How to Talk with Clinical Instructor so you Pass ... and your colleagues and team members when something does not feel right.
I am often surprised to learn from my nursing students that they struggled to feel safe in clinical, especially because I feel that I am a very supporting clinical instructor and a 100% student advocate and teacher. What they would always share at the end of clinical is they were worried I would fail them if they did not know something.
So in this video, I want to share with you three tips to help you approach your clinical instructor and see that the ways in which they interact with you are meant to help you trust your knowledge, skillset and intuition.
Plus - this method will have your clinical instructor beaming with pride as you demonstrate what it means to nurse within your scope and to your abilities :)
How to pass clinical in nursing school and get your nursing instructor to like you starts with knowing how to approach your clinical instructor about your issues.

Please make a video about how to put your clinical instructor in their place when their behavior is unprofessional.

Communication :) my favorite topic. It is about creating a safe place to share your concerns and needs. I created a second channel just for communication youtube.com/@tammydunnettleadership

I was very offended to find out my clinical instructor told my professor that I wasn't being compliant . She even went on to say that I made a comment about feeling like I was bugging the patient. I don't have a medical background and I was just sharing with her what I felt. For her to share that as a negative statement was crazy to me. That's like if I said I'm gonna k**l someone so in a "joking" way she would take that out of context as well and report it. I liked her but I don't know if I do now. She is shady X 100. I asked her 3 times to come and assist me with something . Every time I saw her, she was helping the same group of students with the same thing...clinical paper work. As soon as she finally gave me the time of day, here comes one if those same students she was just with for a long duration of time and SHE LITERALLY ALLOWED THE STUDENT TO INTERRUPT US AND SHE PROCEEDED TO HELP HER AGAIN!

Yes, I personally don’t accept those types of comments - and will stop instructors from sharing that info with me. I want both the student and instructor to form their own relationship

Someone is holding the key to the pass/fail decision. There is an investment,. If you fail, it means you lose all your investment. In North America, higher education is not publicly funded. However, compassionate care is part of healthcare education. I feel like these two approaches cannot align. I don`t think doctors or nurses (especially in capitalist countries like the USA) are doing what they do for the sake of some divine purposes. They probably do it for above-average income and a stable job. I think professionalism can also be defined as doing what you do for money. Healthcare professionals are not volunteers. But at some level, they are taught to be compassionate. The overall system is based on money but a doctor or nurse is a compassionate person. It seems very contradictory to me. Maybe, I am a communist :)

Someone always holds the key - that does not mean we can’t work with them. Whether its a teacher or your boss, we always have someone to report to who could “fire” us.
