how to test RCD with multifunction tester 1662 | RCD tester | how to use multi function tester RCD
Purpose of test:
To check either our system is safe or not in case of abnormal situation?
Also checking the time of trip of RCD is it operate in safe zone or not?
RCD Type : 30mA,100mA,300mA..
200ms is standard time for triping Testing RCDs on X1 means on residual current
Where an RCD is provided for Additional Protection it must have a tripping current (IΔn) of 30mA or less and trip at 5 x IΔn in 40ms or less. Therefore, for a 30mA RCD a test current of 150mA needs to be applied to ensure the 40ms disconnection time is achieved.
Demonstration of this testing is an RCD, different test settings, expected results.
Tester used is a Fluke 1662. Other test equipment may have different ways to select the various test options, but the actual tests will be the same.
Earth-fault current : current flowing to earth due to an insulation fault.
Earth-leakage current : current flowing from the live parts to earth or extraneous conductive parts in the absence of an insulation fault.
