I adopted a 'fearful' cat that was a 'fear biter'. I will never forget the day he gave me his belly. Now he gets up on the table and demands belly rubs. It is wonderful.
Too much theory. I just grab it and hug it. Even if they hissing, scratching, biting, I dont care. What can a kitten do? They are quickly understand the hierarchy if you are not wishy washy. They will calm in just minutes.
Definitely. I always hated cats and found a cat that was abandoned by his previous owners 2 years ago. He took awhile to warm up to me and now I love him to death. He completely trusts me now. I was originally trying to find a home for him but he really grew on me and now we're inseparable. I have a newfound appreciation for cats lol
My old dog tamed the wild kitten… It hated everyone but my old German shepherd.. but when Dakota passed away.. The cat got lonely. And she started to befriend us too. She’s a good cat now
@@mrifat13my cat that we've had since kittenhood, Khajiit, has mastered the art of cuteness. but the main issue is I keep petting and petting him and he just keeps meowing as if I can somehow pet him more than literally every second I'm with him. he keeps meowing that cute pathetic "you've neglected me for 80 years" meow and idk what more I can do?? giving him as much affection as humanly possible but he wants moooore WANTS MY SOUL
My cat fears everything and everyone. She always runs away and hides from guests. However once I carried her (against the poor thing's will) to a guest, made her sniff their hand, and suddenly she was chill. She has learned nothing though, unidentified human sounds still scare her and she won't have the courage to go check out the commotion let alone sniff anyone's hand
i let my domestic cats sniff my hand everyday i first put poop onto my hand then i wash off the poop but the scent is still on it and i shove my hand near their nose and make them sniff it, sometimes they lick it.
It's so wonderful! I got a feral when he was about 2 years old, and when I had him fixed and made him into a house cat, he purposely walked an inch away from my leg and refused to touch me. One day a few months after we were cohabitating, I was lying down for a nap and he had started lying down by my lower leg, which I hated, because I have restless legs. Out of the blue, he stood up and started walking towards my face. I was scared, but he wasn't in an attack position, so I just stayed put. He put his mouth to mine. Pulled away and did that two more times while the tears were running down my face. Then he turned around and walked back to my leg. He was asking for a little more time, but telling me he liked and trusted me. He passed at 21 years old.
Very different w/ an adult feral, just FYI, important for those that don’t know.💜🐱 Also generally good to be patient and let them settle and feel safe vs forcing things too fast. They learn to trust when not threatened.
Yeah with young kittens you can force your way in and imprint them on humans, adults you just gotta be chill and wait it out. However many years it takes.
I had a feral kitten once. Turned out to be a Canadian Lynx. We had him for 26 years. He was a sweet boy. His name was Wayne after The Great One, Wayne Gretsky. We weren't supposed to have him. We didn't have permits, but we loved him and he loved us. He was 40 lbs at one point.
Last time i had a feral kitty i just sat next to the food bowl, and let the kitty eat. It sniffed my hand, and rubbed against it. It helps when you have it shut in a room where it cant hide under anything, but have some stuff if it crawl inside. Like a cat tree. After about an hour the kitty got hungry enough to try to eat. Watched me almost the whole time, and i just sat there watching videos on youtube. The kitty ended up being with me for several years before i found its forever home.
My dad found a young feral cat sleeping in his garage. It wasn’t as wild as this one but wouldn’t let anyone near it for weeks. He would feed it and work on cars while the cat just hung around at a distance. It finally went in the house and she’s been around for 5 years now. She will only let a couple people pet her but seeing the progress and gaining her trust was pretty cool
Those first purrs are everything. There's a cat hoarder on my street who the authorities will unfortunately do nothing about, so I've rescued 4 feral kittens so far and TNR'd the mom. I'm mad at the apathy shown by the cops and animal control, but it's just so worth it when your spicy foster kitten purrs at your scritches for the very first time.
I had a stray kitten from the shelter, at first she was very scared and shy but literally not even an hour and she was already playing with toys and rubbing on me and purring
I also had feral cat, my dad brought him from his work because the kitten seem to stuck somewhere but never mind and he was scared at first till he scratch most of my feet but then at night he staring at my feet with big round black eye (which scared me thinking there is something that only they can see😂) because he felt guilty of doing that but I never care though at least he had loving home.. So after 5 damn long min he staring my feet he suddenly came up to me andd he become so clingy until now which I can't even had sometime to be alone like a child who always stuck with mama🥴.. But when others around which he doesn't know, he automatically attack them😭🤣even the innocence one💀he only make voice, purring or becoming clingy to me, my mom dad and lil bro😌others,, there would only had 2 choice..
My cat was an abandoned feral kitten. I just gave her total love, patience, let her have her space if she got nervous, for 10yrs she's been the sweetest gentle kitty
I believe talking to them softly also helps. So they get used to human voices and speech, and learn to associate it with safety and happy, positive experiences. You'd be surprised how well cats understand speech! My kitty actually started doing things I was trying to encourage her to do (like coming to me when called) when I started telling her "Good girl!" I never had to give her any treats or bribe her with playtime. I just told her she was a good kitty and gave her lots of pets.
Reminds me of my 2 rabbits. They were so scared at first. After a while they always ran to me. They even noticed when I came home and stood at the door before I entered. They follow me everywhere and sleep in my bed always. They will always be my little babies I will protect with all I have 😊❤
You are depressed, you say? Find a kitten and tame it. Spend your time and energy loving and caring for it and if you’ve done well, it’s will love you back. That’s true happiness :)
Yeah, about that It's not the same game with stray cat v'been feeding one since 2 years Still can't touch it So it just reinforces the idea that I will never be loved 🥲
please do not bring another living being in your life if you are not in the right headspace. if you cannot care for yourself you cannot sufficiently care for someone or something else alive. too many times we have had neglected cats, dogs, birds, etc. come into our shelters. these are living beings, not objects to play with
a good way to tell if a cat is too stressed to interact with is if they're panting. cats do rarely pant when it's hot, but more often panting is a sign of very acute stress in cats. if your feral kitten is panting make sure the area isn't too hot and give it some space :) this is a wonderful video
Tamed two feral kittens (7months) outside. It took half a year, but they started off by running away at the slightest sound and ended up discovering that receiving pets was something they could no longer live without. You'd never believe that they used to be so scared of me They're both still very much alive and I've been feeding them throughout the whole journey. They now sit on top of me and rest their heads on my hands until I pet them. Both are glued to me.
In my experience stray cats and abandoned dogs make the best pets. Once you prove your love for them overtime, they transform into the happiest, most loyal, most well behaved animals. I have a pit who spent her life in and out of shelters, getting adopted, being dropped back off, and when I first seen her she looked so sad, and it was literally heartbreaking. She was super anxious, super clingy, and was very bothersome at first, and really she still has her days, but she turned out to be the best dog I could of ever asked for. She still gets under my skin at least once a day, but she brings a smile to my face and warmth inside from every other moment. Except when she snores, no matter how hard I try, its extremely difficult to tolerate. Thank god that its not every night.
My pittie was clingy and anxious too. I'm so happy when he's brave enough to do something on his own now and when he cuddles me, its for love and not because he's terrified of the world. He's also comfortable enough to eat slow now, instead of gulping down every treat and meal in a panic. Life on the street is no life for those sweet pups
Reminds me of one of the dogs I used to have. He was a dog that presumably ran away from an abusive house and he decided to follow my uncle home during one of his morning jogs in the hills. He was very shy at first and my uncle asked if we wanted him so we said yes. That boy was so sweet, he used to run up to us and give us hugs. He was always extremely affectionate around me and when he got old, fat, and lazy he was perfectly content to laze around with me either on my bed or on the couch with me. I miss him very much but at 16 years I think he lived a very happy life with us.
I had a cat like that once. Over time we bonded so much. If I tried to lay down anywhere she'd come up and lay in my chest and wanted scratches. I miss her. She loves to be 19. She passed away back in 2018.
I have a feral kitten, he just followed me home one day. I spent a week fighting with this kitten, trying to return him his mother, he was persistent. After a week I looked at him, declared "fine you win". Loudest purr I have heard in a kitten. The whole high school was laughing at me warring with this kitten.
I had found a feral kitten once. On the verge of starving to death and weak. I fed her first then took it home. She instantly hid in the closet of my room. I put down food for her daily and a litter box which she took to right away. She slowly started emerging to explore, and came to understand she had nothing to fear. She was safe, fed, warm, and comfortable. Soon she was very playful and affectionate and no longer feral. I named her Tuesday because that's the day I found and rescued her.
You can just sit next to him and give him food with no touching or doing anything, and the next time you give him food you'll be able to touch him without him getting angry.
i got a kitten at night infront of my door, so i gave milk to her 😂 and after that she just wants pets and starts to move around me wants my attention 🤣 she was under my blanket I don't know how she came there 😂
I had a stray cat outside for a year. After feeding and watering her, i got her comfortable enough to let me pet her, then pick her up, and then for her to enter my home, then to interact with my current cats. Then one day i picked her up and took her inside. Shes now my little princess. Pink collar and all.
Once upon a time I had a group of foster kittens that were already six weeks old and they were very feral. I had as many friends as possible come over to socialize the kittens after the first few days when they started to get to trust me. The organization took them back 2 weeks later and they were all adopted. Socializing kittens text effort but it's very worth it.
I fostered feral cats for the SPCA for many years. You can't imagine the feeling when you've taken a cat that is scared of everything and everyone and has nothing to fear in its life show that trust and make them gentle weather feeling like that
Trust is everything. And that comes with kindness, gentleness, patience and love. Good job. God bless you for caring for one of God’s precious little creatures.❤❤❤❤
My feral kitten followed me a couple of kilometres home walking at my heel chatting most of the way, up the steps into my house, into the kitchen, and has never left! That was twelve years ago. Never hissed at me.
Obviously, be very careful. Don't just take some feral kitten home. Test it for diseases, don't handle it with your bare hands, treat it like you would any other wild animal rescue at first. And probably don't try this on an older cat, they'll have too much baggage at that point.
Tabbies are absolute cuddlebug sweethearts once they trust you My friend was babysitting her friends cat (little tabby, maybe a year old at most), and she warned me how she’d hiss and scratch and wasn’t very friendly I just told her “she will be when I meet her, don’t worry” About 10 minutes after meeting her I’m lying on the couch and the little one’s sleeping on my chest and purring up a storm
I just use a blinking technique to communicate with cats. This works on dogs too. It's a technique where you blink slowly. Blinking slowly is a sign of affection, even towards humans. So when you're blinking slowly, you're telling the cat that you're not a threat and you love them. You'll know that they love you back by slowly blinking towards you as well, but they may unfortunately blink just to get your attention and make you THINK that they love you, when they don't.
THANK YOU FOR THIS J RSRDRDRD OMG I know this isnt all of them but you're a life saver omfg 🙏 some of these are funny, they are not bad of course-- but these guys are so sassy sometimes 😭
Could be a week or two, to include all that's shown by this kitten. I was successful in rescuing a stray feral kitten that was persistently hiding under/in a car by lightly covering a cat carrier, with paté (finely ground) cat food inside, and my phone playing a momma cat calling for her kittens hidden inside. I had to watch from a distance and creep up as she began, then quickly close the door once she entered. It's now time for feeding.. then, cleaning. Not many videos showing all that goes into this so I've made some clips to edit together later. Right now, I feel like a tired new mama-- though I'm already loving her, my cat family of 3 is stabilized and enough so am hopeful to connect her to her furever home ❤
Omg thank you so much!!! Just got a cat and she won’t come out of her box, but so many videos, say to leave them alone… they need love! I’m gonna go pet my kitty in her box rn. Thank you!!!!
My kitty was found feral at 6 weeks. When my dad got first in line in front of 12 other people, he got to play with him first to see if he wanted to take him home. He said he knew it was our cat when it sprinted straight into the glass door. Getting him to warm up to people took a while, he would grab pieces of raw chicken off the counter when we were cooking and run into a different room, hissing if you got near him. It took a lot of work, but 8 years later he meows for attention, jumps on my bed to snuggle in the morning, and rolls on his back for belly scritches when he's relaxing and I walk up to him 😊
Letting them have everything they need in their own room and making sure they come in and out as they please or having a cat house and food bowls outside and a window open is always how I've made them feel comfortable and loved.
Yeah this tutorial is terrible, it’s pretty much harassing them until they are used to it, the best way to tame is treat taming, let them cool off for a couple days after capture then let them try a couple treats from a bowl, find their fav, then keep giving them that treat every day in the bowl, then take the treat away for a couple days, and reintroduce the treat but in your hand, and only ever let them eat it from your hand again, an animals desire for a favorite food will overcome almost any fear/trauma
When my sister caught a feral kitten, I wrapped ze bebe up in a fluffy towel, ignored her hissing, and tucked her into the big recliner chair next to me (so not entirely on my lap, but pretty much). My furry burrito and I then watched about 3-4 hours of CSI episodes together. By the time dinner came around, she was calm and happy to let me hold her 🥰 she was my kitty for years!!
