How do computers subtract? Since computers store numbers as bits, we have to use a bit of clever math to ensure that operations involving negation work as expected. Along the way, we'll also look at negative number representation, before generalizing this idea beyond computer science!

I never seen the "mapping" method for complements. Everybody always say to subtract digit from 9. But we don't have subtraction! "Mapping" is much more intuitive and lets you think the way computer "thinks"!

Yeah, I felt uncomfortable with saying it's a subtraction either, but it's really not the end of the world - I can't say that the "mapping" method is more true to how a computer works either (to really understand that, we'll have to delve into hardware, where you may find that different manufacturers take different approaches), but I'm glad to hear you found it more intuitive!
