Can you do a video on what is needed to be legal while kayaking in Florida such as needed lights , and will kayaking with or without a trolling motor have an effect on what is required? I'm coming from out of state and I'm having touble finding clearly defined rules and regulations. Thanks
Hey Ben! Here's a quick cheat sheet for what's required in Florida: You are required to have a USCG approved all around white light visible when kayaking at night or in low visibility. If attaching any type of motor to the kayak, you will have to have the kayak registered and the registration numbers visible on the side of the kayak. This is the only extra requirement if using a trolling motor. You are also required to have a USCG approved life jacket with you at all times and a whistle (sound producing device) whether you are powered by a motor or not.
Hey Tony, thanks for the video! Great information. I do have one question though. I have a problem with the kayak getting pulled over to the cast net after I throw it on bait. This ends up not allowing the net to close properly. Also I don't like anchoring because of the reason you stated before by having the anchor line jerk tight and potentially sending you overboard. Thanks.🙂
Thanks for your question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community where the coaches spend their time. The blog can be found here: www.saltstrong.com/fishing-tip/how-to-throw-a-cast-net-from-kayak/
Paul C yes I made that holster out of 1 1/4 inch thin wall pvc. Cut the pipe up and heated it to shape and attached it to an old belt. I mainly use it as a holster for my paddle. It has many uses!
carlostheanimal75 thanks for the feedback! I would recommend at least a 4 footer to catch bait, but it wouldn't hurt to practice with a 3 footer if you have one available
