Loved this video. Perfect editing so it wasn't boring, but very informative. The fact that you can laugh while the horse is tryingto to bolt just shows the horse how relaxed you are. I used to chew gum to simulate the horse licking and chewing to relax.

Omg this is exactly the type of video I have been looking for. Simplifying the process of a green horse to trained. Please can you do morenof these videos, making them as short and watchable as possible, starting with a truely 100% green horse. Many other equine experts have videos of how to train difficult horses... But they always use trained horses in their videos. Also we want to see the transition progress
@HorsePerfect

i was amazed by your technique absolutely flawless, I don't expect I will ever need to tame wild horse but if for any reason i should ever find myself in a position where i night need to the only reason on earth that i might have a chance at being successful will be because of what i learned from you in this video. you probably would never guess how or what lead me to watching this. i ended up here because i had just finished watching the most ridiculous police stop video where this lady acted like for over 30 minutes as what i could only describe this lady as acting like a wild horse and i was looking for a word that had to do with taming a wild horse and i ended up here and i am so glad that i took the time to watch you perform like the master of your skill that you truly are! subscribed! you are awesome!

A truly unhandled horse will not stand calmly in a round yard waiting for instruction, it will be nervous, pacing challenging you, It won;t have been fed by hand or be used to people, it will see humans as a threat- sometimes i think people make it look way too easy, then you get people getting injured and horses being killed for being too crazy- I wish there were more videos like this of actual unhandled horses, This video is very good and shows the correct way to work a horse that has never been handled.

This was great to see. Thank you! I recently was asked to get recalcitrant horse to saddle. People don’t realize how much time that can take-depending on the animal. I’ve worked with reptiles for years, and there is some interesting overlap when it comes to them being prey animals that aren’t quick to be familiar with humans. Slow and consistent movements are your friends! Stay safe, and keep the videos coming. I just subbed. Cheers!

I ended up taking a horse in on trade that is a little more than I bargained for. Used for a broodmare for 9 years. No name. Very little handling. Then the people who got her from her breeder tried breaking her under saddle immediately. It set her back even further. Now I have a mare who is absolutely terrified of people and pretty much everything else she encounters. I just hope by watching these videos I can help her. I worry if I can’t she will end up being passed around or sent to slaughter. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I’ve just been working on touching and brushing her and she’s still terrified of me 😢

Hi Katherine, thanks for sharing your horses story! Sounds intense. I have recently been working with a very terrified wild horse and I can tell you he’s turned out amazing! It just takes so much time and patience and love! Keep working with her and building on each step. I would say the best advice would be to be as consistent as possible with her. Daily lessons are so much better than every other day or twice a week. Then you’ll see amazing results if you’re patient! Wish you all the best with her!

Good video, only but I’d advise I can give is to remember that the horse will feed off of your energy. There was a few moments when the horse would get tense and jumpy and I notice your body language get a little tense and nervous as well (which no one can blame you horses can be unpredictable) but the horse does notice and it can make them more nervous. I would just work a little bit on keeping your body language as relaxed as possible but really great job, subscribed!
@HorsePerfect
@HorsePerfect 2 года назад
Hi Katelynn, thanks for your comment! I see what you mean now! As I often deal with horses that can be quite dangerous I am usually quite ready to jump away quickly and that may be why I seem tense. Definitely agree that that could add to the horses overall uneasiness... I will try to keep that in mind for next time!

You are such a good teacher, with clear explanations and demonstrations without hiding the tough footage, that many videos do. I have a 4 year-old gelding that was most-likely abused previously and only ridden a couple of times for the sales video. He is mistrusting, skittish and dangerous when being tied up. He must have been sedated when I bought him. Yes, I am a novice and now I am learning to be a trainer. Hmmm. Any suggestions to gaining his confidence other than the obvious procedures of getting him used to being tied to a post or varying the routines when halterring time comes?

@AnnaMaria-zm8cv
@AnnaMaria-zm8cv 4 месяца назад
I have a 7 year old that had issues with haltering already as a foal. I think something went wrong with foaltraining and they never told me and he imprinted it very strong in his memory, because he is not at all aggressive and if I would say dangerous, no also not. Potentially yes, but he has no wish to harm anyone without a reason only he knows. He has gone through some training and only been ridden first time last year because he is so difficult with his fight or flight response. He keeps being a drama when trying to halter him, he will try to turn around and kick. We have been trying with lots of patience for weeks already, also having him go through these steps with the rope over his back, but he just doesnt want to be touched near his head and if I come in with the halter he moves away but his curiousity wins it. Not getting further than him putting his nose through it to get some food as reward every next step he doesnt allow no matter how calm or gentle I do it. Throwing ropes over him and touching him with a long whip is all fine. He now permanently wears a rope halter with a lead attached to it, so we can make working with him less stressful and occasionaly we put a regular halter on when he is in very submissive relaxed state which he doesnt like but we manage with some patience because we can control him with the leadrope. It is impossible and dangerous to just walk in his box to halter him, only a very few people with incredible experience handling all kind of horses can walk up and put a halter on without drama, like the person who moves him around between stables he manages to trailer load him in 5 minutes. Finaly it becomes easier to get him on a leadrope and if I practise with him in the ridinghall I can now do so without rope at all (but ever the halter on because he is incredible smart and knows exactly when we cannot get him so without a halter will be difficult to fetch him. Not impossible but takes time. Especially after making him move, he gets a total submissive horse (there is barely any dominance within him, he is overal a very sweet and calm natured horse that loves to be near humans just not being touched unless he is aware he cannot move away). Sometimes I can just grab his halter without leadrope and lead him to his box. I feel like he is putting a prank with us that he just tries to outsmart us. What would you do in such case? He seems very stuck in fight or flight mode (he would eventualy kick if he has no other choice to walk away) very easily triggered but at other times he is bombproof solid as a rock, also when someone rides him but he has only been ridden 2 or 3 times on a long line so hard to judge. Progress goes so slow and its so odd to see a complete wild horse doing more in an hour than he did in 7 years. Now the owner of the stable is working on him to get him laying down to trigger his worst fight or flight response he can go through. He has lots of experience with doing this so I trust him. He also gets vet checks for his eyes and teeth to see if this causes his anxiety to be touched on the head or haltered. But we all are a little concerned and wonder if he could talk what he would tell us that is bothering him. It seems to easy to halter train a horse, I have done before but with him is a whole new level. But man I love this horse and he enchants everybody. He'd be such a treasure once this halter issue is dealt with. I believe he will be at some point, if only we could find out what he is thinking the moment we bring up a halter.

Loved this! I just bought a 12-year-old mare with her two-year-old filly. Both are not halter trained. I can pet them a bit. Can you do this with two horses in the pen? My pen is about 60 feet by 80 feet. I would also like to say that I appreciate your way of teaching, I understand it, there are specific guidelines and no reading between the lines. Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for you kind comment! I would try to separate them first! I’ve had horses run into each other and die on the spot in a round pen before. Very tragic but avoidable if I had just separated them first.

I like what you're doing and the way you're doing it. If anything I'd go even slower.

I absolutely love his technique. I hate when people use lassos and think that leaving a horse tied up is the way to tame. That just leave a horse to think the rope is the boss

Yes you’re right. Ropes can be a temporary help but only briefly and they should always be soft and quick release!

Thank you Daniel for this video. Well, I do have some experience with horses but was not that easy at all. I bought a stallion 2 months ago who was very calm but not trained in this way, I am from Jordan, when I asked him to move in a similar ranch like yours, he was rearing and aggressive. Although I managed to make his feet move, but still he was reluctant stubborn ang aggressive rearing and kicking. HE EVEN SPOOKED ONCE WITH THE REIN BETWEEN MY FINGRES AND GOT 2 OF MY FINGRES BROKEN. Very serious, any advices?

Hi there brother, I wonder if you would like to video call with me so that we can talk about the problem? It sounds pretty crazy with your stallion! If that would help you I will send the link here for you to sign up. forms.gle/ZsYxcbKutecp2AAt7

I love this video. I am potentially getting an untamed pony who was used as a broodmare her whole life and is unhandled. I would love to utilize this type of training for her. Would you recommend placing a horse such as this in a working pen vs the pasture to start?

Thank you! Yes, the smaller the pen the better at first. The pen in my video is a little big but still works. I hope it goes well with your horse! 😊

i though that while training an animal, you would reward the animal at different stages with a treat, re a carrot .top marks to you 👏.. i'd be afraid to get into a pen with a horse so well done 👏
