they’re too proper and dont like to poop where/when they sleep. they build it up for 8hrs (or how long they sleep) and obviously have to let something out.
I learned about morning poop in birbs when i was caring for a little fledgling robin, about the size of a golf ball and weighed just 40 grams. I went to check on him in the morning, gave him some pats, and he climbed on my finger. Sounds normal, until he took the biggest sh*t to body ratio I’ve ever seen. Out of curiosity I took the paper towel with the poop and weighed it. Fourteen.Point.Five.Grams. This little dude shat roughly half his body weight. I was impressed.
This was such an informative video. I watched this when I was concerned about my bird and because of it. I brought her into the hospital and we ended up losing her so thank you for helping me realise that she was suffering.
Thank you for giving us this information. It's very important to be able to "catch" it before it's too late, as rare as that is. Give your birbs scratches for me! 💖💖💖
This has been so helpful! Especially the part about only having urine/mostly urine. I've had my conures for a little over a month and sometimes their poops are mostly urine and I've been worried that they were sick or getting sick since googling didn't give me anything. The air is quite dry so they drink a lot and get a lot of veggies so I assume that's the reason why their poops are sometimes only/mostly urine! Thank you for the video!
I had to put down my conure about a year ago, He suddenly got sick and progressively got worse, I searched for an avian vet but there was none in my area, I went to a regular vet as they were the only ones that would take my conure. They checked him out and told me he was fine and charged me $400, I had to put him down 2 days later because he couldn’t walk or eat anymore and I did not want him to suffer any more it was devastating for me.
I know how it feels to lose a bird and the vets didnt do anything Mine recently died from an illness I have another bird i got 3 weeks ago and im desperate to know if he is sick now Thats why i came here He stays with his wings down a bit and he stays with his mouth opened but no sound We got him very healthy from a well known good breeder But im scared he is sick now He is a couple months old And thats why im scared now
@@moofie8273 its very scary if you have no one to help around you, i was desperate and went to anyone who could take him, try to find an exotic vet or avian vet, and let them know that there IS something wrong with your bird
Great video, I can see that you did a lot of research. My budgie Dollie died a few months ago after she lived with us for 12 years. We immediately noticed something was wrong; she was silent, she sat with 'wide' feathers (don't know the english expression for this sorry, but i hope you get what i mean), she was less active than normal and at times she would make gagging movements. I knew something was wrong and called the vet. They told me to wait it out for a night, as birds can also have a cold and she might get better. The next day she was not better at all, she was even sitting on the floor of the cage and couldnt sit upright anymore. It broke my heart. We went to the vet and got some medicine for lung parasites. The meds made her lively again at first, but over the course of a few weeks this cycle repeated itself and we knew we could not save her anymore. I guess I just wanted to say that when you spend a lot of time with your birds, you will notice if something is off. Just make sure to call the vet, you know your bird and you will often be right.
What kind of avian vet would tell you to wait a night?! That's terrible!! I'm so sorry to hear that. Action should have been taken by the vet as soon as you told them. Even if it had not helped I know for a fact that one extra night certainly didn't either. Poor bird and poor owner I'm so sorry you went through that 😥
@@funkyfreakyandfabulous9743 yes I dit not expect that advice either.. she also did not do any tests except feeling the crop and immediately gave medication. The next week I went to another vet further away and he actually did do tests (but it was still unclear what the problem was). In the end I think she was mainly just a bit old. 12, nearly 13 years old is quite old for a budgie I read.
@@astridvanderniet1753 I hope the avian vet near my house is reliable. I'm getting a conure soon and I'd hate to have to go further in an emergency. I'd also hate to take my bird to an unreliable vet in an emergency. I tend to be not very forthright or adamant in situations like those because I assume I don't know how they should do their job and they do. I'll have to practice demanding proper care. I WON'T let your budgie have died in vain
@@funkyfreakyandfabulous9743 when are you getting your conure? When watching all of these bird videos for the last few months I also decided to get one. I might get to pick up mine the coming weekend :D I am absolutely stoked to meet my new friend.
I don't know how I didn't find your video when looking for videos on bird poop! I think yours is the only video I've found that has actual pictures of the poop. I've been so confused on what a "black tarry" poop should look like. This has been insanely helpful. Thank you so much!
My cockatiel passed out today, peacefully in my hand. Right from the moment, I noticed that she refused to eat, being quiet, sat sadly on the floor, not being able to balance herself on the perch, I knew that she was sick. I got her medicine (for common sickness in birds) and kept her warm with a heating bulb - sadly I had to cure her this way because my city is lock-down and no avian vets are opened nor anyone can go out. She got well after a night, she craved food, flew around, chirped loudly, being extremely affectionate, played with her mate, acted completely as normal. 3 days after that - she got sick again, and this time things didn't end well... She couldn't eat, couldn't even walk toward the warmth from the heating bulb... I still cannot figure out the cause of her death. My heart is broken into pieces . . .
@@stefigachadimova7479 wrong, go to an avian vet not a regular vet because an avian vet knows all the common sicknesses for birds which might not be for regular vets. If you have experience with avian vets, then you probably got a lazy vet, other than that, avian vets are the best.
thank you for this!! its still super hard to tell if my bird is sick as my bird's poop really changes everyday :( and I freak out over every little change haha. recently it has become more watery but I do notice my bird drinking more water as weather has been hot. But also sometimes the poop sticks to its butt feathers which I read could mean its on a heavy seed diet...but its not :/ I'll just bring it to the vet and hope its okay
Thank you for this video! I'm a new bird owner and all is just fine. However, knowing a little more of what to look for is always a good thing... And I love my bird! Thank you again!
Ur videos are amazing! :) especially for beginners and those who needs a refresher course. I wished i came across your channel when i was new to the scene. Keep it up!
my bird eyes are usually closed but he has energy but when hes eyes are open he seems okay but he just closes his eyes an lay and be fluffy is he okay im so worried 😢💔
My bird died three hours ago .Weont know how she was healthy an hour back she died of choking we think she died before we could take her anywhere .And what makes it worse is it's my birthday and my pet died .
Everything is good with my parrot but she does sleep some hours everyday with half closed eyes however she has a good posture while resting. She's very energetic in the morning and even after lunch. For the past few years that I habe her she's been healthy so I don't think I should worry. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for this! I just got a rescued cockatiel and was worried about his watery poop, but now it makes sense since he was drinking water but wasn't eating enough due to a diet change.
When you see small changes in your bird like they act differently then I’m so glad bird videos like this exists. My caique mochi is a ahole and just turned 1 yesterday and all of a sudden he’s not biting and not noisey when I get up to make breakfast. And I’m like…Um?. So I’m glad that it has nothing to do with his poop but I’m still at a loss on why he is acting like this? He’s out of the cage often and has plenty of attention. Is it because he going through hormones or because he’s a baby?.
Thanks for the info! I really want a pet (hopefully a spangle cockatiel but I'll be happy with any birb) and my parents agree if I show that I'm responsible enough during 2 months so I'm keeping a journal with lots of bird info (I have to translate it to Spanish tho) your channel is really helpful! Tysm!
Another great video! I know this is the sort of stuff that took me a while to learn when I was a new bird owner. Would love to hear about your experience with your avian vet and finding a good one. I haven’t found one I’ve liked in my area yet (most of them are general “exotic and avian” vets and the last one I took Callie too broke a ton of her blood feathers while she was doing an exam of her wing!!! AND the vet apparently had the proper avian certification..... ugh anyway it was so scarring for both of us 😭) tips of what to look for and what questions to ask the vet to make sure they know what they are doing would be helpful 🙂
Very good video Though I do think that weighing once a month is wayyy too sparse Couple of times a week would be recommended and the best would be if weighted daily
Pretty much why I stopped using bedding for bird cages and just went with paper towels; much easier to actually see the poop and keep track of their health that way.
My dear cockatiel passed away from lung cancer. That means no poop problem, no weigh loss but a Sligh sound when breathing without any tail bobbing at first. We supposed it might have been aspergillosis at first. Didn't see anything on the radio so she got a 2 months antibiotics and antifungal treatment which seemed to have worked at that moment. Then, two months later it started again. This time I decided to put her under anesthesia to do a scanner and blood work. So yeah. 2/3 of her lungs and air sacs were getting eaten up by the tumors and a month after doing the exams I had to let her leave. I miss you little bird May what happened to you help others to know what's going on with their birdie to have more time to say goodbye than what I had with you.
My cockatiel just switched to Harrison’s pellets and dr Harvey’s cockatiel seed mix recently and her poo has a bit of an odor when it’s super fresh, I’m concerned because I’ve never experienced this 😥she’s been acting totally normal preening eating and drinking normally, I’m really worried about her 😢 UPDATE: i stopped feeding her the harrisons pellets and dr harveys seeds, i had a big bag of tops pellets laying around and fed her that, im not sure what was going on but the odor in her droppings stopped after i stopped feeding her harrisons and dr harveys seeds, i will be continuing to feed her tops instead of harrisons. im glad i caught that before something really bad could have happend, nonetheless i still plan to schedule a appointment with the vet and get some tests done just to make sure shes actually okay
My bird is sleeping throughout most of the day, constantly closes its eyes, stays at its food bowl, and the poop is all wormy and lacks the white stuff when its poop wasn't like that yesterday. What could be wrong?
Hey love ur vids ❤️! I’m getting a puppy soon and it’s going to grow to be a big dog like the one you have I’m scared it won’t like my bird did you do anything to make sure they got along ?
So i got a peach-faced lovebird that's a little over 6 months now and every since he came to us he's been acting a bit strange. He's been getting really frustrated and when he does he starts choking and needs help to puke his food out which also never helps cause he just keeps flapping his wings, running around and choking. We thought that maybe the sunflower seeds were too big for him and he might be choking on those so we stopped giving them to him but it didn't stop. This month we thought that maybe it was getting better but these past days it only got worse and worse so we finally took him to vet. She listened to how he was breathing and said he was fine. I know he's not so we showed her one of the videos where he obviously was choking and getting frustrated over it and all she said was "Oh he's just playing". I don't know what else to do. I know I'm not overreacting and vet was my last option. It will only keep happening but apparently he's "fine". Anyone knows what could be wrong with him and any tips on what to do now?
I was wondering because my bird was laying on the floor with his belly down and we were worried if he was ok he was also letting us pet him which is unusual for him because he Doesn’t like us petting him. Any suggestions of what to do to make him be more happier and active?
Im quite worried about one of my lovebirds since i never really heared him making any sounds besides a kind of whispering or hissing. Sometimes he also moves his head and crop weirdly like hes either catching air or trying to swallow something. They are still very young (about 22 weeks now) and i don't know if its due to his young age or a disease😟
my quaker parakeet started to poop, poops with about 2 or 3 bubbles in it im worried because it accidentally ate a tiny piece of chocolate it was barely the size of a seed but i am still worried should i be scared or is it fine. Edit: I went to the vet and turns out it’s fine
My bird sneezed on my neck , I tried to make an appointment for her. The appointment was 2 to 3 out $120.00 to reserve the appointment she died a week and a half later.
I have a parakeet, and he has dark green poops when he freshly poops, but when it dries or I’m not looking it’s black poop that’s dried with a little bit of white is that normal?
Real question is how to lern a bird to poo in bathroom and not on my room everywhere, my budgie fly around and leave atombombs everywhere love to poo one me and then leave for no reason. Sitting on my right shoulder and poo and move to left and wait for another poo time and then leave me
It’s too late for him. His final hours have struck. I’ve spent nine years taking care of this boy and growing up with him. I’m going to miss him, and I’m going to leave this comment to remember the past.
Hey I have a couples questions about the same bird I have green cheek conure or yellow sided I have a couple pictures I need really help I when to the doctor 👩⚕️ she gave meds 2 times a Day
