I NEVER comment on these videos, but this one is just way too good. So informative with the power ratios, light setup as well as background and foreground exposure. I just HAD to say thank you for this video. Newbies (including myself) tend to overthink things which causes some of us to just forgo using flash/strobes. THANK YOU! From Austin, Texas!

I'm a fan & love what you do but here's a challenge Eli, minimalism. 1- FJ80II with no softbox, a small modifier such as a MagMod Magsphere & a Maggrid, which would all take up very little room in a camera backpack or sling & a lightweight nano stand.

Great point! I just did a studio shoot with bare Speedlight hand held with no stand or extra gear. Results coming soon on my Instagram. Thanks for tuning in Ryan 😁

A Cook Book for night photography! Thank you. It's getting so damn hot here, time to wait and shoot outside at night when hopefully it's a little cooler. Any suggestions for adding colored gel lights to the background, when the dark background is otherwise uninteresting? Or maybe that's the subject for another video?

Hi sir, I have a question, putting the bottom of the softbox on shoulder level, what is the intention and does it apply for full body portraits also?
@EliInfante
@EliInfante Месяц назад
It depends on the size of the modifier.

Why do you recommend shooting at high focal lengths?
@EliInfante
@EliInfante Месяц назад
I love the compression you get for night portraits. If you have a big city environment, a 35mm would be great too. I live in a small city, so we don’t have those cool opportunities.
@formaset

I also love shallow DOF but why always at 1.2? What bugs me is that, any aperture higher than f1.4 is not “professional”……….which is the opposite. F1.2 is over used and there are shots that shouldn’t… If people could go f 0.3 they would. You can have big bokeh even at f4 5.6 by placing the subject even closer, still full body at just 100 mm with a Macro lens and the image at that aperture is way sharper, corner to corner. In the movies, they never shoot at 1.2, 1.4. And I’ve seen people shooting headshots at f1.2. The ears and chest are severely out of focus, which is completely wrong. You have to shoot at f5.6, f8 and you still get a very blurry background. Again, subject distance in relation to the background. And not everything should be shot at that aperture. Group shots, is f10! And you still get background blur and everyone is in focus. I’m sure you know that but must people don’t.
@EliInfante
@EliInfante Месяц назад
If you've studied my work, you would know that I don't shoot f/1.2 very often. This was a rare instance in this video. I agree with everything you said, though ❤️

@EliInfante
@EliInfante Месяц назад
There were too many lights and it was bright 😢
@Strravaganza
@Strravaganza Месяц назад
@@EliInfante No, it's not the brightness of the lights, but the wrong shutter speed.
@Strravaganza
@Strravaganza Месяц назад
@@EliInfante A shutter speed of 1/160 would have completely saved the situation.
@EliInfante
@EliInfante Месяц назад
@@Strravaganza I didn’t want to expose for those lights or my background would have been all black. 😁
@Strravaganza
@Strravaganza Месяц назад
@@EliInfante It seems we don't understand each other. A faster shutter speed would have kept the arch lights bright and rich yellow, and would have removed the overexposure effect.
