Using a very high aperture on your camera with a bigger lens can also allow to see the sun while protecting the sensor but the sensor can still overheat and sustain damage if looking at the sun for too long.

@jack.b1747 I wasn't one of the lucky ones in totality so for us it could still blind. But yeah, if it's totality it's safe to look for those few min.
