In this video I show you a few ways to tell if you have a real Impala SS. I didn't talk about any of the interior or exterior ways to tell so be on the look out for a part 2.
Thanks man the impala ss is just one of many GM cars that could easily be cloned to imitate the real deal and to an untrained eye the looks can be very deceiving.
G80 is the 3.08 rear end which is not only on the Impala. Caprice police 9C1 code. The 5.7L code is of course LT1. The only code that matters is WX3 for Impala. Make sure the trunk sticker has the same VIN as the dash tag.
you all prolly dont give a damn but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@Aryan Bradley Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hello. My name is RENNIE and I have a Dark Cherry (95) SS Impala, that I bought brand new in June of 95...(25) yrs. one owner! Good video only one problem in Ga. when they was cloning they was using all Tru SS Parts.. so if they taking genuine SS Parts Off a SS all the labels would make a clone look authentic.. you get what I'm saying.? Even if they swap Dashboards The clone now has SS credentials.!! Soo I studied body parts inside and out.!!That's what I looked at Caprice parts VS SS parts.!!!Saw one of the best clones ever being sold as a Tru SS.. Everyone was convinced it was an SS, seller included.Until I pointed out to them a Tru SS Has Rotors in the rear as well. Not no drums. Outside that quick observations it was finna be sold as an SS ...
Yeah some people take it to the extreme when cloning an SS. I know the one thing that can't be faked is when you go to title one. For example they may have the impala/ clone but the title will either be salvage, rebuilt, bonded, stolen or something. Other than trying to make a quick buck I don't see why someone would clone an impala other than for those reasons. So I would have to say that no matter how good the actual clone job is, the title and a car fax history report will prove it's authenticity or not.
@@AndersonMotorWorks mechanically yes, essentially no. The 9c1 was built for government and law enforcement use right? In which if you look at your trunk tag you will find the SEO option which means special equipment option. No impala ss will have SEO on the trunk tag. The impala ss was built for civilian use as you know. So at the end of the day they are similar mechanically but built for 2 different purposes my friend.
1996 Impala SS I know and understand what your saying but I was just speaking on some of the things that you spoke upon in you video you probably could’ve broke it down a little more for the people who are new or just don’t know the depths of it that’s all
Very informative video . Thank you sir. I'm finding my self very interested in the Caprice and Impala and been watching videos. This is a really good video
I've been looking for a 94-96 for sale there are so many caprice classics being sold as impalas some look like real impalas and you would never know until you look up the vin
Good video, but make no mistake about it, everything on a SS can be fitted on a Caprice. All the way from vin numbers to the rear end. It's actually impossible to know if someone takes the time and pay attention to the details.
True true but the vin Number is riveted in so a trained eye would be able to tell if it is the original untouched vin or not. I can't say the same for all... 1 more thing about the rear ends, yes the rear ends are interchangeable but the 3.08 rear end in a impala ss is wider than the 3.08 rear in the caprice. And even I never knew that until I had my rear end rebuilt recently. The axles in the impala rear end are longer than the ones in the caprice. And when I though about both cars stock for stock the stock wheels on a 9c1 caprice sit more inward and the ss would sit more outwards.... check out my rear end rebuild video cause I put both axles side by side standing straight up and the right axles were a little longer. I say the right axles, I accidentally bought the wrong ones that were for the caprice but summit's computer said that they would work lol...
@@1996impalass you're right about a lot of what you've written, but I've seen the entire dash taken from the SS and placed in the caprice, vin plate included, rear end exchanged, hood, trunk ,doors etc.
@@1996impalass what some people don't understand is the extreme difference the value is between these two cars. That's why some people go through such extremes to replicate an SS with the caprice
@@technicallyt2344 right, the are so many ways to clone one from the basic clone to a top notch job. I think now a day's there are really more 94 to 96 impala's than caprice's still in existence today. And I think the reason for that is people took more and better care of than them than the caprice. I see more impala's for sale than caprice's unless they are good examples of a clone lol...
Technically T That's what I'm saying too Fam... In Ga and Chicago they been cloning SS's and they don't play with the finish product.!! Have you fooled!!
Any B body GM full size car from 1994-1996 that came factory equipped with an LT-1 V8 will have a P in the 8th digit in the VIN number. Unless you've changed your motor to the LT-1
WA-U8555 is the color code on my 94 impala trunk tag and all the other numbers checked out, so I'm assuming that is the color code for black since black was the only color 94s came in. The vin on my title also matches the trunk tag vin. Thank's for the video. Brought me peace of mind knowing I got the real deal.
@@1996impalass i know right!? I just bought a '94 off some guy who didn't want to sell it, but just had a baby and was returning to school, so I offered him 5k cash in hand and he reluctantly accepted 🤣😂 he dropped down to his knees and hugged it and kissed it goodbye 😆 But yeah man I'd love to send you a picture of it, because I know you love these cars like me. 94 is supposedly the rarest one, I heard. Not many made that year
@@randallwellborn1046 that's what's up man, you'd never believe me, but I paid $1100 for mine lol. It just needed a little TLC is all. The way it was when I bought it is the the first vid of my channel. Most would have thought it was junk, but I saw gold, and it was running and driving. I had to do it man. And the rest is history. I'm looking for a DGGM 96. 94s are the rarest but I love the floor shifter and analog gauges.
@@1996impalass yeah it seems like the '96 is what everyone want's. I don't feel any less satisfied to have the '94, I found it by chance on Facebook marketplace after the ford police interceptor i was gonna get fell through. I was depressed about not being able to get the police interceptor, so i typed used car's on marketplace and the 94 was the first car to pop up. It was meant to be, because I originally wanted an Impala but i thought I'd never find one. 🙏
@@frankescobedo5073 I read about that all impalas from 94 to 96 were all built in Arlington Texas. Then they shut down the impala to build the SUVs there.
I know all of the exterior ways to disguise a Caprice to clone one into an Impala and in this video I did not talk about any of them. Most people will not even attempt to loan a Caprese from years 1991 through 1993 because of the Interior dashboard is made only different than the 1994 through 1996 Impala SS. Not saying that it can't be done because it can all you need is the dash panel from a 1994 through 1996 Caprice or an Impala no. And as far as the more pointy rear quarter window it can be taken out and a rear quarter window from a 94 through 96 Caprice or Impala will work in its place it would just require Bodywork to fill it in. Like I said I did not talk about any of the exterior ways to tell the difference between a capris and a real Impala SS.. In my video I talk about. In my video I talk about the 100% sure. In my video I talk about the 100% sure fire Waze to tell the difference. In my video I talk about the 100% sure fire Waze to tell the difference between. In my video I talk about the 100% sure fire Waze to tell the difference between. In my video I talk about the 100% sure fire ways to tell if the car you're in question about is really an Impala SS. If the car you may be in question about does not have the characteristics I listed in my video it is not a real Impala SS. The whole reason in this is because it is very easy to clone 1994 especially 1995 and 96 Caprice has to look exactly like Impala SS so the intent of the video is to show these absolute ways to determine but different. I will more than likely make a video talkin about all of the exterior and interior differences between the two.
Nice vid bro everything you named is very correct but I see you are going to always have ppl being negative keep up the good work I have one the same color check me out if you dont mind
That's what's up bro and thanks, now a day's the impala ss is becoming a dying breed over looked by the chargers and what not. I'm just keeping the ss alive. And I'll check you out bro bet.
Console shifter on 96, and analog gauges with a tach, and OBD II system, with Dexcool antifreeze. You can tell those by the pink label on the coolant tank cap. And ofcourse the door mirrors are noticeably different on 94s.
wha do you mean "REAL" impala? are there phony ones? I have a 95 taking up space in my garage that I want to get rid of, but it came new from the dealership as a company lease when my Dad worked for them driving company big wigs around town when they came to visit from Japan. He bought the car himself when the lease was up since he was pretty much the only one to use it for the lease period anyway. Is there any reason this wouldn't be a "real" impala ss? the vin number and reg says thats what it is... f
As a matter of fact there are phony ones out there, there simply caprices made to look like an impala. I'd love to take the one you have taking up space in your garage though. How much do you want for it?
I look at my VIN number and it has that p like you said but when I opened my trunk they covered up that tag with the Dyno rap (for the beat) so my question is this where else can i find that wx-3 /codes
Numbers never lie man. And it's simple to make a caprice look exactly like an impala ss and not be a real impala ss. My video was made to show you the impala ss only identification #. I see that you don't get it though
@Jane Anderson No it’s not simple to tell the difference. It is now if the narrator just simplified it for ppl who want to buy one, got ripped off, or know for a fact they sitting on the golden egg.
I used this video today while I was checking out a 96 impala and it all added up to being the real deal 👍 what do you think would be a good price to pay for a car with 194xxx miles on it
It depends on the condition, if it needs some TLC you should try to get it for as cheap as possible and then the miles are high. If it's in exceptional condition with high miles I would still stay as low as you can. $4000 would be my max price.
Alright let's just get this straight GM produce a lot of vehicles with the P code Caprice comes with two types of w code and also p code Buick Roadmaster Cadillac Fleetwood and also the SS Impala I owned every last and one of these types of these vehicles more than once the years are ranger from 94 through 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
It ties in to the WX3 RPO code. That was the main thing that seperated an Impala SS from a Caprice Classic. You could have a Caprice with an LT1 (the wagons only had that engine), posi traction (if I recall, it was part of the towing package) and i think the 9C1's had rear disc brakes as well but WX3 is the main distinction, same way "9C1" is an RPO code for "police package". Look at it this way. "P71" means "Police Interceptor" for Ford Crown Victorias but theyre still crown vics even though Ford calls them "Police Interceptor". It stands true today with the Taurus and Explorer.
Also the lights have black stripes across the top when you open the hood. Black label lights are black strip lights is what people like to call them. The capris did not come with that.
Here is a good link to look up those codes (RPO). I did not know that those cars only had a 3.08 gear ratio the back. www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/More_GM_RPO_codes
Thanks man and they are really awesome cars that seem like people are slowly forgetting about. And there aren't many impala ss's on you tube either. But I won't let them be forgotten
I know for a fact that even the police package caprice from 1994 to 1996 had the letter P in the eighth digit of the vin # verifying that it came equipped with the 5.7L LT1. And on the trunk tag they will have 9C1 somewhere on it to show that it was a police package. Some of them also came equipped with the G80 rear end.
@@kirwankars8597 I knew the 94-96 9c1 came with either the 4.3L L99 265ci v8 or the 5.7L LT1 350ci v8. I don't know about the 92-93 taxi cab and v6 thing. As most taxi's were retired 9c1's. I've only knew of the 91-93 caprice to have the 5.0L tbi 305ci v8 (civilian model) or the 5.7L tbi 350ci v8 (police package) only. Not a v6.
@@kirwankars8597 ok, I also knew also they put the 4.3L tbi v6 in the 89-90 caprice, just didn't know about them in the B body cars as I've never seen one lol.
VIN does not tell you if it's got the Impala SS trim package. It's actually still a Caprice, btw. A WX3 Impala SS, is a trim package of the 94-96 Caprice.
I never said the Vin says if the car has the impala ss trim package. I said the 8th digit of the VIN tells what engine the car came with. The WX3 is specific to the impala ss only.
VIN doesn't confirm the Impala SS trim package option of the Caprice. It only tells if it a Caprice Classic or base, LT1 or L99, and year it was built.
i bought a 1996 black with 30k and i paid $16k. ive seen some with less than 5k go for over $30k. in a year and a half these cars will be 25 years old and they will be classics. i now have 65k on mines and i wont take less than 15k for it if i ever sold it but i dont want to sell it. i will own it til the day i die.
You just saved me , the 8th digit was a W on a clone the guy kept saying he will give me a bill of sale no title thanks man , you gave some good information
No problem man, the 95 and 96 Caprices are the easiest to make an Impala SS clone especially if it have the grey interior. The W you seen in the eighth digit was the 4.3L, engine code is L99 if it was a 95 or 96 year model.
@@96Impala I'm glad that didn't happen man. The next cars that will start being cloned are the Chargers and Challenges. There will be plenty of Scat Pack clones. Some of the differences between both cars are the bumpers, hood, and rims but is really all it take to fool the untrained eye.
