In this video, I discuss how to teach a horse to come when called. This is a great skill to have to not only save time but also to build a stronger bond between you and your horse.
In this lesson, I worked with Harley who had never been taught how to come when called. I demonstrate his before and after the result and then go into a quick overview of the steps I did to achieve this. You can use the tips I showed to teach a horse to come to you by a hand signal, whistle, name, or anything else you choose.
In order to have success, it is important to understand how to lunge a horse, work in a round pen, and at liberty. I like to do these in a relaxed and gentle way where the horse is bonding and learning to focus on me. It's also important to have an understanding of the body language of your horse and how your body influences it. This can be taught to any horse, but remember it does take some repetition. Many horses will pick the cue up in just a few sessions and others may take several sessions over the course of a few months.
If you are a beginner learning how to get a horse to come to you I recommend working with a local professional. You also can submit a video if you like through my website 😊
I wish you success in teaching your horse to come to you! Feel Free to leave any questions :)

I’ve been working with a horse for about a year or so now and I’ve been given an offer to lease and maybe buy her in the future and if I can this is one of the things I’d love to teach to her, just to make it easier to catch her for lessons and training, and being able to get an anxious moody mare to walk to you on command would be fun to show off lol

@JSHorsemanship
@JSHorsemanship 3 года назад
Hi😊 There are a couple of reasons why you might be landing on the back of your saddle when posting the trot. One could be having a saddle that is not a good fit for you. Another thing that could cause you to hit the back of the saddle is if your not posting with a supportive thigh. Here are a couple of videos that may help👉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7EWUosIlXeg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D7MoDn6fucA.html

My horse will intermittently come to me off the lunge line willingly. Sometimes its easy and sometimes he fights it. I've been intermittently giving him a treat when he comes up to me in the pasture when called. It's got its benefits but also drawbacks.

@JSHorsemanship
@JSHorsemanship Год назад
Hi! It varies by horse and their degree of prior training and unique personality, but in general 3-4 sessions is a good start to see some progress. Some horses will learn quickly and others may take longer. I recommend working with an experienced trainer if you are a beginner. I am releasing some online courses soon as well that may help to go more in depth on subjects like this :)

All the people who think it's better to have to go out and catch your horse because they think it's some type of training and thinking its a cheat to have your horse come to you 😂 Like hun good luck catching your horse in pasture while there's a wild fire going on and your horse doesn't want to be caught. 💅 And if you think having to catch your horse in pasture is training than that really shows how much of a disconnect you have with your horse.
