Basically what happened was: -The plane was too high of an altitude for the landing so to keep in formation, the captain increased the speed to descend faster -The plane was going at over 70 knots faster than it should’ve -Captain told the first officer to extend flaps to 15 but the plane was going too fast and the first officer could only safely extend the flaps to 5 -The first officer realized how dangerous the landing would be and told the captain several times to go-around -Captain was too transfixed on the landing, and didn’t listen to the first officer, nor to the GPWS -The plane landed on the runway 800 meters in -Plane was going too fast and there wasn’t enough runway left to stop in time -The nose landing gear collapsed due to the stress and the plane crashed through a fence, ending up deep in a rice field.

I didn't know Garuda Indonesia and Indonesian Towers only hired accent free US citizens with asian descent.

That was more of a crash landing than a bumpy one

I didn’t know planes were bouncy.

The thing with commercial pilots in Indonesia is that power distance between captain and first officer is so large that first officers don't have the courage to disagree with all captain's decisions. Generally, first officers will not express their opinions during flight unless the captain asked them for it. In short, should a captain make a mistake in a flight then no FO will speak to the captain to correct his/her mistake.

Well there I was on some fine sunday afternoon just me and my airplane on a little airpot we've never been to before. We're on short final and nothing was looking right. I was seeing red over red, white over white and I couldn't seem to remember how that saying went anyway but I was staring straight down at the runway and all I could think of was about setting myself up to ungraciously dismantle this perfectly good little airplane. And, and then off in the distance I heard a voice and I think it was that of my flight instructor saying "You can always go around".

I get that way, too, when I am laying in bed and hear the most subtle of hints of my cat about to hack up a hairball on my sheets. I was on a flight that was quite similar to this and we ended up scraping the nose on the runway and the airport didn’t have the extending terminals so we had to get off on the actual runway anyways. We bounced too.
