The Parenting Junkie illustrates what independent play is. How can we facilitate independent play? Often we inhibit it by doing the exact things we are recommended to do to encourage independent play. In this video you’ll learn how to encourage independent play and how to encourage your child to play independently. Children need independent play. In order to support independent play consider how much passive entertainment is in the home. Independent play for toddlers and independent play for babies is going to look a bit different. It’s best to have things set up separately for them in order to encourage independent play for each child. Setting up an invitation to play is another way to teach a child to play independently. When encouraging independent play you should not choose the play, all play should be child led play. In this video you will learn how to encourage your child to play independently. As you follow child-led play instead of adult led your children will play more independently. By the end of this video you’ll know how to encourage your toddler to play alone.
Don't just survive...thrive.

Hi, I love your channel and have learnt so much through these videos. Thank you so much for spending your time on this ♥️ The only thing that I may suggest, and this is coming from the heart, please do not say that if somebody is unable to help their kids to learn how independently play that they are making excuses. Even if these mums that have taken part in this video do make it happened, despite the circumstances, some other mums/dads just may not too. I feel like I have heard this too many times before; people who give parental advise to use word “EXCUSES” and it makes my teeth cringe. I’m sure you have not used it knowingly. It’s very negative and again set up a parents that are trying to change something and are making an effort to look for solutions, back to negative thinking. This indicates that all these parents that have not done it are making excuses. I feel we have to drop this negativity. Parents just sometimes don’t cope and usually are in a very bad place when looking for support and help. Mums with depression, for example, for whom doing anything, changing anything is a huge effort. I feel like we should say: “yep, use this tips and you can make it happen but if this is too much for you at this particular time in your life it’s fine too” and just don’t use this horrible word “excuses” which makes all the parents feel they are not good enough.

Aww martita! I hear your resistance! I’m happy to hear your suggestion. I will share that I don’t find “excuses” to be a negative thing - I find it empowering when I realize I’m making excuses because it reminds me that I’m creative and capable and I don’t need to play it small or stay stuck when I’m struggling. The struggle is real but it’s not a reason to go after my dreams. Just another perspective! 💕
