Amber, it's good how you drew things together in this video. My own therapist does this. She is able to drill down by asking questions that are positively framed. Appreciate your work. ❤

Thank you Amber I will be going to see my son tomorrow and we have good communication for the most part . He is in active addiction and I have learned although very difficult how to stay patient and keep my conversation non judgmental and lower defensiveness . I walk a fine line because of the nature of my sons addiction and yet diplomacy under the circumstances . I struggle with if I am even approaching this in the best way . He has said he’s not ready to stop but I know the fears he has that go along with it so I am relating to him with other approaches and I guess in a way meeting him where he is at . I will continue to be an active listener and interject where I can that may spark his desire to seek help soon.

I feel for the guy speaking in this video. He's obviously not a good match for his room mates, maybe a more introverted personality type. I love how the quiet guy, who eats a granola bar rather than trying to navigate dinner with kids who are not his tribe considers himself to be the one with "social anxiety," rather than the room mates who are regularly intoxicated. Maybe, just maybe, they're intoxicated because they feel social anxiety too and have no idea how to BE social without a substance. To me, the speaker seems like the healthiest one in the room already. Funny how society skews these things. Still, you can only work on yourself I guess. 🤷‍♀️ Good on him for trying.

I like this. It'd be great to share. I'm not sure I'd pick up on everything he's doing without your commentary, but I'd love to be able to do this better. What a helpful skill to have.

I think social anxiety in young people stems from having been conditioned by a parent from a very early age to distrust and dislike people in general. A near incapacity for empathy. A parent who won’t even allow anyone to touch the child, even a grandparent. A parent who is overly critical of any words anyone other than them says to the child. A parent who has social anxiety themselves and has instilled the same fears in their child. Like they’re entitled to be intolerant.

My addiction started with legal drugs. I never had to buy crack, heroin, and ETC because my psych drugs worked for feeding my addiction. I eventually got off the benzo drugs. The gambling addiction, the video game addiction started, the little drinking I did on the medication because was more of a problem, but I knew if I started drinking, I was going to have a problem, but in summer of 2022. I was gonna buy anything. I didn't care if it was the Heroin, metafetmin. I was going there, and before I did. I got to AA.

Social anxiety can also occur in people who have not taken drugs. I used to suffer from it years and years ago in my teenage years, and I was not a user. Avoiding noisy or overstimulated friends, family members or people in general is a good choice. This young man is obviously aware he is different? I think being around these people can trigger the anxiety and even trauma? I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing for this young man who may be more studious and prefer to keep private, and read or play instruments in his room, more often than socialize. Restricting himself from getting food is def not good and he should really just try to find calmer people more like himself to live with because, no one should have to adapt to noisy(sometimes really obnoxious too?) lpeople and NOT eat. All too often we are looking for SIGNS OF CERTAIN PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES in people who are simply different and grew up differently. They might be a little shy and reserved and there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS! They may not be so confident but all this can be fixed over time. Just my opinion after going through life always thinking I should adjust to people when I now like who I am because I have a high respect for nature, peace and quiet, people, animals soft music and things that grow. I feel like TOO OFTEN we categorize people and put them in a Problem Box when they are just shy. To me it sounds like has suffered some kind of trauma and needs help overcoming it. It’s def not easy. Good interview 👍🏻

I lived close to the same symptoms you’ve described! I learned how to “Talk” to myself out of them.. The best thing that worked for ME was singing a song under my breath. I think because my breathing was stable while singing and I didn’t hyperventilate and it took my mind off my “feelings” as I was focusing on the lyrics of the song ! Still works for ME if I start getting anxious or a panic attack , but it’s very rare I get those anymore.. Thank God ! 🥰 Maybe you might want to try it 😘 Hope it helps ❤️
