I Reckon you should do more videos like this, including common misprints or errors from the old days, that stuff is really interesting to people who collect, great video
Nice video. When seeing these fake LOB I'm always impressed how good of a job they did. If they adjusted a couple more things they would be almost undistinguishable from real cards. Most fake cards back in the day looked just ridiculous and could be identified from 10ft away.
It's funny how we've come full circle though, when I first got back into yugioh with a 10+ year gap and saw the shiny, glossier, almost platicy looking design of modern holo Yugioh cards they instantly reminded me of how the better looking old fakes looked :p
Idk if I should say this, but part of me misses these old fake cards. When I was a kid, I couldnt really afford the real thing, so we'd mix and match, playing with real and fake cards all the time. And these were the best kind! It really went to show just how mainstream YuGiOh was at the time. Obvs, it's mostly nostalgia, but I would also like to see the game flourish again for new generations to come.
Thanks for this video, when I was like 10 my mom bought me Yu-Gi-Oh cards from the supermarket and turns out 13 years later those were all fake. Luckily my brother and I played them pretty hard🤣
You don’t have to throw them away to get them out of circulation LOL you just don’t need to resell them and put them back in circulation. That’s like you throwing away a gun because you don’t want any more mass shootings. Just don’t commit a mass shooting with the gun lol
11 years ago I remember my brother and I had very different textured fake cards which was very cool back then... Now they are extremely rare. I still have like 400-450 saved and will never give them to anyone cuz it's my life
Another thing I noticed is that the font just doesn't look right, and I'm not talking about the ATK/DEF text/values. The name and textbox font is ever so slightly off, you wouldn't be able to tell from afar, but when you look up close or have it next to an authentic card, you can see where they didn't nail it. This is also a MAJOR step up to how bad fakes were in like the early 00's, I still remember picking up some fakes for the hell of it back in the day and laughing at the horrendous translations.
Question if you could answer would be great. Walmart sells LOB booster packs. The packs look exactly like the fakes you show here except they don’t say 1st edition. So are they fakes or legitimate reprints?
Is "first print run" a thing? I hear from various people that it IS and that it ISN'T a thing, two different angles. And by first-print run, I don't mean just "1st edition," I mean first-print run 1st edition vs. just 1st edition.
It's all speculation, but the theory is that the first print of 1st edition LOB is the wavy looking cards (holofoil is wavy) with lowered names on ultras and minimally glossy surface. They're also very dark. Second print (known also as glossy print) have flat foil instead of wavy, and the names on ultras are well-centered. We speculate the well centered, glossier, brighter print run is the second print run because it is much more refined
Dumb question but anyone know where I can get these fake boxes for a decent price? A friend and me wanna do an LOB booster box battle but we certainly aren't going to pay for an OG box just for a night of some beers and Yu-Gi-Oh. Or even just decently priced reprint boxes. I'm just getting back into the game after like 10 years out
Same man i'd love to crack one of these open just for fun. Im sure if you talked to the right people you could source who makes these fake boxes and order off them.
Hi Old School Expert; I recently bought some LODT packs which I think may be fake. The cards inside just don't look right. From the same seller, I also got some MFC packs which seem okay but I'm still skeptical. Can I send some extras to you for review/opening? Thanks for making this! I will definitely be vigilant if/when buying LOB singles (sealed product is too expensive haha). I had one kind of related question though - do you know the difference between American English and European English packs? I bought some sealed CRV packs and they looked a little funny so I was worried, but after doing a little research I determined that they might be European English?

Hey! I bought a 1st ed pack for my sealed collection but I'm having a hard time telling if its real. Could you help me? Everything looks right with what you just explained with the wavy seal on the back, the crimping, and his mouth, but it is a wide pack compared to my other 2002 1st ed packs. It is a 1st print run as well.
I don't get why you call these cards "fake". They look pretty much the same and it is not like only Konami can print them. They don't have some magical power that makes their printed paper better than others' printed paper. 😅 And yes I play yugi too but honestly if those are the kind of fake cards I get I couldn't care any less. It still looks really good and accurate and that is all that matters to me. 😁
hello. i have some lob 1st edition cards like "dark magician of chaos" in perfect condition but i dont exactly know where to look for their prices. i want to sell all my cards, but i know some are expensive but the sites are crap cause i saw your videos and you value them more. any help? i dont care if i sell a card that costs 500euros down to 400.
@@silveremperor1287 i used it but it lowballs the rare cards. for example it shows that the "dark magician of chaos" 1st edition ultra, perfect condition costs only 50 dollars, but i saw in videos that it costs about 400-500. so i dont know if its a good app...
