Does the ignition key need to be turned on to check all fuses?

Only when you check a fuse with a test light and both sides won't light up. It means there is no power running through the fuse which requires you to turn ignition to the seconds position, then test again that fuse.

Are all fuses supposed to light up with a test light? Some new fuses in my box wont light up but they do if i pit them in a different slot. Can some slots be bad or is it norman for some fuse slots to not have power that lights up the test light?

Would a continuity test with a multimeter lead in each port work to check if the metal internals of a fuse are blown?

The fuses that do not light up unless the key is on. Is that safe or should you remove the fuse.

I want to check indoor fuses and where should I hook the clip ? There's a bare metal piece on the bottom near the pedals I guess that's a good place ?

How do you test the higher amp fuses (20, 30 and 40 amp fuses that surrounded that 15 amp fuse you first put the circuit tester on?They are the square flush mounted fuses. Also do they just pull out?

The correct way is to test with a multimeter as it can test the switched fuses as well

I tested my alternator fuse and one side is lighting up, and the other side is not, I then replaced it with another fuse and it’s still doing the same, does this mean my alternator itself is bad? I was having issues with my car dying on me , I replaced the battery and so far so good but my D light is flickering on the dash. I have a 1999 Honda Civic. If anybody could help, I will I greatly appreciate it.

Question 1994 Cadillac no lights check the bulbs but I've been hearing other people talking about fuses could be bad or relays can you advise on what I need to check, and could blown fuse drain the battery also

Hi, good morning. I hope you are fine. Can you help me with 2 electrical troubles of Cadillac DeVille 1998? -The instruments cluster doesn't work, just bulbs like brake, batterie, oil, but all display is dark; I'm almost sure that the problem is the cluster (I had check fuses and they are good) abd I have seen some videos and they tell that is the cluster; and the other problem is hazard lights, I can't find the flasher. Suppose it'll be on left side of cluster but I can't find it... Do you know where is it? Thank you very much and Hi since Mexico. God bless you....

In the video it’s stated that if only one side lights up then the fuse is bad and needs to be replaced with a new one.

Same way just put the metal to metal from your fuse tester should let you know. All fuses from small to bigger ATC have the holes. The worst if you still having issues can be inside your vehicle under your steering wheel those are a pain in the a## . 🤔

Hay guys I'm in deep shit 6 shops can't figer out what's wrong I gotta a 02 Honda Civic LX the car start right away but check engine blinks when rpms trying to find battery light goes on the. It drops to 0 rpms light battery goes on an check engine light stays on the hot an cold drops down to zero also one shop sad I can't communicate whit computer other 4 shops say they can I buy parts from u guys to put everything new still same issue any idea b for I burn my car down lol

??? Why not use a continuity test on the fuses instead. Then you don't have to worry about if a fuse is 'powered'. What about the square fuses? Take this video down, finish it, then repost- useless.

Why? I'm trying to figure out how to work one of these things and you've got me hooking it up to the battery?? The fuse box is INSIDE the car!! How am I going to get the clamp on the battery? I'm a woman. Please stop with what a fuse is and just tell me how to work the damn fuse checker!! THIS IS Why CARS SUCK BECAUSE MEN MAKE THINGS!
