I see many people complaining about taxis in Bangkok, and that they always try to cheat you. Maybe I have a few tips that can help. Enjoy!
1. Just do not not take taxis that are waiting for customers in the busy tourist areas. These guys might have been waiting there for a while and even pay somebody for their spot. They are looking to find gullible tourists. Always take a taxi that is driving around.
2. Try to have some sense of where you are going. Taking a taxi from the wrong side of the street, makes them know that you are new in town, and ready to be taken.
3. Open the door of the taxi, but don't get in yet. Tell the taxi where you want to go. If he starts negotiating, just close the door and wait for the next one.
Try and find out how the say the name of the address where you want to go as Thai as possible. Speaking with a heavy English accent will probably stimulate the driver to treat you like tourist.
