Joined a week ago. Keeping all the emails until my kitty is old enough the train 😂. Been reading them all tho, and it’s so cool! Thank you! Also Mia looks so cute today (or whenever this was filmed)
Started clicker training a few weeks ago and thanks to your videos she’s learning so fast. Thank you so much!! We have fist bump, high-five, point targeting, sit and the beginnings of shoulder training since I met her 3 weeks ago. It’s a really awesome feeling! I just wanted to comment this into the void in the off chance you see this :) Thank you for your videos
There are many good alternatives! A word cue like "YES" or "GOOD" work well. Also snapping fingers it's an option. The only call out is that you have to be consistent with the noise, regardless of what it is, or the sound will be meaningless! I posted a video talking about this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2yjpGUfiXHw.html
i have a question. When you dont give food after asking something you've trained, my cat start to look at food then stop doing the thing i asked or become frustrated. Can you tell me why ?
Cats react to our commands because there's an expectation of a treat. If you never reward a behavior outside a training session, the expectation of a treat outside the training session is non-existant and thus, there's no motivation to comply. My recommendation is to reward intermitently outside sessions. Not always, but sometimes. This will increase the expectation. Intermitent reinforcement is a very strong motivator (think about gambling and casinos) hope this helps!

Is Mia a single cat? Asking because people go bananas when ever they see one. If Mia is a single cat, did you adopt her as a single kitten? Careful, people will go bezerk if so.
She is... I deal with these type of comments quite regularly, but I am aware of the benefits and the limitations and I assume the consequences :) I understand you have a single cat too?
@@OutdoorBengal Yes, a single cat. I am torn between following advice of random internet strangers echo chambers and my idea of training a single cat towards being able to go out with her. And then I see you. Perfectly trained cat. I can not imagine your cat suffering from too much boredom. And so I booked my self a call with a national cat therapist/expert from whom I hope to get proper advice.
I had my cat for a month now and I didn't want to make him spoiled and lazy and I always heard that that's just how cats are, you can't train a cat. I'm glad that I found your channle and I'm so excited to train my cat❤
I tried teaching my Bengal kitty to sit. But, every time I tried to give her a treat she bites my finger so hard! So after the 10th bite I gave up! Any tips? I need help.
I kind of touch this point in this video, never ever let the treat go. They will learn that that's not the way. If it's so painful that you can't hold it, yell and complain and stop the training session there and then (as soon as it happens).
My new kitten bites me all the time. I don't use a clicker but every time he does anything to hurt me, it is game over for a long time. If he is not hurting me, he is getting all the attention he wants, running around, snuggles, food, toys. As soon as my kitten hurts me one time, I just stop and move away and ignore him for a little while and then start again at square one. I also make everything I want my kitten to understand, to be a very fun experience. Scratching and biting me is never a nice experience. It means he gets no playtime and no attention.
I started teaching sit a few days ago and at first, she kept sitting but also putting her front paws up to get at my hand with the treat. But once I started promoting her from standing up higher, she understood it right away! Amazing!! Thank you Albert and Mia!
I recently adopted a cat, and I've been advised to give treats sparingly, about once a week, to ensure my cat's health in the long run. I'm eager to learn from your cat training videos and apply them to my own pet. I must say, I love your videos! Also, is using a app called dog clicker suitable for training my cat, as I don't have an actual clicker?

I have two kitties in the home, both females from the same litter, so same age. How do you go about training two cats at once? should they be separated or can it be done together? really appreciate your channel!
There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together: 1) Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings) 2) Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time) The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. You can lock yourself with the cat you are training instead of the cat that it's not trained. That makes the experience for the cat that's alone nicer.
This makes me a little sad. Training any animal requires time and love. Hating your cat and thinking it's dumb is probably not helping. What was your expectation when you got them?

You are not the first person to ask this! :) The cat harness that I use is very light yet escape-proof. It has a small chest pad to protect the cat when they pull and a self-restricting mechanism that gently snugs the cat when they try to slip out. The harness is available for sale on: amzn.to/42khwDA
I have a bengal savannah mix and I have successfully taught him to sit. Armani is 8 months old, but this beauty pees whoever he wants I have three meticulously clean boxes , he has no medical issues and there is no obvious reason Does it in front of me or not, no rhyme or reason. I’m so scared he will keep doing this and I simply cannot live with that His brother and sister were both returned to the rescue for the same reason Any advice?
@@OutdoorBengal it is definitely pee , he jumped in a beach bag looked right at me wiggled his butt and peed . I picked him up and took him to the litter box and he finished . It’s definitely not spraying, I did get a new kitten recently, whom he loves and plays with so I am perplexed.
i tend to give the same to my cat every meal. Are you thinking about giving your cat something different in the morning? What do you intend to achieve by doing so?
Would I be able to start clicker training, after I’ve started training him? He already knows several tricks, but I started before I learned about clicker training
@@OutdoorBengal I’m just using temptation treats, because they’re cheap but he’ll still work for them. Once he understands what I’m asking, he’ll usually do it if the treat is worth it 😂
I don’t have a specific method, I just try to show him what I want from him. Sometimes it’s successful and sometimes he doesn’t understand, but he’s much better at laying down, and shake and a few others, so I don’t always have to use both hands, I’m not really sure how to explain it
Sounds like your method is working so far if you have been able to teach laying down and shake! Congrats! The clicker helps a lot because it lets you mark the exact moment you want to reward.
Was the exact same for me. Find something you are good at, perfect it until people are willing to pay you for it, move out, start your life as you envision it ☺️ there’s time for everything
Hey Albert, how are you! I find that most critical part, where Jessy and I get stuck, is just finding a way to get her to do a motion or behavior for the very first time. You are addressing this here in your video with offering several ways that a cat might respond in trying to get her to sit. Can you tell me, do the cards really deal with this, or is it up to my ingenuity? I don't have the cards yet...I have been forking out $ for things that aren't that helpful. The book I bought leaves out what I consider to be the part I want help with. It tends to go like this: "click and treat once your cat has performed the behavior. Then repeat this about 10 times." Shoot! I need help figuring out how to get her there in the first place. I want to know a bit more about the cards before I spend more dough. What can you tell me? ❤
Hello! I try to offer as much context as possible on the cards but there’s only that much space. I’m working on videos like this one for every single trick and I’ll link the tricks to the cards once all the videos are done (not there yet). If you get stuck you can always shoot me a message and we can try to figure it out together, otherwise, you might just wait for the videos to come up! Good luck!
@@OutdoorBengal Hey! You MADE those cards? Wow, I"m impressed. I'll be getting some soon, though I know what you mean when you say a clicker and such are not necessary...Jessy and I are already a great team, and I agree that clicker training has really improved the bond that we have. Albert I know that what you are doing is important work, because it certainly has benefited me! Thanks! ❤
@@maryrawle7448 Thank you for letting me know. I really like what I do and when I receive messages like this one, I just get reassurance to continue doing it!
hi albert ! I received the cards, but I have a question. I wanted to try to begin with the trick « finger targetting » but my kitten (4 months) jump on my fingers so fast and hurts me. I think it'll be the same with all the other tricks that require you to hold a treat between your fingers. He bite my fingers and he digs his nails into my hand. So by reflex I'm forced to let go of the treat. Do you have any advice for me? He's not a violent cat at all, but when it comes to treats... he goes crazy 😂 Sorry if you've already mentioned this in a video, I'd enjoy watching it. Btw, the cards are amazing, I will leave a very good review 🥰
Hey! Its TOTALLY fair! You can use a target stick if you are getting hurt. The alternative is to trim the nails enough and hold onto the treat until they learn that that is not the way. The target stick we use is this one: amzn.to/3rypUSs
I have your cards and one of the sisters 1-1/2 years old, I've had for 9 months still wont come close regularly. Do you have any tricks to help a cat relax and come closer? One of my cats did learn to sit and she learned quickly 😊
There are a few things that you can do to get a cat to be more comfortable around you. Take a look at these 2 videos: - Get a cat to trust you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rRM1R8gPBfY.html - Get a cat to cuddle ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XD7cnmvlc3E.html
@@OutdoorBengal I think I've seen both of these videos before and I think one of my cats cuddle place is just going to be my bed. Cleo lays on top of my tummy and will sleep there and purse but outside of bed, forget about it! 😆 Sammy on the other hand likes it when I pet her in bed and outside of bed but she's not ready to cuddle yet but she sleeps on the bed. It'll just take time. I never ever punish. When I'm in the kitchen Sammy always lays close by and keeps me company and that's so lovely
I feed her raw treats, my cat Mia likes freezed dried chicken a lot: amzn.to/3FviIYa Try reading this article, I cover the topic in depth! www.outdoorbengal.com/blogs/clicker-training-cats/my-cat-doesnt-like-treats-train-a-cat-thats-not-food-motivated
interesting, i taught my baby to sit in a completely different way, i just keep treats on me at all times and when he did sit i combined it with the word and the finger, eventually my smart boy (same day actually) responded to the finger and the word, so i did it daily and eventually he internalised it and i started teaching him at 10 years of age, I figured it was easier for him to be taught like that based on how he learned other stuff automatically like jumping up surfaces when asked or coming when asked or coming for food or following when asked which all were unintentionally. he has now passed at almost 18 and my heart is broken but i cherish the moments we spent together and how we had fun training together. he sat before food every time and gave me a kiss before getting food. now im looking to provide a home for two shelter cats and to do it even more including leash walking and i have no idea how to train two cats at once or if they are even into it. EDIT: i started with a clicker but he was sensitive and hated the noise, i tried more than 10 different ones including a mere clicking pen but he hated all of them and it was too bulky for me too so i ended up using just my voice and it worked great for us
NICE! Some cats don't like clickers. Softer click usually helps! Our clicer is very quiet but some cats just prefere the voice command! keep it up, thanks for sharing!
@@OutdoorBengal as I mentioned he unfortunately passed away but I hope to continue training whichever new cat that I will share my life with in the future
how would you clicker train if you have two kittens? they are often around each other, so i wonder if they would be confused on what to do since they might hear the click from when im training the other cat, or will this not happen since i wont be giving him a treat only the one I am training at that time?
There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together: 1) Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings) 2) Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time) The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. @@OutdoorBengal That makes a lot of sense. If you do separate them would it be good to still have a separate clicker that makes a different sound or could you use the same clicker?
Stay is one of the hardest tricks to teach. I have a video about it, take a look, it might help! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bq0CDiAPFsI.html
