The best way to test a CAN bus network is using an oscilloscope. You can scope the bus network and determine if the network is active or Shorted. Depending on the waveform you get, you can determine what type of short the network has.

GM have individual can networks. For example you have can three can for can five and so on. So when you scope it out which network are you looking at?
@MRDIAGNOSTECH
@MRDIAGNOSTECH 2 месяца назад
Now days vehicles have multiple CAN networks A,B,C and so on. You would test the one you have communication issues with. If you can't communicate with several modules, refer to the BUS network diagram and see which one you would test.

all we are doing is seeing voltage. why cant we just use DMM? it get a voltage reading. if we short Hi or Lo to ground you will get the voltage change. im just trying to understand why we really need Oscilloscope?
@themikeanic1535
@themikeanic1535 2 года назад
Communication lines switch at such a fast rate that a dmm can’t interpret what is actually happening, it will just give you an average voltage….. you need to SEE what the waveforms are actually doing in order to diagnose accurately
