This guy forgot one point. if you get charged run and throw something smelly onto the ground in the bears sight like your shirt, backpack or even better if you have some food on you, if you're very lucky the polar bear gets curious enough to stop, this is especially important if you're close to some refugee like a house or close to your car or snowmobile. Can buy you a very few important seconds.
What would happen if there was only one male Grizzly bear and 7.8 billion female polar bears. What if you parachute dropped the bear into the North Pole?
heard a story about one polar bear that killed a guy and ate him like 300m away from his friends and then came after them too …. of course he got them too
I'm a born and raised Alaskan. I've spent a lifetime out in Alaskan wilderness and have had dozens of encounters with grizzlies and black bears alike, some scarier than others, but in spite of the clear and present danger in most cases bears generally show very little interest in people and will normally go out of their way to avoid noisy groups of three or more (assuming there aren't any idiots with a death wish leaving food or garbage anywhere near camp). That being said, all that goes out the window when it comes to polar bears. I never knew what it truly felt like having an apex predator staring you down as it's food until I was in the presence of these animals. Most bears may be omnivorous opportunists that would prefer lazily filling up on grass and berries before making a meal out of you, that being said, fruits and vegetables don't grow in the arctic. Survival is the only reason they need to turn your ass from an "is" to a "was".
A Polar Bear will decide if you are his next meal when he smells you. If he comes and checks you out and moves in close without attacking it is simply because he isn't hungry. Polar Bears also are not afraid of groups of people. They have absolutely 0 fear of humans. The only reason they avoid groups is because it is simply not worth the effort. They will approach groups of people and check them out with 0 hesitation tho.
I can’t recall if it was Jack Hanna or another wildlife expert, and I can’t recall the exact quote either, but it was something along the lines of, “Black bears, stay 100 feet away. Grizzly bears, stay 1000 feet away. Polar bears, stay a mile away.”
@@eiffelviolet Good luck because if you come face to face with a polar bear then you better hope for a miracle because if it decides that you are it's next meal then you are done.
If the bear is black: Fight back If the bear is brown: Stay down If the bear is white: Say good night If the bear is black and white: Relax, you're all right
Even if the bear is black and white you aren't alright unless its a child, an adult panda would maul you to death before you could even realize that panda's can be aggressive.
the more the Arctic continues to suffer from high temperatures and keep melting, the more they will be migrating to human settlements, so tips to survive could well be coming in handy.
Ha ha...however, I have become too fearful and paranoid after watching all these videos. I was sitting down today on a street near a trailhead and I kept looking behind me for a mountain lion.
@@chipgad6932since you’re assuming that none of us 11 year olds can explain anything about polar bears, let me tell you what i and my parents (or just a bunch of my parents friends) would do when we lived on the norwegian Island Svalbard, when we were out in the nature, we would be close too our snow scooters at all times, so if a polar bear from long distance saw us, we would go on the snow scooter and drive as fast as we can, you are how ever, legally allowed to shoot it if you cant Get on the snow scooter before they catch up to you (btw you are required to have a rifle to live on Svalbard), but what you should do, is just to drive away when They begin running towards you, how ever, when you Get chased by a polar bear in the city, you either shoot it, or, you do something that many Norwegians on Svalbard do, They keep their car door open, that way, you Get a quick escape, and you leave alive, so please, dont say that people of that age dont know anything about something, thank you.
Worst case scenario if you don't have a gun, bear spray or flares is to quickly run towards the bear. This will only work with some polar bears and will be more successful if you catch the bear by surprise. Polar bears are the apex predator so if you run towards it, it can confuse and startle the bear into running away. I work in the arctic and had to do this once. Thankfully the bear didn't notice me until I was running towards it so it took off in the other direction.
yeah i also watched another video of a russian pilot who's helciopter broke down in a polar bear infested area. he was attacekd by 3 of them and all he did to scare them off was run towards all 3 of them and scream and sound as big as possible. I guess it works since it worked for 3 polar bears as well as in your case. I think its the best bet at that point lol ; what else could you do if you have no gun or flare?
How to Survive a Bear Attack: "If you encounter a polar bear and you have no bear spray, fight like your life depends on it -- because it does." How to Survive a Polar Bear Attack: "Don't even try and fight back."
@@christianjensen952 People talk about how tall they are standing up. What is eye opening to me is that they are almost as tall as us while on all 4's, that is intimidating! We're just midgets to them lol.
I know a guy who was hunted by a polar bear. One of the scariest events of his life he didn’t even have a big enough gun to stop it. Fortunately he managed to get out alive
@@captaincolata9356 he was deployed guarding a military base. He had to do rounds around it and on one of them he saw dinner plate sized paws tracking him. He had a AR. He immediately went back to base and requested redeployment. The man had been murdering the taliban for many years and is a total badass but I guess 1600 pound hyper carnivore are a bit to much for him 🤷♂️. Can’t say I blame him a AR might as well be a water gun against something like that
@@ajarofpickles2826 AR-10 in .308 will finish the job.. .Book of Genesis --> then God said I shall give you dominion over EVERY beast of the earth....ditto!!! 3rdly arctic dogs ie husky, malamute. will give the bear 2nd thoughts...
@@belladupont6777No because Polar Bears can take a few rounds before going down. Shooting it will only piss it off and will only want it to end you faster.
Leave the building as soon as you possibly can. Do not wait for anything. Know your exits. Stay calm, do NOT scream. If locked in a room, stay AWAY from the door window, this is how Nikolas Cruz (Parkland) killed most of his victims. Be aware of where the gunshots are coming from. If in the same room as the shooter, do not play the hero unless you know 100% you can get the shooter down. Use something sharp are a blunt object. If in the same room as the shooter, stay quiet and keep out of direct sight. If the shooter shoots someone close to you, play dead. These are a few of the things I know, don't take this as truth but it's just my opinion on what to do. Also, be nice to everyone at school, you never know what someone is going through mentally and how some people really just want a good friend.
@@robbieomahony2256 i am stating the obvious, bears are extremely fast and polar bears have one of the best noses they will be hunting you down, unless you have a weapon u can lead it away, also they are one of the only animals that enjoy human meat or dont mind it, learn biology and have good sources before talking to a polar bear
@@notky848 No, you're not right. Please do some research, polar bears won't attack humans until you provoke them. But it's very unpredictable, as they mostly live in Antarctica where's barely any people, and you never know when its hungry, simple answer: they are not used to humans, as they live in Antarctica and if its hungry, it may attack.. otherwise, no (if you do not provoke)
@@ahmedayaat2727 I’m sorry, did I hear unpredictable? Meaning that it can change up at any moment, and it’s hard to tell when? In fact you said VERY. Meaning I’m not wrong. They can and will attack and on-site if they see it necessary. You walking can be something they could possibly see as a threat. And like you said, if they’re hungry, they’re likely to attack. So before you try to correct someone, don’t reinforce what they’re saying by just saying it differently and in a more vague way. My point still stands and it’s still correct. And for a person that didn’t even realize how aggressive these bears were until they saw the first clip, I wouldn’t be talking about researching if I were you.
This is more how not to get attacked by a polar bear than what to do when you are being attacked. Eg: don't cook outside. Who is going to start cooking when you're being attacked by a polar bear?!
Fun Fact : 95%of the people watching this video will never come face to face with a polar bear outside of a zoo, and the ones that do will probably end up in the situation under very contrived circumstances.
How to survive a polar bear attack: If you have a gun, best place to shoot is in between your eyes. Technically the cause of death would have been suicide, so technically you would survive.
How to survive the titanic: don’t go on it How to survive a home invasion: have a gun How to survive a kidnapping: don’t walk alone in old alleyways How to survive a polar bear attack: *you’re fucked*
No but seriously though, if you ever are in the arctic with nothing to defend yourself than just kiss your life goodbye. Unlike grizzlies who mostly just attack cause they assume you're a threat, polar bears attack to kill you and eat you! I think maybe your best option is to run, hear me out on this one. If you're a reasonably fit and have enough adrenaline you might be able to out run one. I mean its worth a try considering you're dead meat either way.
So basically Black bears: Make yourself big and loud while backing away. They get scared easily and are not likely to attack. If you do see a bear you better wish its a black one because they are the friendliest. If they approach you they are probably curious (kind of like big dogs) Brown bear: back away slowly. DO NOT MAKE YOURSELF BIG OR LOUD. Stand your ground and hope it goes away. If it doesn't let it attack you DO NOT FIGHT BACK. It will eventually stop and as long as it didn't bite you in the neck you probably probs won't die. PLAY DEAD. Do not get up for at least 15 minutes after the attack because if it sees you get up it'll come back. Basically, play dead and hope for the best. Polar bear: You are absolutely fucked. Playing dead and intimidating won't work. Fight as hard as you can but you'll probably die.
Join the new millennium, where we use the metric system. Hehe. you must be joking. and the Polar Bear can get even bigger. The biggest ever seen was a monstrous 1002Kg.
2:17 So you're telling me that Usain bolt is the only human on earth that can outrun a polar bear and survive? That's the only way to survive a polar bear encounter? 🤔
Polar and grizzly bears are mating due to climate change and those bears are like polar bears but they can go into warmer weather and are even more aggressive
