sheath dresses, sleeveless ones, then tossing a cardigan over it or a sweater/blazer-ish jacket over the dress.
I almost find no videos on modern styling tips with our body type and you have no idea how thankful I found your channel!!! All the comments here are either so relatable or supportive of loving our beautiful board shoulders. Thank you for this space!!!
Sizing up *always* After 5 year of criticism from my mom over this style I got a compliment out of here yesterday about an oversized fit. If my mom can appreciate it, I feel everyone can (: 🧡🧡
Another tip. Make sure the arm/shoulder seams of the shirt you're wearing lay on the correct place, at the beginning of the arm. If it's pulling around that area it makes your shoulder look broader also! ❤️ Square necks are also a game changer👌🏻
I am glad I stumbled upon this video. Over the past 4 years, I've lost weight, so the body shape I mostly identified with (hourglass) became less recognizable. Looking at this video, I realize that I am now in-between an inverted triangle and hourglass. Since working out, my shoulders and arms have become more defined and I've been struggling somewhat on how to dress it. My biggest challenge will be the snatching the waist since I've never been the hugest fan of belts. Thanks so much for the tips.
Something that I remind myself whenever I feel self conscious about my broad shoulders is knowing that a lot of models have broad shoulders! Broad shoulders definitely gives off powerful vibes that I am in love with whenever I see models on the runway! They also definitely give the illusion of a smaller body and waist ❤️
Some have classified you as the Kibbe type: flamboyant natural (FN), who can have prominent shoulders, and a lot of your tips align with the fashion philosophy for FNs! I'm a natural type myself and I've also found that your tips to help me feel great in my clothes, embrace my shoulders, and work with them instead of fighting my body.
Hi, I have a really similar body to this, but my thighs are a little more muscular/bigger. It is the only difference. I'm 5 ft 2 and 128 lbs. How can I know kibble body type??
@@dottajo7475 this is what frustrates me about the system 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️; I know I am some sort of natural, but I have trouble narrowing it down further than that. Just play around with clothes and see what works.
You forgot to mention denim jackets, trench coats, coats with giant collars, jackets that drape (waterfall jackets), thicker strapped tops, striped shirts (vertical), balloon sleeves and draped sleeves, but above all else embrace this feature. I was just looking at photos of Jennifer Lopez and she has broader shoulders than her hips and she was celebrated for her beautiful derrière.
You have no idea how you have helped me. I always dress wide shouldered, tight bottoms.. always looking not proportioned. Thank you so much. Thank you! Subscribed
I’ve been using a lot of these style tips for a long-long time. Sometimes I like accentuating my broad shoulders, other times I want a more balanced look. My #1 suggestion is trying different bra sizes. Particularly going down 1-2 band sizes and up 1-2 cup sizes. My measurements often suggest a 32 or 34B when shopping online. But I find 30-32 bands with C or D cups are much more supportive, flattering and have a better overall fit which looks better under clothing. Basically if you’re broad shouldered, your chest and breasts may also be broad. The larger cup size holds the whole breast all the way to your underarm creating a curvy shape vs. the boxy shape that can be created by a cup size that ends too soon making breast tissue that didn’t make it into the cup look like flabby underarms.
I love love love broad shoulders, I always had them and bodybuilding has made them a lot broader. I get so excited when people point them out. It’s the part I love the most about my body.
My body type is similar, but i think I’m taller, 5’9” and I’ve been dressing similar to this. Used to be insecure about them when I was younger but now I love them. Also I like your simple and clean, but stylish wardrobe. Nice video. 👍
I'm not even an athlete or exercise that much but people would think I'm that sporty girl because of my shoulders. To the extent I can wear my dad's shirts and not looking clumsy!😂 thank you for this video!
From a broad shouldered lady to another, these tips are invaluable. I appreciate my broad shoulders as I got older and interestingly enough get complimented for it.
So glad I'm not the only one who doesn't neatly fit the body types. I could be a pear, except I have broad shoulders or I could be a rectangle but I have a smaller waist.
It didn't occur to me to reach out for a video like this, I've hated summer looks because of my broad shoulders, hopefully now I can feel more confident :) thank you
I'm a flamboyant natural and these tips are things I've noticed and have railed against as an FN. But I look good in crop tops and cinched waist, although I can also pull off oversized sweaters/cardigans without the cinch. The other thing I've noticed that looks good is an A-line silhouette... creating that with a dress, skirt, or pants. Thanks for validating what I've been noticing! Very good tips.
Wow, exactly the same here - between hourglass and inverted triangle. I appreciate this video as I like to balance my figure too. I've learned several of these things as well over time. Another tip if you're top heavy is to wear dark on top and light on bottom. That's like my go to trick.
Love these tips and you look so elegant as usual! ❤️ I remember reading somewhere that wearing darker coloured bottoms with a lighter coloured top puts less attention on the lower half of your body, and more attention on the shoulders/torso, so wearing the opposite (lighter bottoms + darker top) accentuates the lower half-resulting in less attention on broad shoulders!
Haven’t even watched the video yet; just here to thank you for the choice of your words in the title. It's the outfit that is balanced and changed here; not the shoulders. I think it's soo important to keep in mind that we have nothing to change, the outfit has to (exept when we feel great in it of course). Much love ❤
Having broad shoulders is something that I am just starting to become comfortable with. This video helps so much!! Thank you for talking about this topic!
Thank you so much for this! I fall into the same "bodytype" - not quite inverted triangle/hourglass/rectangle depending on my current weight fluctuation during the month.
this was so useful! I typically gain a little weight during my time of the month (add 5lbs on me changed my body drastically because I'm 4'10") and noticed that when I'm thinner I do have an hour glass shape but I did notice my arms store a little bit more fat in my arms than in my thighs when it happens. For the life of me I could not figure out how to style myself when I go through those changes in my body. SO THANK YOU this helps me out so much.
