This channel has contributed the most towards my improvement out of the numerous poker strategy channels I've found. I used to avoid playing against the small fields full of regs during non-peak hours, but now, that has become my favorite time to play. I'm eager to learn more, so keep the quality content rolling. The strategies and tips are much appreciated good sir!

I agree. After seeing this channel, and doing the run it once course by him, it has improved my play massively. I am not saying I was the greatest player ever, I was at best a shitreg or competent fish before, but now I am starting to see improvements as I work on my game.

Shortly after watching this, I flatted a UTG open from a 9 VPIP nit on the button with 9c9h. Flop is K47 with two diamonds. Based on the fact that my opponent is a nit, I reason that he will never barrel the turn with worse than a king. He half-pots, I call; turn is Kc, putting up a second flush draw. He checks, I b35, reasoning he will never bluff-raise me because he is a nit; he will fold all unpaired hands that are not flush draws, and call with all flush draws and unimproved pocket pairs, which is most of his range now. I chose this sizing because I expect he might fold such hands out of position on a paired board if I go larger and I do not want that. He calls. River is the 9s so I boat up. He instantly checks. At this point, normally I would have b75, targeting something like 88 (gotta rep that I'm protecting my hand because they never fold) but this time because of your teachings I went into my time bank and overbet 1.5x pot, 300 milliseconds before timing out. He snaps with JJ in disgust. This was so dirty I had to take a shower afterwards. Truly you are among the greatest Scottish poker educators right along with Charlie Carrel, Ginge Poker, and Edward the Longshanks.

I think it's very relevant whether the IP player three-barrels or two barrels on the K66r board. Lots of recreationals, even if they are very spewey and loose, still won't have three barrels as bluffs and just give up all their air on the river and do things like check back some clear value bets. 3:47
@mcpartridgeboy

@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker Год назад
I think most people who are multi-tabling (which is almost every reg btw) are able to allocate their time and focus to a spot where they have the nuts on the river facing an overbet.
@bslay4r
@bslay4r Год назад
There is a guy on yt who "specializes" in red line winnings (high stakes player and based on his graphs and play&explain videos he is really crushing) and in his mind snapcalls by villain (mostly fishes) are weak and a "green light" so to speak to bluff vs villain. :D And it works in his videos. So it seems we can't generalize based on just timing tells. Btw he would play the QQ on AJ3 3bet pot oop differently at 8:29. He would say I don't want to bet QQ on this flop because if I bet and villain calls I can't bluffcatch later because I block bluffs so I let villain to bluff with his unfiltered range (56s, 22, KT, etc) and decide later but the end result would be probably the same.
@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker Год назад
I think snap calls really depend on the spot. I was thinking about a low SPR situation where a fish has say 50bb and snaps a turn c-bet. I think these are dreadful spots to bluff river. A fish snapping a small c-bet on the other hand is not the same thing at all.

hey pete at 3:44 in the TT hand i would disaggre with your take on calling down. for sure hes probably way to loose wich shifts his range to be more bluffheavy but stabbing into 2 people on the flop and barreling trough is in my opinion so heavy underbluffed espacially since there are no natural draws on the flop i feel like hes giving river up a lot and valuebetting there 90%+
@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker Год назад
I think you're underestimating the effect of arriving on the river with loads of hands you shouldn't have. Even if there is a significant give up frequency, if the value range is quite combinatrocially small, then it is quite easy to bluff more than 25% of the time if Villain makes another half pot bet.

That extreme waiting must be a bluff with some sort of show down value. With the nuts you want to put your money in faster Just in case internet breaks down
@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker Год назад
Yeah I honestly think the fear of brokwn internet is a huge thing here. Imagine waiting to one second and then timing out accidentally. This is enough to discourage most players from doing this with the nuts.

3:39 sure you're not falling into the gto cave here? Would think triple X down range is too weak to call enough on the river , would bluff 6 hi pure here

Nah this is an underfolded spot vs regs. It's also incredibly easy to overbluff and most competent players know that.
@jacob9744

just want to say nice video, the last hand timing tell does not happen too often, but I dont think the tell is a slam dunk reliable one. I am guilty of sometimes waiting till the last second to jam my value hand just to throw my opponent off. More often than not I do get a call
@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker Год назад
Thanks Jacob. I agree where people time down to 3 seconds or 2; but to time all the way to absolute zero? I don't buy this is a value bet in many cases at all.

@CarrotCornerPoker
@CarrotCornerPoker Год назад
After thinking about it more I think I would have called river even without the timing. It has nothing to do with draws missing though. I think the reason I'd call anyway is that KT is just too likely to raise turn vs my sizing if it doesn't bet flop in the first place.
@ScottHedley

@@CarrotCornerPoker Very good point about IP raising turned straights at high frequency. Most will bet KT OTF at high frequency too, as part of a more polar betting strat on Q97tt.

Carrot, before I see what opponent I’ve been using the time bank run out for a long time as a reverse tell. Tank till the last second and then all in. My Against thinking players they usually think that you wouldn’t risk having a nutted hand being folded by letting the time bank run out, then they tend to call down a lot wider. I usually only do this once in a while against a player who I have no history with, as I’m usually gonna show up with the goods when I do this, I might do it as a bluff only if I have ran this line on a certain opponent and they saw that it was a false tell.

In your hand where Joe bluffed ThTs, I found myself immediately mistakenly saying he had the wrong suits... I know you and Melissa talked about this thought process error in a previous pod: You as BB are shutting down with missed Tx FDs which means your overbet bluffs will contain more Tc/ Td combos which means IP will have more river fold equity when they 2Bet allin ThTs (*when they time their bet appropriately lol). ^I'm mostly writing this for me so I stop making my initial thought process error. Thank you Pete for all the work you do! I just finished Lecture 7 of CPS Grade 1 and am really loving the format with the homework assignments at the end of each lecture to get me to immediately apply the learned concepts. Cheers!
