I'm still cutting my own hair since the original Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020. I found your channel last year and I am still subscribed to sharpen my haircutting skills. Thank you. Greetings from sunny and very hot Southern California!

I have been cutting my own hair since the covid malarky; but have gotten my wife to cut the back/neck area, with mixed results! I will show her this to try and keep her from buggering up the neck hair line, which she is sometimes apt to do( like yesterday)!

WOW! Your videos have given me the courage to cut my own hair. I cut my hair for the first time 2 weeks ago because of your technique! You make it look so easy and you explain everything so well... I went down to a #3 because I was scared and I basically quit while I was ahead. It looked waaaay better than what I had before so I stopped at #3. This week ill try to go down to a #2... but your videos have helped me A LOT! I had my wife cut the back part on the neckline since its still hard for me to reach and maneuver, but this vid will help me im sure. Thank you so much for the help!

Top tip when cutting own hair Stand with your back against a large hallway/bathroom mirror and use the handheld to position yourself looking through it. Never cut in the small mirror

Another great video by you ! I have avoided trying this on myself the entire lockdown. As it is the straight line in back has been challenging for me at times but I finally figured out how to do it with a combination of trimmer and scissors. My hand often blocks my view no matter how I turn my mirror . Learning how to do a self taper would be GOLD. At the moment I have moved onto " Horseshoe/Faux Hawk territory. I saw a picture a guy in his 50's rocking a great looking Faux and it inspired me....as your videos always do. Thanks once again.
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber 2 года назад
I hear you. It's really difficult trying to see what you are doing with a hand in the way. But a taper is a nice addition to finish of your cut. Also the faux hawk is such a versatile cut to style. It's worth going to the supermarket and getting a handful of random products to test out as you can do a lot with it.
@kissme4492
@kissme4492 2 года назад
Are tapers normally regulated to a # 0,1/2,1,2 attachments only or can you do something similar using a 1,2.3 or a 2,3,4 following the same steps in your video ? If you do 123 or higher can you substitute the lowest attachment (Ie. #1) as a 0 IE. the #1 now becomes the #0 guard in your demonstration ? Thanks
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber 2 года назад
Yeah Chris. A taper is a gradual shortening. But there is no rule that says it has to eventually result in a zero. The shortest point of the taper can be longer than a zero. I would even taper as long as a #2 for instance a #5 reducing to a #2

@@theoneminutebarber No problem, it's funny how there are countless beard neckline videos but only a handful on the back of the neck. Out of sight out of mind I guess. We have found some recent success on Amazon in Canada selling one or two a day, need to crack the beast that is the US market. Lots of great comments from people which is nice. You obviously don't need it but I would be happy to send one your way to try out. Just let me know.

I've been giving myself a #3 all over for many years now and each time I try something different I end up bald lol. My old wahl has given up the ghost (just in time for Christmas) so getting some new clippers with lever and a trimmer. I watched all your videos now and feel ready to jump in, well start off by getting a nice neckline before attacking the sides. Thanks for the informative videos and I'll let you know if they work for me!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again these videos are top quality! I’ve been cutting my own hair for a year now and use your videos is a reference. I have a 1 , into a 1 1/2, and into a 2 on the back and sides which I have eventually mastered. However I just can’t seem to get a smooth neck line from the 1. I’ve tried using a 1/2 and no guard but just can’t do it.
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber 2 года назад
I would literally just touch the line at the bottom with the half. Don't run into it. It will soften the line. Also use a very small scooping motion, so touch the line so the blade has something to cut and at that point you need to be rotating the clipper away from the hair. Without going into the work you did with the 1. That might help

Think i should invest in a cordless trimmer 🤔 my $19 corded one has served me well plus it was getting annoying feeling like im getting tangled all the time ive been cutting my own hair the last 7 years or so. Thanks to your videos im able to try more styles rather than just a number 2 all over lol. I got your look going on now long on top seems to be the fashion have had lots of great feedback ..cheers from Aus

if you tilt the blade up it will cut closer, but also you can pick away little bits of hair with the corners of the blade

Last try went completely wrong. I was going longer and higher and a straight deep line appeared on both sides. No idea how that is possible. Had to cut everything much shorter. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It is probably more easy to cut them off completely.
