Kewl. A note about removing the Motherboard and CPU power connectors - they are held in place with a latch mechanism. Trying to remove them without pressing on the latch will not be a joyful experience. When you have 'gutted the carcass", it's a great opportunity to remove dust and gunk from fans, radiators and PSU vents.
That is what is putting me off a PC build lol, But I will still do it, I always get nervous when I got to do the Power button connectors to the motherboard as they is different, It gets me edgy but I will do the Camera method, I am doing an MSI Mag Forge 320 case today, An i5 12600k, Cooler master liquid cooler 240 on a Gigabyte H601i Mini ITX mobo, With a 3060, It is going to tiny tucked away in the top left corner, lol, A mini ITX board in a Mid Tower case, I am actually wondering now will it actually look good, lol, Will find out later....
I think for beginners that don't know where the cable go you can get those small stickers and write down a number and stick on the wire and connectors with the same number and then unplug the cable so when you want to plug it back in its easier to find which cable go where
No need ...the guide is very good...just make sure to take pictures at the power button and reset button litle pins or just remember where did you unplugged them from and the rest is easy. I had to go and dawnload the manual online for my motherboard..I thought I f up for like 30 min...didn't know what to do.
I used this guide today whilst doing my first ever case swap (with added cooler replacement). Really easy to follow the step-by-step instructions and the result was a very satisfying first time boot! Thanks mate, I was really nervous about attempting this.
thanks brotha, bought a prebuilt around 5yrs ago just recently problems started happening. Went out and bought everything and watched this step by step swapped everything out and into the new case within a hour, cheers mate good vid
Thanks to this video I was able to complete my case swap relatively easily. I had a Predator desktop from 7 years ago but upgraded with a new board, Ryzen 5 5600, AMD Radeon and 500gb m.2 ssd. In the old case idle temp was high 50s c but with the new case idle temps in the 30s c range 😁😁😁
OMG I was sure that I wouldn't be able to do this on my own. I even thought about hiring someone to swap my pc but I decided to try it first with your video. And u know what? I frcking did it on first try. Everything worked perfectly and my new pc looks amazing. Thank you so so much! You are my hero 💙
Got a Corsair 4000D case coming soon as I'm ready to upgrade from my prebuilt rig. Just watched every minute and will be coming back to this when I switch. Great video!
I don’t really comment on videos but this video made the whole process extremely straight forward. If you’re nervous to start, trust me in saying follow this video and you’re golden. Thank you for the quality video!
Awesome walkthrough! I was 90% sure of how to go about this, but having a lovely Australian voice to check my work was immensely helpful and reassuring.
thank you so much for this tutorial! I have a new case coming in today and as someone who's never build a pc before I'm quite scared to swap cases hahaha but this vid has given me confidence and hopefully all goes well. thanks again!
Just swapped my case from a pre built that I’ve now fully upgraded to new parts except the motherboard and your video was absolutely perfect! Thanks man. Only problem I had was forgetting to connect one of the power cables for the MOBO after slapping it all together 😅
Yeewwwww!! This video was made for people in your position and it's freaking awesome hearing your positive experience! Thanks for the comment , means the world ❤️
this absolutely saved my life! i've been holding onto a brand new case for months because i was too scared to attempt changing cases but thanks to this vid, i got it done in no time! (we won't address countless rewatching for "just in case" purposes) Thanks for this!
Thank you, I have learned a lot about computers now, but haven't been comfortable doing this before, now I am looking forward to using this video as a guide for when I do hopefully soon!
Welp... I tried this guide step by step and I couldn't be more happier!!!! Everything went smoothly and now my pc looks and I bet will keep way cooler since my previous case had 3 fans, now I have 6! Thank you so much for your video you def earned my sub!!!
This video was great for the case swap I did last weekend. I've had a Acer predator desktop for a number of years and recently purchased a new board, Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, GPU and power supply but these went into the old case. Doing this case swap and putting all the components in the new case resulted in a drop of idling temp by 20c 😁😁😁
@@ThermaltakeAustralia Thank you so much! Although I’m from Europe, this is still so good, please. This is the best tutorial ever. And it gave me inspiration to start my own tech business. Thank you.
Hey, youre an lifesaver! I swap cases for the first time and this video was an HUGE help! Im not fully finished yet👌 I got a corsair hx 1200 i think it is fully modular and got a ton of cables with it😵 I just bought an Thermaltake View 71 TG with two fans included 👍👌
This is great. My new case arrives tomorrow night, and I was worried about messing something up or having it take too long, but this is a very clear and helpful guide that's given me enough confidence to swap my cases with relative ease.
the video is 2 years ago so i dont think u will read this but ur videos are awesome ur vibe is so chill and everything is super understandble thank u for doing this videos
Thank you soooo damn much for this video. It helped me get through my first case swap. The only work I’ve done previously is installing a Wi-Fi card. So I’m a total noob 😂I couldn’t have done it without this video.
Dope video thank you! and don't know if you're familiar but you had two Sarah Kang songs in the background which is a favorite artist of mine. Really chill and helpful video!
Note: After you turn off your PSU switch, press your pc's power button a few times and hold it for a couple seconds. This will get rid of any power left.
This video is absolutely incredible. I've never been super great with working on computers, and I wanted to upgrade somethings. New case, new gpu and a new PSU. I only followed this one video and everything is working flawlessly after a few hours of work (and plugging my sata back in after it unplugged itself doing the stuff everything in and hope for the best cable management method lol). Definitely getting a subscribe and a thumbs up, thank you for your help
Finally someone that actually Turns OFF the PC Power Unit Before removing Anything!! I've watched at least three Case Swap videos and not one switched OFF the PSU! In fact one even switched it ON before removing anything !!! Really! You guys should really check your videos Before uploading!
Bought a PC for myself on Christmas and now I am going to swap the case in 2 days and attach some new Corsair fans. Hope everything goes as planned hahaha 😀
Is there a reason you have to completely disconnect the pump from the CPU? Is there a problem with move it all together keeping it connected? Thinking about swapping cases and don’t wanna have to disconnect that whole shebang if i don’t have to 👍🏼
To my new ceres 500 tg snow case i am changing from my old coolermaster elite. Giganyte b660m ds3h 12100f eagle rtx 3060 12 gb corsair rm750. Still working on it. Loved my ceres 500 tg snow
"So simple a child could do it." I've added a few steps when I do a case swap. I place a double layer of bath towels on my desktop. They catch screws if they fall and help to prevent damage to other components. I use an old-style ice tray to store my screws and small parts. I label each bin, showing where they go. If you have a set of paint-type pointed-end marking pens, you can place a dot of the paint on the bin and another near the screw hole where they go. The CPU power cables located at the top left of the MB can be hard to remove and replace. I remove them after I have loosened the MB and reattach them before I mount the MB. If I replace any components with new ones, I reassemble the PC on a test/workbench. This step ensures that the new parts can be tested before mounting them in my new case. I bought one from ANAZON for less than $30. I hope that some of my steps assist you with this project.
Great video! I'll be transplanting the guts of my current rig into a Versa H24 case in the next few days and this guide is a bit of a confidence boost. A question about "built-in" stand-offs (the domes or little bridge bits with threaded holes that are pressed out of the metal in the CPU tray) for the motherboard inside some pc cases: On a few forums I've had people telling me "put electrical tape on those stand-offs or it'll short out" or "don't use them, they'll short out your motherboard". Am I correct in thinking that these guys are being a little paranoid? I mean why would the case manufactures build "built-in" stand-offs if they were going to be a short hazard for the motherboard?
Hey Nathan! Jono here - That's awesome mate! Excited for you to do your first case swap, I hope everything goes smoothly for you, just take your time and you'll nail it! In regards to your question about included stand-offs: I've been building computers for 15 years now and if a case has come with stand-offs, I've used them. I've never had a motherboard short out due to standoffs not having electrical tape on them, although that's the first time I've heard anyone mention that haha. I will say, the PC Building community does have its fair share of "extra-paranoid and overly cautious" builders out there - Heck.. I've even worked with some haha. PC Hardware is nowhere near as fragile as some make it out to be. You will be fine with using the included standoffs. JUST MAKE SURE that you don't drop a screw or m.2 stand off behind the motherboard and then screw the motherboard down and start the PC, as that's something that could short the PC. Hope that helps out!
I have issues. After I changed the case the fps in the games got low. Before I always played with fps 200-300. But now it’s not getting higher than 100 (30-70), it feels like I’m lagging. I updated the drivers and tried different stuff, it doesn’t really work. What can the issues be?
A case with bad airflow may result in increase of temp which is probably the reason of sudden bad fps, if not you might have broken a or some components, you might wanna get that checked if that's the case (pun intended)
I love this, Sadly i don't have the materials to fully swap since my pc has a wifi card on it and the antenna cant be removed without destroying the wiring.
Great question to ask! Providing you've installed everything correctly, it'll boot up as if it were in the old case still, i.e. it'll be as if nothing has been swapped :) Everuthing will be there.
Took me 1 hour to swap cases the first time ,the most difficult thing was to connect the powerbutton cause of the small text on the motherboard, the rest pointed itself.maybe i seen to much pcbuilds on youtube...but i was upgrading 2 different pcs earlier.and with this swap i needed another powersupply and a other gpu and ram memory.swapping a wx2100 for a rx590.also had to install windows 10 from 32bit to 64bit and than to windows 11(system not supported) but bypassed that.that took me the longest.
Probably a dumb question... I'm thinking about swapping my case sometime soon and haven't done this before. I have 3 SSD's in my current setup. When I transfer everything to the new case, will I need to ensure that the SSD's get plugged into the exact same SATA ports or will the computer just know which drive is which? I would hope that I dont have to reinstall windows or any programs/games... so I am just wondering if it all needs to get plugged in exactly how it was in the previous case. Thanks in advance for any advice provided!
I got a new case and I was rocking and rolling right along until I got to the Wi-Fi antenna..... I have no idea where to put them on my new case I'm so lost please help!!!!
How expensive are PC components in Australia? I've heard there's really only one company besides Amazon to buy from in Oceania, does that inflate prices much?
i’m a beginner i’m stuck on removing my hard drives lmao i have no idea what i’m doing i can’t unplug anything because it’s too far in i have the lian li lancool ii case
Very well done tutorial! I've got a new case to put my current pc (his name is Turtle) into. Later, Turtle will be upgraded in other ways. His brother Simmy (sim racing pc) is still waiting on parts before assembly :D
Note: After you turn off your PSU switch, press your pc's power button a few times and hold it for a couple seconds. This will get rid of any power left. Also, don't have your PC on carpet or anything that creates static. (While working on your PC, AND wherever you have it sitting for use.)
You did a great job explaining everything and I appreciate the help now im pretty sure im missing cables or something I bought a gaming pc last tax return and it was stupid out dated and I got ripped of so I got me a newer graphics card because the pc said my graphics drivers are outdated and I also got a new case but something is missing I think Could someone help me please
Thanks for the tutorial, however, do i really need more thermal compound? I don't currently have any, and was wondering if I could jut route the motherboard on installation through the top of the case as there is a slot for that. I dont want to go trough all the trouble or re applying thermal compound, so this I think is a possible solution.
If I'm using the same motherboard, cpu, and hard drives is there any software changes that need to be made? I'm only upgrading my vidocard from a rtx 3080 to a rtx 4080. Oh yeah also upgrading the power supply from a 750w to an 850w
