Not breaking eye contact at all can be intimidating, so it's recommended to rather make eye contact around 80% of the time and casually looking elsewhere for 20% of the time.
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 7 лет назад
I would agree with this. Although it also depends if you're looking at a business partner or coworker, your partner, or just a friend.

@@Hazy4oo find an improv group to join! You can train your facial muscles and become more aware of your facial expression to soften it. It will take quite some years (I started acting in fourth grade and had drama class in 8th and 9th grade, have done HS/community theater plays) and I still struggle with eye contact, but yesterday I held eye contact with a random stranger for a solid 10 seconds. I definitely felt uncomfortable but she didn't look uncomfortable so that was weird but interesting.

I love your videos man. This was my first one but as someone who is in a sales type business with a mostly introverted personality, your tips are really helpful to me. Keep 'em coming!
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 8 лет назад
Thanks really appreciate that. Wait until I make videos on persuasion that specifically focuses on different personality types comes out. Different techniques, like if you watch my 25 cognitive bias videos work more effectively on different personality types. And the big thing a lot of sales people have difficulty with, is closing or persuading people with opposite personality types as them.
@Schpinki
@Schpinki 8 лет назад
Just curious, do you have a background in behavioral psychology or something similar? Is this a hobby or career for you? Info is fantastic and easily digestible so the time it must have taken to compile such info must have been significant.
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 8 лет назад
I have a major in psychology and computer science. So I've studied everything from social, neuro, cognitive and behavioral. While I don't have a career in psychology, it's my favourite subject. I'm also passionate about sales. Right now you can say this a hobby with a dream of it being a career someday.
@Schpinki
@Schpinki 8 лет назад
I'd say you're headed in the right direction and your degrees seem tailor made. I really appreciate the videos, great info and easy to digest format. Don't mind the minor criticisms, everyone has an opinion on the internet.
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 8 лет назад
I really appreciate your comment :) But I love the minor criticisms. You're watching my latest work. But if you look at my earlier videos, you'd see a big difference in quality. Criticism is what allows me to improve. I think the worst thing for a creator is to get no results and no feedback to draw from

There's many other factors involved when approaching someone. The situation, your body language, her mood, your angle of approach, tone voice how sincere you were, if you said a pre-frame or not and so on.

Gavin Hanson yeah, I wouldn't use that phrase again.. To ravish literally means to passionately make love to someone. It's a phrase for your partner, not good for an acquaintance you want to like you.

I think #29 is ironic. Doing that would actually make me feel fake, and if I saw someone else do that, I would feel as if they are fake.
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 7 лет назад
How would you know if a person doing it was faking it? People naturally do this all the time. There's often someone ina group we like more than the rest and are more happy to greet.

lmfao wtf are #29 and #30??? the rest are super good, thank you for the video. Personally I wouldn't compliment someone by changing the word, instead I think it's more charismatic to say it differently altogether.
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 7 лет назад
#29 is good when you're in an environment like in a party where you have to shake a lot of people's hands. Someone might notice you're just giving the same smile each time and might think it's fake. As for #30, the examples I used were the same from the book. The book is a little outdated, but I was hoping you get the concept :)

Positively Brainwashed ahhh thank you for noticing me ❤❤ and true, that makes more sense for 29, I remember times where my likes for someone decreased when I realized they were did the same thing to everyone else lol

I have an issue with talking to people and they NEVER reciprocate and ask about you...It gives me the impression that they don't like me , thus, I don't care to talk to them again. For instance I will talk to someone for ten minutes and they won't ask about how my summer was or what I did over the weekend. It's al ME, me me....

It's difficult to asses anything without me getting to know you. It could just be your environment and the types of people who live there. But one of the best things tips I've learned from my mentors is to occasionally ask people I know 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses about myself and to be honest. Most of the time, people will be very surprised with the weaknesses they hear.
@gedr7664
@gedr7664 8 лет назад
I find myself in the same situation, and honestly most of the time its because they are either socially inept, too self-centred or they just don't care about you. If they don't reciprocate your questions and it becomes a one sided conversation, make an excuse that you need to go and start talking to someone else. There is no point trying to become friends with someone who is not interested in you. If they are, they will talk to you in the future, but that is rare. You could also try to turn this into a game where you try to find out the most about the other person without disclosing anything about yourself, it's hilarious how much people are willing to talk about themselves, yet at the same time annoying/sad. Best of luck!

I agree most people you meet will mostly care about themselves. But I have grown to accept this over time and really don't let this ruin my life. Like you said, you can just move on to the next if they're being overly selfish. But I do believe in the law of average. If you keep meeting new people, you'll eventually meet others who'll respect you as their equal, or even look up to you.

the eye contact thing is so difficult for me to execute. I just can't keep eye contact for long at all and I find myself looking away so often whether I'm talking or listening. This leads to people assuming that I'm lying or I'm not interested but that isn't the case, I just find it extremely uncomfortable to look into someone's eyes for a certain amount of time, I mean, obviously I look into their eyes, yes but to keep that contact? I look away seconds after. This also applies to the close people within my circle. Can someone give me some advice on this? because I just don't get it
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 7 лет назад
Here a few simple tricks. First practice eye contact on yourself daily! Whenever you're brushing your teeth, look at your eyes for a few minutes. Then next start practicing on strangers when you walk by them. I'd add a smile as well. Start with a 0.5 seconds eye contact and smile, then slowly over time increase it. Then start practicing with real people and again start with just 0.5 second eye contacts and work your way up.

Positively Brainwashed thank you for replying so quickly, my gosh!haha I have no problem looking at myself tbh I do it all the time 😂 I'm super vain in that sense but to look into other peoples eyes for a certain period of time? I find too uncomfortable however the odd times that I do try my hardest to keep eye contact, I feel like I'm making awkward facials? idk. but the rest oof what you said, I'm totally going to give a try 😀 thanks so much!
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 7 лет назад
Fast replying is what I do 😊 Another thing is play around with distance. It's much easier to give eye contact the the further away you are.
@bodenkree7053
@bodenkree7053 7 лет назад
Positively Brainwashed Its a nice change lol ok but what about during situations such as interviews or meetings? things like this wouldn't give you much distance from the person you're speaking/listening to. Even things as simple as standing at the check out of a store (this is a prime example of my problem as it happens EVERY SINGLE TIME lol) I'm standing at a check out asking to buy something, for example making an order at a restaurant, the whole time I'm ordering, i, from start to finish, focus solely on the menu board (acting as if I'm reading out what I'm ordering which I'm usually not) that's just my defense as a means to not look at them. so how would one go about this when you don't have much of a distance between you and the person your talking/listening to? ps, sorry about the long replies
@PositivelyBrainwashed
@PositivelyBrainwashed 7 лет назад
Of course there are situations you can't stand far. I'm simply suggesting you come up with a progression to work your way towards giving eye contact at the proper distance and duration.
