Brisa Contreras community bathrooms are cleaned every day. Usually they're not deep cleaning, just basic floor mopping, wipe down, and refills.

Brisa Contreras you say that until you see how the 14 other girls operate. I'm not spending hours cleaning after others. And a week cleaning isnt enough. I remember my family came to clean my sisters community bathroom when visiting and literally an hour after cleaning it it was disgusting again the next day it looked like no one cleaned it at all so what's the point. You cant yell at other people to keep it clean because they aren't required to.

+Jasmine Valiente In my dorm at least we had to sign a contract saying that we would keep all shared spaces clean so whenever I saw that someone made a mess I would immediately call them out in the floor wide group chat (if I was there when they made it I would say it to them in person). You are always allowed to call out people when they're disrespecting others.

THIS. I lived in a dorm for a year that had a sink in your room (you and a roommate shared) and a shower/toilet for you and the room next door (4 people shared). Now I'm moving to communal showers and I've never been so anxious and stressed in my life to not have a SINK.

I had this at my college freshman year (and miss it so much, now i'm in communal ugh) and if it's like mine, they don't have cleaning staff who come in so REMEMBER TO CLEAN THE SHOWER AND TOILET. The four of us literally didn't even realize until winter break - yeah, four months in - that no one had been cleaning the shower or toilet. We did a deep clean when we got back and holy shit it was nasty

I personally wear a robe back to my dorm with some undies, I have a single though so I have no roommate but the walk back isn't really too awkward, like as long as you have yourself covered, everything is a-okay. As for roommates, last year I did have a roommate but I didn't have a communal bathroom, BUT you'll find in a couple months you and your roomie get comfortable enough changing around each other.

I study in Britain and I used to live in the uni halls. one thing I'm thankful for is that I had my own en-suite room but I had to share the kitchen with other 5 students. they were unbelievably untidy and messy. the kitchen always looked like a landfill, especially when they get drunk,,,

I have curly hair and didn't find it to much of a hassle to do in the shower but this is what my friend with a longer routine would do. She would wear an old t-shirt or a bathrobe and stick her hair underneath a running shower head until it was wet enough. Then she would shampoo it out by the sink and rinse her hair the same way she got it wet. Then she would follow with her next step by the sink. And so on. It is definitely more cumbersome to do a curly hair routine in a dorm but you make it work in the end.

If your dorm bathroom is anything like my college dorms. It’s disgusting. You don’t want to wash your brushes in the bathroom. What I did was buy a cleaning matt and a large glass bowl (comes in handy for other things so you’ll use it a lot) I fill up bowl, and take it back to my room. If the water gets too dirty I refill the bowl. It’s a little time consuming, but I rather this than having my brushes anywhere near the toothpaste, old food, and only the lord knows what else, filled sink

Marie My college community bathroom had those metal bins that they lined with paper bags. Also now that I live by myself I like to save my fast food paper bags & fold them up as an extra barrier to throw my used products away.

If you're comfortable using tampons, insert a fresh tampon when you're in the toilet cubicle before you have a shower. (As another poster said you can put your used tampon, after wrapping it in a little tissue inside small food bags and then dispose of it in the bin/trash. In the UK you can get specialised plastic bags for this reason, but there's no huge difference.) I think the method of the plastic baggie is good because it provides a smell barrier, and is just less messy for the janitor who has to empty the sanitary bins/trash cans. For extra clean-up before your shower you can use hygiene wipes and dispose of them in your baggie, though you may find it unnecessary. Anyway inserting tampon before shower I find means you're not scared about any leakages or whatever. It's also ideal for anybody who has very heavy flow, as you'll only be in the shower for a short time and you can change again straight after. And finally, don't be too worried! You're sharing the bathroom with other girls, who also experience periods & who just also wanna get clean as discretely as they can. Nothing to be truly embarrassed or ashamed about. Praise O. Hi For your vaginal health you should only clean the outside (as recommended by health professionals etc). This is because the interior of the vagina is "self-cleaning". Cleaning the inside with any soaps is gonna upset the pH balance, and if this is thrown off the naturally occurring balance of bacteria also goes outta whack and you could be left dry, irritated or even more prone to infection. There's more info available on this online, just make sure you use a trusted health site. Or even ask your doctor or gynaecologist, for an even more trusted opinion. :) Hope this helps!

StarWarsNerdy02 Not all universities have communal bathrooms! Most have both. I know at my school one of the girls dorm buildings has communal bathrooms and the other one has suite style bathrooms (one bathroom shared among four people), but the suite style housing is more expensive.

Anna Beth Barton both options still sound horrible to me. I’m sorry, maybe it’s because our culture is different in the Caribbean but I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing a bathroom with 3 other people I’m not related to. Luckily for me I’m starting med school in Ireland in September and all on campus accommodation has en suite bathrooms in each room.

StarWarsNerdy02 If u were going UWI and staying on campus girl you would have communal bathrooms lol. Caribbean universities are no different but you get used to it bc everyone has to use it. Plus my hall bathrooms are pretty clean

i would say just shave as you normally would- of course it's gonna be a little more complicated but just make sure you rinse away all the hair of the floor and stuff
