my dad told me one sign for my pitches, a changeup. Otherwise just fastballs. I was 9 years old and never got the changeup sign the entire season. He gives it to me once and the guy bombs it 215 dead center for a homer lmao.
Lol that's funny. Part of the reason we don't teach the little ones different pitches, is understanding when to use it. It can be hard enough for them to learn proper mechanics and locating their fastball. Once you get that, then you have to learn to use off speed to take a hitter off balance.... and not putting it right down the middle.
Really wish I had better coaches growing (zero shade to them, I quit baseball before it would have mattered) but I always had a cannon and played 3rd as a kid bc no one else could throw from 3rd to 1st, then left field bc no one could throw over a cut man and actually make a play at 2nd/3rd or home, then catcher bc I could throw the hardest/most accurate to second on a steal. I pitched occasionally but had no control, looking back I throw a “palm ball” that was really a changeup 95% of the time bc no one ever explained the seams or how they work to throw pitches, I always thought to throw a curve u had to turn over your arm like crazy, same with a cutter/splitter etc. don’t know I would’ve stayed with the sport through college like I did football, but shoot I would’ve played longer bc that would have been SO much fun to actually learn.
Hi my son just started pitching/baseball. I posted some of his video. Can you tell us what more we need to improve. Thank you very much. This is his channel. ru-vid.com/show-UCDxaBDHxMRTRXoxv1SJfS4g
The key to a change up (or most any pitch) is the pronating of the wrist as you release. Ball must come off of the ring finger and create sideways spin so that it Can dive to your throwing arms side as it reaches the plate.
That’s the key. I like to feel it come off the pinky side of my ring finger/hand/palm. It also feels like my knuckles face the catchers mitt, similar but to how they do on a curve ball but also opposite, lol. I don’t know if that stuff exactly happens but that’s what it feels like. Pronating at the right time is key to getting that extra RPM’s to create movement.
Been fooling around with a different type of changeup. I hold it just like it were a knuckleball, but at release, I flick the fingers that are behind the ball. Done right, this causes a lot of front spin which causes the ball to dive. Changing the way it's held on the seams can cause it to break sideways as well.
I wasn’t the biggest kid during my mid and late teenage years, 5’9”, 175, topped out around 84, but I threw my change up exactly the same way but focused more on the pinky as the brakes. Threw it straight over the top, same release point as my four seam. No pronation, and as you said, your middle fingers sort of stabilizes the ball as you get more comfortable with it. What made it unhittable was the fact that my arm speed along with the spin and action was the same as my four seam, but 8-10 mph slower. There’s really no way to teach a batter to hit a change up, by the way. As a righty, I surprisingly got my most swings and misses vs. right handed hitters. Maybe because I could more easily locate it, who knows. I actually emulated Ryan Madson’s grip and release point as far back as 2004, when he showed the way he gripped the pitch on a Sunday Night Baseball broadcast with Joe Morgan. And by the way, that story all your coaches tell you about throwing curveballs?….they’re all true. Lol. 33 years old and my arm is wrecked. Hahaha
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10) Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
I know its random here, forgive me, but please read with an open mind, you’ll be glad The gospel, the good news is salvation from hell. And here’s how to get it, the Bible makes it as clear as can be. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved”, acts 16:31. Words from your mouth don’t even need to be accompanied, just “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” from hell, it’s this easy!! If you don’t believe it’s this easy, read Matthew 11:30 KJV and see for yourself

And drag your foot instead of pushing off. Keep the same arm speed. This combined with shoving the ball deeper into your palm will take off about 13 mph from your fastball.
Usually your just trynna throw with your ring finger since it's the weakest which kills velo and makes the ball dive away from a lefty or in to a right, adding it deeper to your hand just gives velo but adds zero movement in my opinion.
Wouldn’t this be considered a circle change? My pitching coach doesn’t like me throwing a circle change he just tells me to stick to a regular good change up
This wont work with everyone. For some it surely will but for those who dont, try to explore other change up grips and practice only on those that works well for you. You still need amazing control and a killer fastball for change ups to work well.
What if you thew the ball like a 2 seam fast ball, but with your middle and ring finger, instead of your index and middle finger. How much different would it be?
I have a better grip than this one that I am playing with. It's called the Shane McClanahans changeup. It is the best changeup I've ever thrown and I'm 12. I has one that ran inside at least 7 inches
Let me question something do you know where you will go after you die? If not let me say you can have a choice to either go to hell or heaven see 2000 years ago there was this man named Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and rose alive 3 days later all because he truly loved us he died for us so I question you now do you truly believe in Jesus or do you live for the world turn to Jesus Christ trust in him Christ has way much more to give than the world he loves us turn to Christ
Back in the day I just held my 2 seam fastball grip loser with a looser grip and with the same motion let it slip out ,it was awesome, nothing better than a great chang up
God bless everyone in here never give up because god Is on your side have a blessed day god Is coming soon repent because god Is good all the Time never give up god bless everyone
Master your 4 Seam Fastball 1st. Ride that pitch till the majors. The later you begin throwing breaking balls, the longer your Tommy John tendon will cooperate. Advice given to me from Pedro Martinez in the DR winter ball.
