How to Sublimate an Image to Aluminum!
After getting a few requests for more videos on Sublimation Transfer printing, I decided to show you how I go about to Sublimate Images on to ALUMINUM Plate that has been coated for sublimation.
I am using a 4 color ( CMYK ) EPSON WF 1100 leaded with a CISS with Precisioncolors Sublimation inks.
Printed the transfer letting the driver control color and choosing Presentation Matte for the paper and PHOTO quality.

Than you. Actually sublimation is one of the ways to produce aluminum prints. You can also use inkjet coated aluminum which can be printed on any printer featuring a straight media path. They require some post treatment such as varnishing and lamination to protect them. None of that is required when you sublimate to aluminum.

Hi Jose, I just got in the digi coat spray for sublimation. I believe its the same layer coating that they apply on the aluminum sheet you got there. I'm gonna apply the the spray on the bottle openers i have so i can sublimate a photo on to it. Will keep you posted. Plus i been rearranging my Computer room to place my new toys...lol. I ordered the white and clear glossy in 32 ounce bottles. I will apply it to so called subway ceramic tiles which are about 4x8". They will be perfect landscapes, as.well as wedding party group shots. It should be about 3-4 days till it arrives. I will be trying my air brush but I don't know if it will be to viscous. I might have to use a hand spray bottle of a wide camel hair brush. Let me see your results in the FB Group!

Hi Jose, thanks for all your great work for us photo printers. I currently sell my photos printed on a Canon Pro 10, with edits using LR & PS. I'm considering adding metal photo prints to my offerings. Not interested in conversion printers. Looking at the Epson SureColor F170 purpose made sublimation printer as a entry level sub printer vs. the Sawgrass 500. I'm primarily intersested in metal prints. The Sawgrass has very expensive ink, but is the Epson F170 have enough resolution to make a good print on 8.5x11. Sawgrass has more resolution but cost more on several levels. I looked at the Epson F570, great print size, and resolution but huge jump in price from the F170. Haven't seen a review of the F170 on your channel. Your thoughts? Thanks again for your work.

Hi Jose, I don't know if you'll see this, but i was wondering if these sublimation machines would be ok to transfer onto an aluminum enclosure, used in small electronics (basically an aluminum box, that are typically about 1.5 inches tall and just a few inches width x length). It would barely use any of the heating surface, which is why I'm wondering if that's ok or if the surface of the heatingheating plate needs to come down all the way and cover most of the area it presses. Thanks!

Nothing special other than you need an EPSON printer loaded with refillable carts loaded with suimation inks. Driver setting are presentation matte at high quality and you let the driver control color. You also have to either manually mirror the image or set the driver to do it. Remember that you will sandwich the transfer print face to face onto the substrate. Thus the need to mirror the image.

Great video. A quick question. How durable are these prints? Will they hold up as long as a regular print?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 6 лет назад
Jose Rodriguez 2 seconds ago Extremely durable. Much more than paper prints. Even the T-Shirt printer by sublimation are lasting through over a dozen washes so far with zero deterioration. Ink turns from a solid to a gas which permanently and from what I hear and read, molecularly bonds i months coating of fibers. My mugs are microwaved and washed in not soap and water and again, zero deterioration. I am sold.

What printing program do you have to use to make it the easiest and get the best results?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 лет назад
There is no easy way. Nor a program that will do everything for you. We use Photoshop or Lightroom or Qimage. Learn the process. I just let the driver control color of my sublimation printer and choose Epson Standard sRGB as the mode. Matte Paper as the media choice and the highest print quality.

Jose, thank you for sharing this process. Can you provide links to where you purchased this press? I am interested in learning this for some of my car photography which I think will look very nice.

I bought this one on EBAY. Cheap and within two months the switch burned out. Bought a better one from www.heatpressnation.com and never looked back. I did fix the first cheap one by replacing the on/off switch.

Epson WF1100 but it's only 4 color. I will move up to an 9 color R3000 for sublimation.

@@gillyb44 except EPSON is using much more inferior dye inks on it. They do not compare to the quality of dye inks previously use on the r1400 r1450 and the current artisan series. I short they are cheap. I guess that's what makes it attractive to many.

ive been dying to diy treat white aluminum sheets with a decent clear coat & heat transfer with a iron if not a heat press. its plausible.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 5 лет назад
Not an iron!!! You definitely need a neat press.

Sublimation aluminum comes pre coated with a white base and clear polyester overcoat which is what accepts the image transfer

What printers, transfer paper, and inks? I have the Eason sc p800. Looking to buy a 16x20 heat press to start.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 2 года назад
The P800 cannot officially be used with refillable carts which you would need to sublimate. You have to render it CHIPLESS by using the special chipless firmware sold by www.inchip.net. Transfer Paper I use is made by A-SUB.

Hi Jose. I'm very close to buying a Canon pro printer. I have a question for you regarding Canon Pro 10 vs Pro 10s. What is the difference? I am able to get a very good price on the 10s (new) but I can't find any information about the difference in specs. Is the 10s as good as the 10? Thank you in advance!
