If the compressor doesn't click while ac is on, it could also be low on refrigerant. If you fill it up the proper way and the clutch still doesn't engage (click) then the compressor is most likely bad.
Could also be the pressure switch as well. Could also be the electromagnet. (Unless you check the resistance and it measures between 3-5 ohms. Could be a short in the line like the guy said above and it could also be low on refrigerant. Surprised dude in the video didn’t mention any of these, especially when the pressure switch and being low on Freon is the problem A LOT of the time.
It's either a bad clutch or the compressor is out of freon.. compressor clutches will not engage if they are below a certain amount of freon in the system to protect the unit from completely destroying it due to lack of freon
That is not testing the compressor.. that is testing the CLUTCH of the compressor. The compressor does more things and it could fail in other ways too. The clutch is the first thing to take a look at, but you could easily hear if the clutch is working as it will make a distinctive sound when you press the AC button. What you need to do next is show us how to diagnose a compressor... you guessed it... NOT compressing.
Im not gonna lie. I was getting a bit nervous with it on the battery like that. When i was young I basicly welded a adjustable wrench to a battery. Got it off with a hammer. Scared the shit out me. Ive also had one blow in my face before so i like to keep batteries safe lol
Thank you Luis! I will soon be trying to accomplish this task at home. I am a handyman (literally by trade) so I am hopeful that I can pull it off with RU-vid’s help haha 😂
You don’t change the whole compressor you just change the clutch, but first you check the refrigerant sometimes the clutch doesn’t engage because is low of Freon.
I’m 99.9 percent sure that compressor works perfectly fine, why spend 300 dollars on a new compressor when all you have to do is spend about 50 bucks or even less and change out the compressor clutch coil on your existing compressor. It’s just held on by a bolt usually 10mm the clutch drive plate slides out , careful no to lose the shims that come out they’re thin pieces of metal that look like washers , then you’ll see a snap ring holding the pulley in place take the snap ring off then if you’re lucky the pulley should slide out by hand if not you’ll need a 2 or 3 jaw extractor to get it off don’t try using a hammer cause you’ll damage the bearing. Once you got the pulley off you’ll expose the magnetic clutch coil again it’s just held in place with a snap ring get it off and the coil will come right out.
DUH if the clutch is bad you only need to replace the clutch, not the whole compressor! I got quoted $400 from NAPA for a whole new A/C compressor for my Nissan Versa, then realized the clutch was replaceable for $40 from Amazon! It came as a kit with a new electromagnet too, but the old electromagnet was fine so I left it in place behind the A/C pulley.
Good Day Sir, every time I expose the car in the Sun for longer period of time, and decide to drive. The aircon cause a strange sound and not releasing the cold. What's the cause of that problem?
From what you typed. It sounds like the clutch is stuck and is engaged no matter what. I obviously can’t see your car, so going based off this the clutch may be bad on the compressor unit. Some shops replaced the clutch part or the entire ac compressor depending on the make and model. As another internet stranger who does not know you personally I would recommend going to a different shop to get another quote or inspection. A lot of times shops will half ass the inspections or won’t do all of the tests to root out the exact issue. So if you feel as if their findings don’t sit well. Listen to your gut and move on to another shop.
Thank you young man. I'm impressed with your knowledge and especially the tutorial you presented as if you are Mr. Professor. Thanks again. Great job! 👏
Best way to test the clutch (magnet) is by checking the resistance. Connect a multimeter to the ground and hot wire. The resistance should be around 3-5 ohms. It can work high or lower than that, but if it does, it’s on its last leg.
When the clutch gets burned up does the system get contaminated ? I want to know the likelihood of needing to replace other parts like condenser , dessicant bag . drier ? I've got a 15 Ford Fusion 2.5 L Looks bad the clutch material is coming out the front pulley
Is there any way to check if it has any fluid without the machine? Trying to save some money by changing it out myself and just taking it to a mechanic to fill it up afterwards
My Jeep makes a clicking noise all the time whether the car is on or off. The ac goes on and off every 30 secs or so while driving, do you think that’s a bad ac compressor?
Is rhe clutch in parallel with the two holes? I found out if you put 2 fingers on the holes and spin the pulley, it should suction your fingers while spinning thr pulley..im thinking its parallel with the pumping..im new at working on my vehicle..
Hi. I have a Nissan Xterra that the compressor kicks on when I push the AC button.. but stays on.. doesn’t cycle on and off.. and all while blowing warm air. Any ideas? Thanks!
My compressor was blowing the fuses twice in a month and then now I hear a noise when I turn on the ac...I think it might be the ac compressor...which the mechanic shop replaced last year
Hello my name is Alice an I have a 2007 Chevy Impala and I have a question, so my car is making a noise someone said it's the compressor but he barley even looked at the car so how does one know it's the compressor? Can u tell just by the sound it's making? An would it still be making that noise if you only needed Freon or to recharge the a/c (my A/C isn't pushing cold air) thank you in advance for any info u can give me regarding this situation 🙃
I had this problem on my 05 g35 and my ac compressor clutch stopped working after the next couple of weeks. Check if your RPM’s jump up and down on idle if they do you most likely will need to replace the air compressor or the ac compressor clutch
@@VQ.Jnthn2300 my 06 g35 has been doing this for like a month now but it’s finally getting bad. i’ll be at a stop light and my rpms would jump up and down but i could never figure out the problem but i think you saved me now cause my air is cold that’s why i never really thought it was the compresser but the clutch make sense as well
I have a 1999 Toyota RAV4 and we currently diagnosed that our Air Compressor is making a loud phone-ringing type sound. So far, every time we turn on the car and after a few minutes, the sound begins and would turn off after awhile. I decided to turn on the AC while it'd making sound and it stopped making the sound.
The bearing of the pullley is destroyed. That will heat up to a point it will melt the rubber cover of the bearing, also, the plastic protection of the magnetic coil will melt and could cause short circuit. Try replacing the magnetic clutch pulley bearing asap
My a/c started blowing hot then cool, not cold anymore. Took it to the dealership they said it’s my compressor, AGAIN, I just got it changed at the dealership 2 years ago like what the heck could be wrong? 🤦🏾♀️ Suddenly it started blowing cold again right by then back cool. Anybody think it’s actually my compressor or could it be something else? 👀
My ac blows super cold but it stops working when it wants to then cuts on when it wants too. Ac Air is always cold. All fuses are good, just changed blower actuator. Still nothing. 2016 dodge charger
I have a 2007 RAV4 and my ac just quit coming on. My son said it made a noise ( no idea ) and the next day nothing. It’s like turning on a stereo that’s not connected to anything, not even a power source. I replaced the resistor and nope. The blower motor is good so I’m at a loss
Did you look to see if the belt broke? Sometimes they use a different belt and they'll freeze up and break just that belt. There's also a switch that signals whether or not there's enough pressure in the AC system lines. Maybe a rock or something hit a line or the condenser and the noise was the refrigerant leaking out. If you want to test that you can either buy some self add refrigerant with a gauge and it will tell you the ammout of pressure in the system. You just want to stay in the green. Or you can unplug the sensor and bridge the wires and if it kicks on you know your switch I bad.
I had this chick message me the other day and my first response was what do u want? From then on she been texting me good mor ing everyday but i just dgaf honestly. Thats how women are they want a man who doesnt care, do not reply back super quick, keep conversation short and just get straight to the point. If she likes u she will respext that ur straight up and dont beat around the bush. Ive had about 10 different altercations this year with different women and each one text me good morning because they all know i have options, as a man thats 5'5 I carry myself as im 6ft and these bishes could care less about your size when u know the game and dont operate from a mindset of lack, they can sense it. My advice is to work on urzelf Kings and you will have all the women when you life is full of abundance.
I discovered today that my garage simply left the connector unplugged after maintenance (scammers or noobs). Saved a lot of money🤑 thanks to your video!
Hello, I wanted to ask you if you could help me with my car. I have a 2013 Ford Edge that has a dual system that blows hot on drivers side a cool on passenger side
