Thank you. I immediately wondered "well I thought meteors were made up of different elements. And not all elements are magnetic" Saved me alot of stress homie
98%of all metiorites will attract a weak magnet... refrigerator mag. Plastic...mines on a string - ...search for black glassy exterior , rounded - thumbprints - then density , iron nickel is heavy...then dots" chondrules".. size of a pencle eraser...if you score this far.. then test for magnetic ..to be sure .
I'm not an expert by any means but I'm pretty sure the only time a meteorite doesn't leave a streak is when it still has its fusion crust so to answer your question if any of the inside is exposed then that would leave a streak. especially if its starting to rust.
I found four that passed all of these tests but can't find a single geologist or organization that I can submit them to. I guess this like most other things is a gate kept field and you have to be in some sort of circle or group to get that. 😅
There is grading companies that will grade it seal it up in a case or box of some sort with the grading and certificate of authentication. Almost any grading company will grade and verify your meteorite I have had 6 graded and confirmed with certificates and now they are worth 300-1200 dollars each my most expensive one is worth 1200 after grading and least expensive is 300 after grading and rest fall in-between those numbers
doing test doesnt allways prove something is or isnt a meteorite.meteorites are different espically depending on the area they are found in and what they are composed of.
I found a meteor in the bay anybody wanna make me a offer on the possibility of being the new owner of a real meteor discovered in the north east coast of the United States of America
It can still streak if it's been on the ground for a long time. They won't streak when they are a new fall, but an ancient fall can leave a streak. It depends.
I have a metal meteorite it has an oxidized crust, and it has two chondrules that look just like meteorites i see everywhere online but mine is very shiny and very heavy for its weight it’s almost a pound but fits fine im the palm of my hand and i just did the toilet thing and like I thought it was lighter gray than pencil graphite so im losing my mind and my local planetarium doesn’t open for another couple days but last time i went there they told me it was a magnetite but mine is barely magnetic at all and doesn’t have a lot of rust or anything, im starting to think i have something special so i need a professional opinion
We recently cam across a quartz rock that’s what my rock app said but it stuck to my magnate and quartz isn’t magnet so now I’m stumped on this one. I’m looking for any answers.
