This no longer works as of the new release on 7/8/21. Because of this, I reverted back to Windows 10. The new Windows 11 start menu is a deal killer for me, and I really hope they fix it.
@@nvagn I'd say it's a mix between vista and 8, due to the amount of computers that can actually run 11 is very small, just like vista. And I did actually like how windows 8.1 looked, but yeah base windows 8 is just bad. Hopefully they make like a windows 11.1 that fixes most of the issues, because there's just too many to count
@Botrax Thanks for comment ive just installed windows 11 and have been wondering why this wasn't working, why would microsoft stop people using the classic start menu
@@avert_bs If the targetted devices for Win 11 is very less, why not keep away the "Touch friendly" things aside and fix the desktop things first? Maybe a Win11.1 with full touchscreen support can be released later. The start menu is minimal and touch friendly but it lacks many things that are unique to Windows. Why sell your house to buy a new car?
@@blessedgaming2294 Is the wheel too old for you to use? Or is water too old of a thing for to drink it? Good design is good design no matter how old it is.
people be like, shame that the developers couldn't have made the OS less glitchier THE VERSION YOU ARE USING IS LEAKED AND UNOFFICIAL, HOW DO YOU EXPECT IT TO HAVE ALL YOU NEED YET?
Well that couldn't have been any easier, right? Thanks Brian, for that quick tutorial. You'd think that whatever gui changes Microsoft makes to their future operating system you should be able to undo or be able to switch back to a prior OS. From windows 7 going forward, they should've been putting in switches or menus choices as a way to go back to a style of operating system you like best and call it a day.
Initially when I saw they were changing the Start Menu (again) I thought well maybe there will be some nice improvements but once again, kinda like when they released Windows 8, I think they actually went backwards. I dont see how the Windows 11 version even remotely makes accessing anything from the Start Menu easier or more organized than the Win 10 Start Menu. It basically seems like they made it flatter and less dynamic by a mile. What am I missing?????
I had not switched to Windows 11 because I don't like their start menu, so now with you help I have no excuse to switch over. I will back my windows 10 up this weekend and give it a try.
I tried this and checked my work several times. However, it didn't work. Not sure why. I think the tiles were a useful tool for quick access to programs.
If you have a tweak to restore the timeline (Win+Tab), you're very(!) welcome to present that too. Removing a thing like that without replacing it with something at least similar to it... sometimes I wonder if they suffer economy problems. The drugs they're doing during their project meetings sure can't be of the high quality kind anymore.
love it, without any 3rd party software, all just regedit. hope it stays that way. i know may ppl love win7 or xp style start menu, but ever since win8 , i love the tile style, it is always there, it doesnt move around, you only need to click once to open a software, and it is neat. i have managed to completely become independent from my desktop(not putting anything on it) and the use of tile style works well with it.
😩 I agree, I bought a new HP desk pc and this is what I got ~ W-11. I don’t like it nor want it, however it’s what came with the new hardware and I’m stuck with it. 👎 Before I make changes and reset everything I can to make it feel like a W-10 I'll wait and let the dust settle a little. 😥 All I wanted was a new piece of hardware to replace my old unit.
Thanks for this regedit hack! I wouldn't have a huge problem with the Windows 11 menu if it wasn't so limited, they don't allow us to stretch it to make more room for pinned items. I hate haven't to scroll all the time and hit the apps button just to see all of my apps.
So much for Microsoft saying that windows 10 was the last operating system.. I have modified my win10 installs to make it feel more like windows 7 and I have done so for a lot of friends as well (most are older and cannot get used to the tablet centric win 10 menus on their desktops).
Is this the fastest "change back" video for a version of windows? lol.. lots of people don't like change. Though with windows I can understand it. If it ain't broke etc
If I do eventually get a pc and I'm able to upgrade to windows 11 I'm gonna try this bc I'm definitely use to the windows 7 start menu but being a user on my old PC of windows 10 for a while I'm also somewhat use to the windows 10 start so it's nice that I will be able to make windows 11 start look more windows 10 like
I messed up my system with so many tweak softwares for bringing back the old start menu from Win 10. Didn't see this through. Thank You Sir. Bdw, I'm in desperate search for a tweak that would enable the old vertical folder styles in Win 11 too, coz the new one doesn't support thumbnail previews ayk, which is really a pain in the ass. Is there any workaround? Searched everywhere.
THANK YOU!👏👏👏👍👍😃😃 I have quickly grown to hate Win 11! Now, is there a way to prevent Win 11 to ask for logon credentials every time you reboot or resume from sleep mode? I just want to directly go directly into my Desktop - just like Win 10. And I've grown to like the classic Windows Logon sound. Win 11 won't play it, even after enabling it in Sounds.
why do ms think we dont want the start menu why not just give an option to change it like the taskbar... why do we have to import reg keys ...do ms ever listen to the feedbackhub
No, they don’t. They are so large that they “know better” than you. They know that you will put up with the crap since you have no real choice. It’s like when they moved over to the Ribbon in Office. This was absolutely nothing to do with usability. They also didn’t have. “Classic Mode”. When I asked why, they said (Micro$oft person on Micro$oft forum) that they were sick of people asking for features that were already there. The purpose of the ribbon was to force everyone to re-learn the UI to find all the features for themselves. Never mind the millions of hours of collective lost work from people who could no longer find what they needed without searching for it! Arrogant? Ya think?
wow just got windows 10 Pro all tweaked in and working great, I really don't want to switch yet. darn it... How long can we keep windows 10 Pro ??? Used win 7 Pro for ever. This is a work station, with 3 video cards, Ryzen 64 core CPU, 256 gig ram. I use it for doing 3D Modeling and Animation, Fluid Sims, Solid Works, Mays, 3DMax etc etc. thanks keep the awesome video's coming. long time viewer :)
Brian is it possible to use the registry editor to stop the app windows from being combined on the taskbar? I would rather not have to install a separate bit of software to achieve this. I like to see what I have opened on my task bar at a glance
Does anybody know what worthwhile feature content besides a slightly updated UI will be part of this release (if it is that)? At the surface I see a minimal update to the UI that however doesn't make it look any less plain or dated. It appears that MS is still having their Accounts Payables team (no offense intended) design the UI while the developers can spend their time on adding even more complexity to the registry to further confound application developers and users. I am soooo happy that I don't have to work with this operating system any more (unless my wife has a problem with her gaming rig of course). 😉
I had to jump through hoops to make some of my games, like Borderlands 3, even work on windows 10. We'll be playing Fallout 4 with mods for ever and ever; if windows 11 were to f*ck that up for us, I might have to whoop somebody's ass!
Brian, excellent video on going back to start menu for windows 10. Brian is there a way to get rid of new top of settings in windows 11. It worked well for Windows 10 but cant remove it in Windows 11. Please help as hate that new top features in settings. Regards, Clive How to remove the Header in Settings please.
Thank you for that registry hack! MS Should have a simple switch for that in settings. I'm slowing feeling much better with the move to 11, although we will wait till 2025 to do so. Perhaps some good-hearted fellow will create a utility, like "classic shell" for us, to make all needed changes happen in one go!
@@stephendriver8934 I tried all that. Yes it seems to go, but it’s still lurking in the background, chewing up memory, processor cycles and network bandwidth. God help you if you install updates coz then it all comes back and you have to go through the removal process again! If only the software I have to use for work (Adobe, mostly) ran on Linux, I’d ditch Windoze in a heartbeat!
If they don't give us the option to put our apps into categories I'll be using this tutorial to go back to W10 Start Menu. I like everything on W11 except for the functionality of the Start Menu.
When I go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced, directly under is a sub folder named StartMode. Clicking on it, there shows a D Word named ActualStartMode with a hexadecimal value of 1. Adding a D WORD named "Start_ShowClassicMode" and changing the value to 1 produces no change. Should I rename the D WORD ActualStartMode to Start_ShowClassicMode ????
From what I have found, it will be a free upgrade to Windows 11. Stay tune to the Microsoft Windows announcement on June 24. These Windows 11 are not official from Microsoft, the word is that Windows 11 will be out October 2021.
If it is true that Windows 11 will require a fairly recent hardware to function, then I guess that millions of Windows OS users will not upgrade to Windows 11.
Topic: How to get windows 10 start menu in windows 11. I followed your instructions (thanks) and this didn't work for me. Nothing changed. I wonder if in more recent versions something changed. I am using Version 21H2 21000.318.
No you should not download it and use it as a daily driver. Is a development build. So unless you are just a tech enthusiast and okay with Beta software. I would wait for a retail release in a year or so
Yeah, when Windows 10 expires, there is a big possibility. I will switch to Linux, because it looks like Windows 11 is gonna be a more obnoxious version of 10 with a lot of bloatware.
Microsoft, This should not be a reg. edit, it should be in the settings. Please complete OS before release. I don't think users want Windows 8 all over again! I hope someone in MS dev. department reads this.
Technically it is already "available" for download. Just not official. I expect an official "release" will be given on the announcement Jun 24, 2021 but this will be an insider preview. Will be a year or two before a retail version is available (most likely)
I think I meant to write that Microsoft should have included the change to Windows 10 start in a easily toggled switch in settings. I cannot help you, sorry
