@@geofatboy - Quick question for yah! Would u recommend to recondition and moisturize ur shaving brush by after cleaning it to go lather up some shave soap and let it dry overnight! Heard that is bad for the brush letting the lather sit in overnight. I usually do it for like 3 or 4 days in a row to put back some conditioning in ur brush hair. I usually deep clean my shaving brush every 6 months by using Johnson's baby shampoo first and then a good vinegar/water soak-agitation cleaning! Maybe just leave the lather in for like an hour than sit overnight! I read comments about some being good to do and also bad comments on the matter of it will kill the life of ur shaving brush and shed hairs! Thought I would ask Obi Wan Kenobi of shaving! LOL! Thanks and would appreciate to hear ur thoughts!

Hey Geo, It’s great that you show to take care of your equipment as well as just how to use it. I know some people just rinse their stuff and let it dry. You go into depth and explain why to do everything. Great video 😊. Hope your weekend is going well.

I love my Simpsons Chubby 2 Best Badger. The brush holds so much lather. My brush did indeed shed a bit when new, but I've had it for 2 years and don't notice any shedding now. I am doing the squeeze of the knot and placing it on a stand bristles down. Gently brushing it on a microfiber cloth is something new that I've learnt. Thanks for doing this video on brush care, since I didn't know that it's best to perform the gentle brushing of the brush on the microfiber cloth or the combing of the dry bristles. I always learn new and useful tips from your videos.

Thanks for most informative Video. I've just purchased a Simpson Emperor 1 Brush, looking forward to using it soon. I've had a problem recently getting a Lather thick enough to shave. Either because the Pre Shave doesn't like mixing with water, or the Brush is 10 years old. Top of the range of Taylor's of Old Bond Street, as well. Peter.(From the Land Down Under!!!!)

Excellent advice Geo! I clean my Omega boar brush by rinsing and squeezing the knot as shown but then. just like Bob Ross, I 'beat the devil out of it' against my finger tips. Seems to work well but not sure I'd do it with a chubber!

My takeaway from this is that if you shave daily, don't get a dense brush. You're better off with a standard lower end badger brush with less hairs.

I wouldn't worry if I was any of you guys, I was an idiot with my first badger brush, poorly maintained it, was way too rough on it and it still managed to last me years despite being a cheap starter brush. So as long as you take Geo's instructions to heart I'm sure your brush will last a long time.

I have the biggest Simson synthetic Trafalgar. It may not lather as well as a badger or boar brush, but... it dries extremely fast, like within an hour, keeps its shape perfectly, and... has never lost one bristle. And its the only brush i've owned which does'nt get stored upside down... Low maintenance...very....

Thanks Geo👍👍 Another simple cure to an overlooked necessity. I've heard of everything from using ultrasonic cleaners to soaking in vinegar, sometimes simple is best. Shampoo, conditioner, rinse, dry and comb...after all it's hair or a cheap copy... 🤣
@10floz30minutes
@10floz30minutes Год назад
Soaking in vinegar may be a choice if you are using hard water and the bristles accumulating soap scum, or if the hardness ions are being deposited each time the bristles dry. In three year's time, I have only soaked a brush once in dilute vinegar. No need to do so frequently.

I have a Simpsons Chubby 2 in super badger and I have had it a while but have only used it about 5 or 6 times as I have 17 brushes in all. I have lost 4 hairs in total since I started using it. In my opinion it is a fantastic brush but at a fantastic price!! It needs a lot of soaking each time before you use it and it needs a ton of soap to get enough lather for a 3 pass shave. So expensive all round. I personally prefer the Chubby 2 Synthetic which is silky soft on the skin but has terrific backbone!! Probably the best Synthetic on the market. Cheaper still are the Simpsons Trafalgar T1, 2 & 3. These are excellent brushes too with good backbone. Taylors SH1, 2 & 3 are also great super badger brushes with a good backbone and medium price. I have a CH2 Trumper super badger brush that was £130 and it's bloody awful!! No backbone and not very dense. Flops all over the place. Dave.

If you rinse your brush once in clean water and shake it out, some of the bristles still stick together. After three or four rinses in clean water each time, shaking the brush out results in all the bristles being separate and fluffy again. This works well in relatively soft water. I am not sure about hard water.

Don´t know if anyone has mentioned this little trick: Warm up the brush so it´s good and saturated, pour some of you wifes Hair Conditioner into your palm and work the brush just like your working up a good shaveing foam, comb out the brush with your combs wide teeth first, then the small teeth. Rinse with warm water, shake and let dry in your brush stand upside down. This method will save you from pulling out strands and make it feel soft.
